What's interesting with Maher is that while he is no doubt a democrat, he appears to be almost right-leaning on a decent amount of issues. It just goes to show how far left the "left" have become in making Bill Maher appear moderate.

Bill Maher hates political correctness because he's a comedian and political correctness is bad for business.

But you are right - I don't think anyone other than extreme leftist would consider him a moderate.

Like all the leftists that loved the Iraq war.... Imagine still being stuck in a fake "left-right, blue-red" paradigm. Sad!

I can respect the hell out of someone who sets their own moral compass and doesn't let anyone else dictate to them what they should think and feel, even if his viewpoint on the world is generally quite different than mine. IMO, this is how we get back to having honest conversations(not that I ever expect it to happen). I don't follow Maher closely, but I couldn't stand him under previous administrations. He had his worldview shattered by Trump and was a seemingly rare liberal that admitted that to himself and looked inward rather than outward. Has seemed infinitely more relatable in the time since then. But like someone else said, maybe that's just a perception because of just how crazy most of the rest have gotten.

Damn that was spot on! A little surprised its from him because I’ve always disliked that guy, and probably still will, but tells it like it is this time. Quit looking for ways to get offended, and get **** done!

And isn’t that a statue of Chairman Mao in his background?!

They're giving you permission to hate the Chinese, blame the Chinese etc to take your attention off of the incredible failings and ridiculous monetary schemes that have been going on this last month... Midwits will just eat this stuff up though

Well. This time he's wrong. In 2015. The WHO issued a new best practices on naming infectious diseases. Diseases should now be named after their symptoms and known pathogens, and not after any specific region. So the fact that diseases have been named after regions in the past is totally irrelevant.

I have nothing against blaming the Chinese wet markets for the eruption of the virus, or the Chinese government for making matters worse by covering up the severity of the disease. I hope everyone knows where this started, and I hope the wet markets are closed, or severely altered to minimize the chance of future outbreaks.

But the name of this virus is Covid-19. Trying to change its name to Chinese whatever is petty.

The Chinese deserve a lot of blame. Our citizens and media that take the side of the Chinese just because they oppose Trump are filth.

Downvotes away lol

If you haven’t seen a reason to think the Chinese government (can’t say “China” now because that would make people think you’re saying Chinese people in general nowadays) is our enemy and not to be trusted, you haven’t been paying attention for years.

It’s actually “SARS-CoV-2”. The actual disease is “Covid-19” if you want to be specific. Even news agencies were calling it “the Chinese virus” before the communist talking heads came out against it. Flame away.

Personally, I don't give a flying 17 what that inept and corrupt organization proclaimed in 2015. None of the rest of the world outside of Chinese government influence does either. WHO = League of Nations and Covid-19 killed it. We'll see what springs up in it's place after this is over.

First, no one is “directing” me to do anything. I’m a grown adult who can make up my own mind after being presented facts.
Second, if you think that one party is to blame for China producing so much of our goods, you’re more brainwashed than you claim I am. The Chinese are in bed with all of the powerful Washington longtimers and that’s NOT a good thing. But I bet you were one of the people who laughed at Palin and Romney for saying Russia was no friend of the US back in ‘08 and ‘12, but also screamed “Russian collusion!” in ‘16.

Yeah, no they aren't. We can systematically go through it if you'd like. Regulations and uneven trade policies drove our businesses overseas -- we can crosscheck the founding of these policies and who was in power when they were instituted.

The fixing of the trade policies and bringing our businesses home are the main reasons everything is going to be be R again in November.

Riiight. I just dreamed the fact that directly before this "Chinese virus" hit, America had more jobs available than people to fill them and an economy that was lapping the world. We had already brought home more jobs than we had people to fill the positions.

Who has said that? That is completely off the topic at hand but I’m sure 90% of the people here would agree with that sentiment.
I sincerely hope that you keep realizing that when Democrats control everything again instead of only thinking that when conservatives hold office.
This idea is also counter to being so protective of China.

I don’t trust either of them, but I’m forced to choose between the two and the red team is who at least portrays themselves to be smaller government and less big brother as well as trying to protect our interests better than Democrats who seem to want to monitor speech, open our borders, hand everything they can out, and refuse to believe in the greatness of America.
That’s not to say conservatives are perfect. They’re not, but that’s who I have to choose from unfortunately. I’d love for actual libertarian candidates to be elected like Cruz and Paul. Even then I don’t agree with both completely.

Maher is very, very liberal, but he has some very common sense approaches to certain social issues. He hates Trump, but arguably hates PC and cancel culture just as much. I used to hate watching him, but he’s grown on me in the last couple years. Yes, he’s arrogant and smarmy, but he’s highly intelligent and not afraid to buck his own party. Need more like him, IMO, even though I disagree with at least half of his views.

This is, hands down, the dumbest thing I've ever read in this forum in 15 years...and that is saying a lot. You, very literally, have no idea what you are talking about. What has happened in the US in the past month with The Fed, US Treasury, and stimulus packages are a masters class in economics. If you don't understand that then you don't need to be commenting on it.

Can you give us a masters class on the Fed? I’m specifically interested in knowing who owns it and where do they get the money they loan the US that we pay the interest on? I’m not be snarky. These are legitimate questions I have been unable to find the answers to.

Money printer go brrrrr for the elite. Here's a little check that may cover a couple week's groceries for you, John Q Public.

You think you live in a "free market" but it's anything but. The Federal Reserve system is a gigantic Rube Goldberg machine to hide the extraction of productivity by the elites. Your economy is every bit as "planned" as the USSR's. Watch next week when they throw another trillion or so to the energy sector.

Our system resembles late stage Soviet Union more and more each day. I think many are waking up to the complete lack of legitimacy the system has (can't protect citizens - 30 million illegals... Absurd levels of degeneracy and lack of culture..sham courts decide nationwide rulings against the will of the people... endless wars that nobody benefits from). Things are normal, until they aren't and more people understand that society is not normal.

During the Cold War, when the USSR was trying to undermine our government and destroy our way of life, would you have been on their side, too?

You haven't been paying attention the past two weeks. The Fed and The Treasury are now (more or less) one entity controlled by the president. Did you notice that happen a couple weeks back? The New Federal Reserve/ Treasury entity is now showing up to help support the foreign markets and maintaining liquidity for banks. Will this new entity be the central bank for the world? Watch closely... times are changing. Jay Powell seems to be playing a different kinda of chess on a number of different boards at the same time.

Now the Federal Reserve/ Treasury will now be purchasing “Fallen Angel” bonds. Fallen Angel bonds are top companies that fall from grace being once highly rated to junk rating. When this happens most pension funds can no longer purchase them based on their rules. So basically THE major bond purchasers in the country are no longer able to buy or hold these investments and the bond’s value continues to fall causing a loss of value in the overall bond market and increased interest rates. This typically means bad news for the market, until now.

For the last 100 years the Fed has only had basically 3 tools to help the economy. Most of the time they have been significantly late or chosen not take action in helping avoid a recession and typically work in conjunction with foreign central banks. Not now, typically they lower rates, buy or sell bonds and control lending limits as their only tools. Now they are doing everything possible to support all markets and the world. Specifically they are buying the equity markets, the real estate markets, the municipal bond markets, increasing the lending to banks, other countries when their central banks are not helping and now the junk bond markets. With them buying it raises the price or solidifies the market from further decline. It also greases the tracks for the economy to run effectively. This is an absolute master class in finance being wielded by the treasury/ fed in the hardest economy we have ever seen. If not there would be a run on the banks, meaning banks would not have cash. If you go to get money out it’s not there and this has come very close until they have developed new tactics. We never even thought these were possible. The federal reserve of the United States is leading the world in innovation and setting new standards for future market growth. They are in complete control. If we can get the virus under control expect the federal reserve/treasury moves to launch this market beyond expectations.

The Fed/Treasury are doing an amazing job! They added 2.3 Trillion to support the economy because they can’t wait for congress to supply more money! Look at the timing of this move with jobless claims at 6.6m. This is addition to the dissolution of OPEC means massive changes to the world economy. Additionally the World Bank is having billions called in due to Pandemic Bonds and the Coronavirus Pandemic (you can research that because this post hasn’t gotten waaaay too long).

So in conclusion The Fed/Treasury are one and controlled by the US government again, OPEC is basically dissolved, and the World Bank is getting billions of dollars’ worth of bands called in while The Fed is buying up millions in Fallen Angel bonds (buying up corporations). The Old Guard is crashing down hard and it is in large part due to moves by President Trump and his cabinet. For good or ill the US and world economy will be completely changed after this is all over and it is looking very much like the US will represent the new world central bank.

One note to add here that is interesting. With the government back in full control of The Fed the US could stop collecting federal taxes (literally do away with the IRS) and invest their money and run the country off of investment earnings. It's a wild thought but not impossible.

I agree, some of that would be awesome. MMT nationalism... except the elites don't want to help you. They despise you. They want to erase everything about you, your unique history and culture, your traditions, your sense of self.. all under a global umbrella of no borders, one world market, world strip mall of consumers buying the next gadget. Our powers that be aren't good people.
