I don't think social media created the phenomenon. It just gave a place for idiots to be heard. I think most guys only have to deal with a few morons that can't help but tell you their opinion about whatever. Maybe a person or maybe two you're stuck listening to because of work, one or two b/c of family relations, maybe one that is in your social circle but you can't figure out who keeps inviting them (or maybe they get invited because their wife is friends with the other wives), etc, and mostly you don't have to deal with them that much. On social media, all of those people are very vocal and you can't really screen them out of things like a message board.

I don't think anything has changed for women as they will seemingly remain "friends" with people they hate for their entire life.
