To explain one very basic thing ...there's no such thing as a Corona Virus. Coronavirus (one word) is a taxonomic classification of viruses that includes SARS, MERS, and other milder forms in humans. SARS-CoV-2 is the official scientific name for the strain causing the current outbreak and the disease is known as COVID-19.

Second thing ...our numbers are wrong thanks to an inept CDC that set far too narrow testing limits for weeks and when they finally decided to expand the criteria for testing, they 17d up the tests.

The danger of the virus isn't just to old people or people with health problems. It's a danger to anyone who will need advanced healthcare in the coming months.

Italy's numbers demonstrate the burden hospitals are facing: Among the 5,061 active cases, 3,218 (55%) are hospitalized, 567 of which (representing 11% of active cases) are in intensive care. It would really suck to be in a car accident or have a heart attack in northern Italy right now.

We have 'just enough' hospital beds on a day to day basis and a lot of people are going to need ventilators, not just hospital beds. So I'd imagine a pretty good chunk of that money is for quarantine centers and temporary hospitals unless someone comes up with an effective treatment very soon.

It’s correct but it’s misleading as 17.

You either A. know that and have an agenda or B. don’t know that and are stupid.

Ah, the lazy logic argument that the other person is either one thing or stupid.
Strong work.***

No I dont have an agenda. What the 17 agenda could I have? It's a discussion I didnt start and I have participated in like 3% of the posts so far.

And no I'm not stupid as I simy cited a released statistic and agreed that what is known for that sample size is probably smaller than the real number.
Using the information available isnt misleading- it's what is known at the time. That should be obvious, but it doesnt hurt to specify which is why I agreed when it was specified.

Gwt off my nuts and go after all the others who have posted similar info. Maybe your lazy *** argument can work on one of them.

This slide was interesting. I’m finding this whole thing enthralling/interesting. I’ve come to peace with the fact that I’ll most likely get this and survive it, but maybe I won’t. I’ve also started to think there’s no amount of of effing hand sanitizer I could ever buy, that will protect me from all the times I touch my face. But what I still cannot comprehend is why water is selling out at COSTCO.

Im going fishing tomorrow so I’m at PEACE.

Look at it this way. There is a virus out there, right now that has never been recorded in our history. With a very long latency period. Reported as being very contagious from every bodily fluid. 61k people have died of the flu, but something like 80 million people had it in the US. Now the percentage mortality rate is reported as 3.4% with Covid19. That number is not telling the whole story. That is only 3.4% of the people we know have it or had it. There could be upwards of 100k people in the US that have the virus. We just don't know because we are not testing at the level we should, and with the long latency period, the first guy in Washington was walking around town for 23 days spreading it prior to him knowing he was sick. In the past 23 days I may have been in close contact with 100 to 300 people, not to mention all the surfaces I have touched after sneezing or whatever.

China went full on crazy *** mode for a couple reasons. First they tried to deny it was happening to save their economy. Second, once it started becoming public, it was borderline run away train due to the density their people live. Third, the leadership of China really 17ed up their SARS response. This time they have tried to do everything they can to stop it, but only after they spent weeks trying to hide it to save their markets.

In the US, we are spending money to get this solved. The money is going to go to researchers, companies, our own universities such as Duke etc, to drop what they are doing to focus on this acute issue. The 8 billion is really not jack **** compared to the value of our overall manufacturing and financial systems. Hell 80 billion really isn't even getting close to the overall value to our work and way of life. The dow dropping 3k is small when compared to what it will be if major corporations have to shut it down and are disrupted.

So to sum it up, the corona covid19, isn't like the Ebola virus as far as scary if it spread. The 3.4% is ********, but do not discount it as this not being a serious thing because flu kills more people. The flu has like 80 million more cases this year than covid19. Put it this way, if Covid was as widespread as the flu, 700k (equal to Jackson and the gulf coast) would die in the US every flu season. Covid19 is deadly. Don't confuse what the numbers are saying.

One could also argue, that the only people tested are of a level that they are really sick, kind of like going to the doctor to get tested for the flu. Your not going to go until you fell bad enough.

Even with that, flu is .1% and this is 3.4%. But since we don't know, good thing we are spending money and resources to you.....try to figure it out and develop a vacine to not protect 25 years, but everyone else that have other health complications. Herd immunity is the key to all things.

Anyone panicking about coronavirus needs to read this article.
https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-myths-debunked-wuhan-china-2020-2?amp
That’s an article written for morons obviously.

I’m only panicking if I’m over 70 and have any health issues. If you’re in that category, I wouldn’t panic, but I’d be very ******* concerned. If you aren’t concerned, then you are in denial.

There is a weird balance with these diseases. The fact that CV-19 can be mild in many people is part of the reason that it’s spread is apparently so prolific. If you get Avian flu, you’re sick as hell, you know it, you probably aren’t moving around at all, and you are more than likely going to die. I think there have only been like 400 deaths from Avian flu. And it’s 60% fatal.

CV-19 seems to be mild for most people, so those infected are still mobile, and thus continue to spread it. This seems to be pretty inconsequential for most of us, but for those that might be immunocompromised, it’s pretty serious.

there’s no “cure”. There will be a vaccine in a year or so, and hopefully some drugs to deal with symptoms prior to that.

A Dr. In CA studying the disease gave those numbers on NPR. Sorry for not saying it that way.

So are you admitting the 3.4% is misleading or are you being stupid?

17 you.

Below is what I typed in the 13th post of the thread. You can continue to ignore it, misunderstand it, or whatever you are doing right now. I'm out on the discussion with you as it doesnt seem honest or productive.

mstateglfr said:
True- statistics are only for those who are confirmed with the virus.
There are un-registered people who arent counted due to not having been checked for the virus when they had it. There are also people who died and it wasnt registered as due to the virus.
Then there is the issue of China actually reporting truthfully, which hasnt been a strong point of theirs in the past.
