Why was the EB moved off Thanksgiving this year?

Without getting into the debate over whether we like it or not... what's up? Are the TV contracts all being torn up and re-written this year? Who decided to move it back to Saturday.. us or ESPN?

I think Contracts are gone because if there is covid out break games might have to be moved.

One of the major complaints about the Turkey Day Egg Bowl was people wanted to attend but not be able to spend Thanksgiving with their family. If fans can’t go that alleviates that problem. Could it have to do with keeping the players safe? I don’t see a scenario where Saturday makes more sense than Thursday. If an all day lineup of NFL games show up on Thanksgiving, we’ll have our answer.

never should have been on Thanksgiving. Years ago you got 1 or 2 NFL day games and 1 college game Thanksgiving night. That made sense for exposure. Now, there are 3 NFL games on Thanksgiving.

If we are going to play on Thanksgiving, we should be reaping all the exposure, not sharing it.

No idea why we can't play on Turkey day, other than maybe some interest in uniformity to assist with monitoring and containing infections?? Whatever the reason, I suspect it was the SEC's decision and not the schools or ESPN.

As for the broadcast contracts themselves, they are essentially void due to impossibility of performance or "force majeur", which is unforeseen circumstances that prevent fulfillment of a contract. The broadcasters are not in a position to demand any particular schedule for the games, and the SEC cannot be forced to provide any particular number of games. There probably are/were some serious discussions going on regarding payment. There are fewer games, but the individual games are far more valuable than they would be in a normal year.

The only thing better than the "piss and miss" last year, was the fact that it was all the sports world could talk about all day Friday. We would not have enjoyed the maximum embarrassment factor but for playing on Thursday.

Hope it never moves back to thanksgiving.

That makes a lot of sense if Ole Miss and State have a common graduation day but has Ole Miss made their announcement yet?

All of the traditional rivalry games were kept on Thanksgiving weekend. It was a conference-wide decision. I would prefer last game of the season, though.

I just wish the Egg Bowl game getting moved back to Saturday was in Starkville instead of Oxford.

Me too. At least this was the last year of the Thursday night contract. I hope Cohen and Carter both grow a set of balls and refuse to play on Thursday night again.
