“System is broken. Resembles soviet Russia. Terrible. Needs to be overturned and start over”

Signed: all the people who are pining for Soviet ideals.

What we’ve got is far from perfect. I agree. But it’s still the best system the world has ever seen. And this is where you give me some **** about the utopia of a couple of European nations that only exist because of us — and only continue to exist because of the threat — of us. Who spend all their money on healthcare because big brother will save them whenever some other tyrant decides they want them for lebensraum and decide to swallow them whole in a couple of days.

Well. This time he's wrong. In 2015. The WHO issued a new best practices on naming infectious diseases. Diseases should now be named after their symptoms and known pathogens, and not after any specific region. So the fact that diseases have been named after regions in the past is totally irrelevant.

I have nothing against blaming the Chinese wet markets for the eruption of the virus, or the Chinese government for making matters worse by covering up the severity of the disease. I hope everyone knows where this started, and I hope the wet markets are closed, or severely altered to minimize the chance of future outbreaks.

But the name of this virus is Covid-19. Trying to change its name to Chinese whatever is petty.

Would you repeat WHO issued that.

Maher irritates the **** out of me sometimes but he is the perfect example of the difference between a Liberal and a Leftist.

I agree, some of that would be awesome. MMT nationalism... except the elites don't want to help you. They despise you. They want to erase everything about you, your unique history and culture, your traditions, your sense of self.. all under a global umbrella of no borders, one world market, world strip mall of consumers buying the next gadget. Our powers that be aren't good people.

Next level, tin-foil hat, conspiracy theories my dude.

And as you can see over the past few days many of those countries have removed their EU flags. Why? No aid ever came from their union during this. Lol. Who would have thought?!?!

First, no one is “directing” me to do anything. I’m a grown adult who can make up my own mind after being presented facts.
Second, if you think that one party is to blame for China producing so much of our goods, you’re more brainwashed than you claim I am. The Chinese are in bed with all of the powerful Washington longtimers and that’s NOT a good thing. But I bet you were one of the people who laughed at Palin and Romney for saying Russia was no friend of the US back in ‘08 and ‘12, but also screamed “Russian collusion!” in ‘16.

Dead on. I was listening to soy boy coworkers at Apple complaining about the rich Republicans and their oil and gas buddies ruining the environment, global warming, etc... I told them that if they really believed that oil and gas only padded the pockets of Repubs they need to take a closer look at their favorite liberal Democrats "contributions."

I knew years ago while watching Bill Maher argue with Bill Frist about vaccines that this was not someone who always knows what they are talking about. I take his opinions with a grain of salt and fully realize that he is an arrogant ******* and that he thinks that he is the smartest man alive. Having said that, he is funny. His delivery is always so blunt and sometimes he cracks me up. If you are easily offended then his comedy is not for you.

Hell yeah our govt is doing such an amazing job that 10 million people have lost their jobs in the last two weeks and not a single one of them has received a dollar of the $2 trillion stimulus package yet.

You said it’s good repeatedly

But why is it good? You said the Fed is working to prop up the economies of other countries. They do that through our tax dollars. Every dollar the Fed “gives away” is our tax dollars. Who does that help? It’s not the poor, it’s not the middle class. Also, please tell me who owns the Fed and where the money comes from that they loan out? Also, please tell me where the tax dollars we pay them as interest on these loans goes.

I like the video game example

Except our govt is just sitting there adding zero’s to the bank accounts of certain players as fast as possible. I don’t agree with some of his stuff such as it’s ok for the govt to just print money to pay their bills as long as they keep it under control. They don’t keep it under control. Not only do we spend like drunken sailors at home, our govt spends like drunken sailors on a global scale. We constantly “bailout” other countries (which is code word for put lots of money into their political leaders’ pockets, it only hurts the average citizen). This money dump devalues our own dollar, inflation. This inflation hurts everyone, but it erodes the middle class and keeps the poor poor. Also, he refers the the Fed as a central bank, and that is basically what it is, but in disguise. One reason we didn’t have a central bank when we started this country is because of the power wielded by the central bank in England. That’s about where we are now.

He just understands the farther left Democrat's get snd the crazier they get on pc and just irrational they get the more unelectable they become. I watched something a couple years ago him explaining to Democrats that the reason they lost 2016 was because it went too far and if they wanted to win 2020 they had to come back from being so far left and so far irrational.

That’s just not true. I personally know that some SBA paycheck loans have been funded. And thousands more will be funded this week.

Thousands? 10 million people lost their jobs in two weeks. That's a whole lot of thousands and gonna take a whole lot of weeks if only thousands are getting money each week. Should be fine though cause Trump just fired the guy in charge of making sure he doesn't just give all his billionaire buddies and himself the $2 trillion.

I guess I should clarify. I know because it’s the bank I work for. And if my bank is funding other banks are funding too.

Sorry it’s not fast enough for you, but the fact that a small bank in MS is poised to fund thousands of small business payroll for 2 months less than 2 weeks after the government issued guidance is pretty impressive. And most other banks are funding now too. Quit being a dick. Millions of small business owners across the US will receive these funds this week.

Banks had to build a process for this from scratch. I know people that I work with that today is their first day off in 2 weeks just to get this funded. The SBA is only staffed to handle about 60k loans per year. In a period of 8 days, the SBA has approved millions of loans.

It’s been a pretty impressive process so far. And if it were done under Obama, you’d be impressed. Just take off the blue glasses and recognize the nearly non-stop work that has gone in this process.

From my understanding the banks given the task of given these small business loans out have pretty wide discretion. Some are only giving them to their current customers. NGO's getting in on the action big time. Basically the well connected have a leg up, again. Looting we the people blind.

That's a key point. Regardless of how this whole thing turns out, Trump will be taken to task. Obama would have been criticized (especially by Fox) but it wouldn't (or never was) with the vitriol that's used against Trump.

Well, Trump spent years talking about links between vaccines and autism while running for President. Then, after becoming president, he disbanded the pandemic response team in 2018. Then he spent weeks calling the virus the new liberal hoax. His first public statement on the issue was “we have it totally under control”. Then, it went to “we have 15 cases and expect it to be 0 very soon”. Then, after it was apparent all of our lives were going to be severely disrupted for months, he got in front of a camera and told the entire country he was stopping all travel and cargo from Europe. He apparently just completely misspoke, or didn’t think to clear that with any other members of his cabinet, because then multiple agencies had to release statements basically saying “we have no idea what the president is talking about”.

So, yeah. I could definitely see how that continuous string of misteps would not play well in the media with 20,000 already dead and that number likely to at least double. Especially in a re-election year.

Not saying he handled everything perfectly, I’m sure knowing more now he would probably do things differently from the beginning, but that can be said of every leader in probably every situation. A lot of people were saying 1,000,000 deaths in the US was a possibility. Now it may be less than 50k. Either everyone was way wrong and way over reacted, or Trump saved almost a million lives. Which is it?

What's interesting with Maher is that while he is no doubt a democrat, he appears to be almost right-leaning on a decent amount of issues. It just goes to show how far left the "left" have become in making Bill Maher appear moderate.

He wanted a recession just so that it would look bad on trump.

Well, he's getting his wish. We (the economy) are 17ed, and won't recover for awhile.

I think the number is stilll going to be north of 50k. We went from 10,000 to 20,0000 in 5 days. Other than that I agree with you.

Not sure why this was downvoted. That’s what he said. Unless they disagree with the slow recovery part.

Do you care if I call it "the Wuhan virus?"

If you do care, then why do you care?

In other words, why would you care what name a complete stranger assigns to this virus?

Surely you don't think it's your job to make sure everybody calls this virus the name that you prefer, right?
