what Mullen’s record would be in 2018 and 2019, assuming he had not left for Florida?

2018 - 10-2, with losses to Bama and probably LSU....

2019 - 8-4, maybe even 9-3. Auburn, LSU, and Bama would been losses for sure. I could have seen Mullen will all the others.

Moorhead is not failing, but he is underachieving for sure.

So Mullen would have done what he never did with Dak.

He has the exact same record as Mullen did in his first 25 games and he also has the exact same record as Mullen did in his last 25 games. Is Mullen a failure?? It's actually kinda a damn miracle that Moorhead is keeping pace with Mullen despite having 10,000 internet trolls all over his *** trying to make him leave and make things as difficult as possible for him to succeed here.

I’ve been a very heavy critic of his but I don’t think he’s failing, yet anyway. The things I don’t like about Moorhead is not the win/loss record. I think that is ok. I fear he has let the toughness that Jackie and Dan had escape the program. We don’t seem to as physical and tough as we have been in the past. I personally feel that is very important to state having a successful team. I think most years we won’t be as talented as Alabama or LSU but we can out physical them.

I hope Moorhead can find that blue collar tough mentality here but I just don’t think that is him. With all that said, I do agree he is not failing. I just don’t like the trajectory of the program. I just hate to wait till the program bottoms out to make a change.

We ran two different spread schemes in 15 and 16.Thomas I know that's shocking for you to hear of a State coach adjusting his scheme to what's on the roster, but that's what a good coach does.

And I know this is shocking for you 34, but you are wrong. Alot. Mullen still, by the bar set by some in this thread, inherited a team that went 9-4 and he totally wrecked it by having a losing record the next year. All things are static 34

Nope. When a poster states that a coach inherited a team that was 9-4 as if all things football are static, then that rule applies to everybody at all points in time. Mullen inherited a 9-4 team in 2016. What did he do with it?

How is running a program with a downward trajectory not failing ?

Because he just has not failed yet. Failed in my mind would be a losing record. Now I do ultimately thing he will fail but I wouldn’t consider 2 seasons of making a bowl game failing. To me, the downward trajectory is just a negative outlook, in my opinion. It would be enough for me to make a change if I were Cohen but I have a hard time calling his 2 seasons a failure.

Mullen never even came close to being fired. The majority of the fanbase used to hope we could hold on to Mullen every offseason. This offseason, the majority of the fanbase hopes Moorhead does move on.

Wrong. That's your small niche in the world.

Mullen didn't leave Moorhead the #1 defense he left him the 24th ranked defense. They weren't #1 till Shoop and Moorhead were the coaches for a full year. Don't use posters actual names online unless they volunteer it first or give you permission Carbaryl. It's about the least cool thing you can do.
You got a good point here.

So why wasn't this year's defense better? Moorhead and Shoop took Mullen's trash last year and coached it up, but they couldn't do it this year?

God you are so extreme. Where did the guy say it was TRASH? Stop making **** up that people say and then try use it against them LOL. He didn't say that. Any 24th ranked defense is very good. Not Trash.

You know why the defense was down this year, but you and the few have an axe to grind so you ignore reality and then call them excuses when pointed out. Mullen did not manage the roster over his last 2 years. I have no idea, nor speculate as to why. But he didn't. If he had not, we would not have been left with that many players graduating off that defense. We would have been able to red shirt Pickering. Crumdey and Lovett would have been in a back up role. Then yes... you throw in suspensions that cost you 3 starters....

LOL!!! Moorhead has been here for 2 years. AND NO he did not have the best defense in college both years.... because MULLEN LEFT ******* HOLES OFFENSES WERE DRIVING A TRUCK THROUGH!

HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!
Did I say both years, or did I say Mullen's first 2 didn't include the best defense. I suppose I could have gone out of my way for those looking for a reason to ***** to add, "the best in the first year followed by a lot of returning starts and a defense not nearly as talented as the first, but not as devoid as our performance suggests".

Included within the 2 years, for half the sample size was one of the most dominating defenses in college football history. That better for you?

On 2nd thought, don't bother answering, or do and I'll try to ignore. I'm not at all interested in any lengthy dialogue with you. It's a terrible waste of time.

For me, it is not his record as much as it is his attitude. It is totally unacceptable and he needs to pack up his stuff and get out of MY school, not HIS school. He has not earned that right and I am disgusted by his attitude that he thinks that it is his school.

What's idiotic is y'all not realizing while you're making this argument about how Croom left the program for Mullen compared to Mullen for Joe is that Mullen himself got to stack his own program however he liked it for 9 straight years and even then his record in the last 25 games wasn't any better than Moorhead in his first 25 games. Y'all haven't even given Joe a full two seasons to stack his program before wanting him run out of town and his record is exactly the same as the last guy some of y'all desperately wish was still here.

I get so dang tired of reading how a coach has to 'get his players in'. When mullen took over from Croom he didn't have to wait to 'stack his team' He took croom's crumbs that he won 4 games with and won 5 the first season and 9 the next. When Houston Nutt took over from the Ogre he took over a 3 win team that had talent and won the cotton bowl with them the next year. Mullen took over florida's 4 win team and won 10 games in year 1 including spanking Joe's butt at home with three first round draft picks on D. It's called coaching. Something Joe failed at miserably in year 1 and 2.

It's not so much his attitude for me or even his wins and losses. Its how the team comport's itself. Anybody who cannot see that under Joe's system the the team took a huge step back in many areas is just plain blind. We are soft, unorganized, sloppy, unprepared, undiciplined, and our offense has been just terrible despite one of the best running backs we have ever had. The kicker is we have consistently looked our worst AFTER an open date with more time to prepare. How the hell does that happen?

Are you seriously suggesting that Saban is the same as Moorhead, because he had the exact same issues this year. His talent helped over come alot of that, but throughout the season those same issues happened. Defense was "soft". False starts all over the place. Delay of game... ALL of it.

Maybe it's just what it actually is. A lack of experience showing up. Guys not in the right spot on some plays. etc.

Last year, as we all know, they had awesome NFL players and ran a great scheme combining for the best defense in college football. You also know full well why the defense struggled this year. No experience at DT, freshmen and RS freshmen playing all over the field, the stupid suspensions, injuries.....why stir **** when you already know the answer ?

We didn't run the same scheme in 16 that we did in 15,again anyone with a football brain bigger than a pea could see that, confirmed by Mullen's own mouth.Wrecked it?Hell son, that team was the main reason we won 9 and 8 games the next two years. If we didn't have a dud of a head coach last year we would have won more than 8.

Then you'll be impressed that Moorhead tied Mullen in wins here in his first 25 games and also Mullen's last 25 games. Exactly the same. 50 game sample. Moorhead is exactly tied with Mullen both examples.

State had lost no more than 4 games in three of those years. In the 8 years before Mullen took over, State had lost at least EIGHT games in 7 of those years. One took over an incredible rebuilding job, the other took over a stable job with a strong foundation.

Agree with you but since Mullen was here for 9 years and built the program into being stable his record his last 25 games shouldn't be exactly the same as Moorhead's is but it is. At the very least our fanbase shouldn't be wanting to fire a guy that has the same amount of wins as the last guy did. Remember that Moorhead's record is exactly the same as Mullen in Mullen's year 8&9 as well as being exactly the same as Mullen's record in Mullen's year 1&2.

Than I am a fire Moorhead guy. I believe he should be given a third year. I do believe though we are in a precarious position to lose a lot of momentum the program had built up if we turn in another less than stellar season. I am rooting for us in every game but I just have a bad feeling about things.

Isn't that state law though? I'm not sure, but I thought it was... Meaning we have no choice but to extend. We will do that every year.

Than 4 years. Not sure if that is for football coaches or all state employees. That is why these coaches keep getting extended every year because a University can’t offer a 6 year contract, so they keep it at 4. But it is not required. Many argue, and probably rightfully so, that if we don’t keep a coach extended to the maximum allowed (4 years), then in essence rivals will tell recruits he is a lame duck. I just think that’s something that is overblown. Coaches get fired with many years left all of the time. All it does by extending a coach that doesn’t deserve it, in my opinion, is just keep the buyout high.
