What are your thoughts on the acting Secretary of The Navy relieving the Captain of the aircraft carrier of command? He had a 100 positive cases on his ship and I cannot think of any worse place to be trapped than a carrier (maybe a sub) of 5,000 sailors with Covid19 breaking out.. living quarters on a carrier make a cruise ship room look like the Superdome.

I would assume, but can't prove that he leaked the letter after running the problem up the chain of command and getting stonewalled as nobody knew what to do. As good as our military can be during wartime, it can be equally inept during peacetime.

sure is a shame......however, he should never have gone to the press with it.....especially since his boss the admiral was on the ship with him.
reminds me of being on submarine tender with commanding officer and the commodore of squadron also on board.......just my opinion.....

Not a Navy guy but it was absolutely the thing to do. You absolutely cannot leak something like that no matter your intentions. This was an advertisement to every hostile country in the world that this carrier isn’t at full readiness.

consequences of this is known ahead of time. This isn’t a fly by night situation. He knew... or bing captain SHOULD have know the outcome of it.

No one knows who leaked it to the press.

Modly and Adm. Michael Gilday, the chief of naval operations, told reporters Wednesday that they agreed with Crozier’s assessment of the situation and his decision to send the letter up the Navy’s chain of command. They also indicated the captain would not face punishment unless it was determined that he had leaked the letter to the media.
However, Modly said Thursday that he is not suggesting Crozier leaked the letter to the newspaper.
“I don't think I'll ever know who leaked the information,” he said.
But because Crozier emailed the letter to as many as 30 people, including some outside of his chain of command, he did not protect the information detailed inside or make certain it was not leaked.

Yes he knew the consequences and acted anyway. I commend him but I don’t hate the navy’s decision.

He is a military guy. He should understand the potential that advertising compromised capabilities has for negative impact on national security. Never mistake what is "right" in the normal civilian world for what is "right" in the military. Those things don't often line up.

He did the right thing for his sailors. I hope I would have the guts to do the same. Good for him, and to hell with the asshats who left his sailors swinging in the breeze.

Yes it all fine until some dumb *** officer gets his men killed because does not follow protocol. Especially if one of the men is your son. He just let every one in the world know, the chinese, the Russians, every country who hates america know that we have a capital war ship with sick men on it. Lose lips sink ships and I hope they buried his ***.

It had to be done. You can't have a high ranking officer, or anyone, leaking stuff that affects the operational status of your command to the press. Even if he didn't actually give it to the press, he enabled it to happen.

You don't think Russia, China, and every country who hates american didn't already know this? They were off the coast of Guam and had sent people ashore already. All someone had to do was ask one of the sailors.

You don't make it that far in the Navy and not know what's was about to happen.
But he made the decision to best protect his crew. Would not have happened without the leak. I'm sure he knew that too.
They make movies and write books about **** like this.
A profile in courage.

I wonder how many times his pleas fell on deaf ears before he finally went scorched earth and said.. Ok. I'll sacrifice my career to show you I mean business.

If this was the first move to get the sailors off the boat, he should be facing charges. If it was a desperate attempt to save his crew, somebody else should. I have a feeling a paper pusher is to blame.

If someone up the chain of command was not responding or told him and the crew to tough it out, it should be their *** on the line. An order to keep that crew on that boat would be unlawful in my book. If that is the case he showed leadership and courage befitting an officer of the highest caliber.

In wartime you put the mission first... This is not wartime. Taking care of that crew will make this guy a legend and when it does come wartime, not a sailor under his command will ever question a decision or order from him.

He won't have another command, nor should he.

He should have gone through the proper chain of command and not have had such a wide distribution list. A Navy captain (same as a bird colonel in other services) should know better. The same letter, through his boss and to the proper authorities would have been fine.

i am a Navy vet. The captain had a chain of command. He didn’t follow it. From a military prospective it was was more of a profile in stupidity. You don’t have people commanding aircraft carriers who don’t follow the chain of command.
