Do not buy a Samsung Refrigerator!

We have one and I've had to take the insides apart and add a copper wire so the drain hole doesn't ice over. Water was running out the bottom of the refrigerator. My dad's did the same thing and I fixed his too. The Ice Maker is always screwing up and I have to pull the tray and break the ice off the side. The auger in the bottom is so big it sweeps the ice to one side where it freezes blocking the arm that tells it to make ice. Terrible refrigerator design and I will not trust the reviews anymore. They all said that Samsung was the best refrigerator. My old Whirlpool ran circles around this crap.

Unless where you live is different, the place you buy it is the most important factor as the locals will not work on box store purchased items and box store service is not good. The locals have found a way to curb box store purchases. The competing locals only work on what thy sell.

All appliance parts come from overseas now. Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, assemble in the US. All have ice maker issues and compressor issues, has to do with government regs changing on freon and having to rework compressors.

If you buy any French door for under $2500.00 it is usually a POS. Made with super cheap parts.

Applaince industry has not increased pricing with inflation, they made stuff cheaper to keep pricing down.

Whirlpool and Maytag are the easiest to get worked on in rural areas.

10 years in appliance industry is where this comes from.

Gonna be in the market for a new refrigerator, looks like Home Depot has a bunch of LG & Samsung ones on special for Labor Day. For those of you who have fooled with them, what are pluses or minuses? I know they both make a perfectly ok tv but that's all I know about em.

If you don't want to have to buy another one, and value quality, get a Miele dishwasher http://www.mieleusa.com

If you don't want to have to buy another washer and dryer, get Speed Queen top loader. Don't get the fancy front loading computerized things out there, that are just gimmicks to entice the tech savvy crowd, and the uninformed. Kind of like shampoo. Nobody sees or cares what kind of washing machine or dryer you use.

Affordable refrigerators - Get a Whirlpool. Whirlpool owns and manufactures Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Maytag, JennAir, Hotpoint, and Amana, among other brands.

If you can afford the up-front cost, and value the lower long-term cost of ownership, get a Sub-Zero

Speed queen as of 3 years ago is all digital which makes your point moot.

Maytag has a washer with a 5 year warranty that is bigger and cheaper than speed queen.

And Sub-Zero is horrible unless you live in a city the size of Jackson or larger. Can't get them serviced quickly and repairs are stupid expensive.

I bought a Samsung fridge w/ bottom freezer 4-5 Years ago. First one the ice froze solid first night. Best Buy swapped it out. Only complaint I have with the Second one is the water filter. Have to use pliers to spin it loose.

I had the same issue with my Samsung Fridge in 2013. Froze everything solid in the entire cooler half. Then, after buying new groceries, the next day everything spoiled while I was at work. Then after a part was replaced, about 2 weeks later everything was frozen solid, including a bottle of liquor in the freezer.

So after 3 grocery trips full of meat and etc....Samsung decided to refund my money because the part I needed was discontinued. I owned the fridge for 4 months. Also, it took Samsung literally 7 months to give me my money back.

Glad you made this thread. Once football season is over, or cancelled, I am starting our forever home. Was going to get Samsung appliances after shopping at a few stores down on the coast.

Apparently now Samsung and LG suck. What about Maytag? I have Kenmore and Whirlpool now and I hate every one of them. They aren't top of the line, but I've had issues with every appliance I have.

Our LG clothes washer had some tube at the bottom that you were supposed to drain every once in a while. I dont know why it was there or why it couldn't drain itself, but it literally smelled like death whenever we would do it.
I don't know if this is a "feature" of a front-load machine, because we converted back to top-load. But draining that tube of death was just awful, would stink up the whole house.

Never personally known anyone with either that felt it wasn't a piece of junk. Get the fewest electronic things possible for the lowest TCO.

I have had a Samsung fridge for several years now and it's fine. The biggest problem has been the door shelves have broken several time and are about $40/each to replace. I think I've replaced 4 shelves over the years and I currently have one that has a huge crack in the bottom so it will need replacing soon.

I can't speak for a lot of the problems since mine is a double door, freezer on bottom model with no in-door ice or water. We intentionally got one with no in-door water and ice because that's where a lot of problems come in no matter which brand you go with.

The two biggest PITAs with the freezer are that the frostless mode quits working right (melted ice cream and stuff) if you have too much stuff in it and if something gets stuck behind the freezer drawer you either have to have someone with long skinny arms grab whatever got stuck back there or remove the top drawer from the freezer to get access to the thing.

Anything with the word Samsung attached to it is made from cheap parts and will kill over quicker.

My daughter had a LG frig they paid around 3 grand for. Constant problems. The last repairman that LG sent out to do warranty work told my daughter and husband that it could not be fixed and LG needed to replace it with a new one. Well, LG stonewalled them for two months. Finally they agreed to settle with LG for a dollar amount that was lower than what they paid for it. I would highly suggest not buying a LG product of any kind.

For what it's worth, I hate my Whirpool. Not enough ice capacity. Ice/water dispenser area is constantly dripping water (so much so that it is starting to rust).

Not talking about the front controls, all washing machines have a control board (computer) in them since 2016. The government outlawed the old mechanical (timer) systems. Every company had to comply. The most common issue with all of them is the computer board going out.

Further, speed queen's are small, you can not wash queen size and larger in them.

They make a good product, but it is overpriced. Maytag makes a unit that is 4.7 cu ft with a 5 year warranty for around $700.00 on sale.

Almost every single appliance has a computer system in them now, and computer boards do not like heat or water.

Yes, the government thinks you use too much water and electricity! Send thank you letters to Harry and Nancy for pushing it through congress.

I have had a Kenmore Elite from Sears refrige for going in 22 years. Whirlpool use to make all the Kenmore Elite models. Also... If you want a upgrade from a Whirlpool... Buy a Kitchen Aid or up from from that.. buy a JennAir... All made in the USA... All very good products. If you purchase from Costco and use their Costco credit card... They give you an extra 2 years warranty. And if you buy a LG Oled and use the card.... U will get up to a 7 year warranty. Costco knows how to work a warranty... And their are having a Labor Day sale on a lot of refrigerators....

Good luck!

Bought my house 4 years ago and it needed all new appliances. Went with all KitchenAid stuff in the kitchen and a Maytag front load washer and dryer. No issues with any of them yet, knock wood. KitchenAid is Whirlpool’s slightly higher-end brand and I’ve been impressed. Ironically enough, I had some people over last night and somebody commented on the fact that you can barely hear the microwave when it’s running. Dishwasher is also super quiet.

We have the upper end KitchenAid dishwasher that's about 10 years old now. It's all stainless on the inside. It was quiet for the day, but if everything else in the room is off you can still hear it a little. Newer ones are virtually totally silent. On the plus side, it's been no trouble at all. We have a JennAir electric range, and it's been no trouble except had to replace a couple of the stovetop elements. The touchpad for the oven is way over-complicated.

Surprised I haven’t seen Frigidaire mentioned yet. I have a double oven, wall microwave and side by side fridge that are all Frigidaire and have had zero problems with any of them after 7 years. Not high end but not junk either. Would definitely recommend. My GE dishwasher on the other hand......good but we have to replace the damn soap door on it once a year.

Had a thousand dollar front load Samsung washer for 3 years and It croaked when the tub bearing and shaft broke. We bought the thing simply to save water. 17. That.

Talked to an appliance mechanic and he said Speed Queen. Top load commercial components with old style knobs for 800 bucks. Wife throws beach towels and king comforters at it regularly. As mentioned, Never buy Samsung, LG, and I’d suggest staying away from any brand front load washer.
