It is a slope in that the argument is - 'well if this is dangerous and banned, then what about these other things that could be dangerous and also could be banned?'
I personally have a tough time seeing anything banned that only affects the individual. You want to mainline sugar and become diabetic? Dumb, but OK. That only affects the individual(we aren't going down the rabbit hole of Healthcare here).
If someone does something that affects others, its an issue. You want to get hammered off tequila and drive? Nope, not OK. That affects others outside the individual.
Apply that here- you want to spend hours around strangers then go to stores and unknowingly infect others? Nope, not OK. Wear a mask.
This isn't a restriction of movement, it isn't a violation of rights, its just an official no shoes no service law. That **** isn't sanitary and requiring masks is simply saying there is an expectation sanitary minimum that must be met since you are interacting with others.
Even if its for show and doesn't actually work, its an expectation to give a minimum amount of **** and try.

Big difference here.
There isn’t a no shirt, no shoes, no service law. That is a decision that individual businesses make for their store.
We’re discussing a law forcing individual businesses to have their patrons wear masks whether they want to or not.
I have no problem with private businesses requiring patrons to wear masks in their store if they decide to.
I do have a problem with the government forcing this on a private business.
So I guess you are in favor of government mandated flu shots ?
Bingo. There's a common quote used by libertarians that says something like "the right to extend my arm ends at where your nose begins". I found a good article by libertarian author Walter Williams that discusses the problems with seat-belt laws vs. laws requiring cars to have working breaks.
https://www.deseret.com/2005/6/15/1...ry-seat-belt-use-saves-lives-but-it-s-immoral
So when will we get to a point where no mask is needed? curve has been flattened, but the goalpost keep moving.
And that’s all good if you have the means to ensure everyone has access to proper equipment like we do with cars and seatbelts. With masks, we are going to have people who can’t find regulation masks wearing makeshift ******** that gets damp and catches a bunch of germs and does more harm than good to the person wearing it. If you can’t provide people with the correct equipment to use then you can’t reasonably enforce a law making them wear said equipment.
I see where you're coming from but there are plenty of examples of society doing the same thing a 1000 times a day. I'll use your car example. If your turn signal or brake lights went out you legally had to have those to drive, but it wasn't the govt.'s responsibility to provide those repairs to you. If you're coming home from the hospital with your new baby you legally have to have a carseat, but you were responsible for providing that yourself. The list goes on and on.
Don’t worry, the government will be sending them around soon. It’s for your safety. So every business needs a bouncer?
I'm going to Memphis Friday. what is the requirement exactly?Memphis announced the same thing today. Will probably be required throughout most of the country

Vote was 5-2. Starkville has 7 wards, each represented by 1 alderman. Mayor only gets a vote if one alderman abstains and there is a tie vote among the other 6. I have a good idea why so many of you are attacking the Mayor, though.
At this point, I'm starting to think of masks like motorcycle helmets. We shouldn't have to legislate wearing them. You'd think people would have the sense and be thoughtful enough of others to wear them. But after a walk around my neighborhood, I'm beginning to think otherwise. Plus, it not like masks only work one way. If worn correctly, they can be personally protective.
Not only that, but you also have 9 months to figure out the carseat situation, not 16 hours. All of that stuff is readily available for you to purchase. Masks are not right now. The ones that actually work don’t need to be consumed by the public because health care workers need them. The mayor is telling people to make their own. That’s BS.
I can assure you that she does not have a husband with a mask selling business...
