So is it 8 players or 9/10? Also, I don't see any suspensions listed in the articles. My understanding is that the suspensions are at the discretion of the university.

The university and the enforcement staff used ranges identified by the Division I membership-approved infractions penalty guidelines to agree upon Level I-mitigated penalties for the university. The enforcement staff also used the guidelines to identify a penalty for the former tutor. Those penalties, approved by the Committee on Infractions, are detailed below:

  • A fine of $5,000, plus 1% each of the football and men’s basketball budgets.
  • A reduction of two football scholarships during each of the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
  • A reduction of one men’s basketball scholarship during the 2020-21 academic year.
  • A reduction of four football official visits from the program’s four-year average of 40 visits during the 2019-20 academic year.
  • A reduction of two men’s basketball official visits from the program’s four-year average of 10 visits during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 rolling two-year period.
  • A prohibition of football unofficial visits during one home contest for the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
  • A prohibition of men’s basketball unofficial visits during two home contests for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.
  • A reduction of football evaluation days by two in the fall 2019 and 10 in spring 2020.
  • A reduction of men’s basketball recruiting-person days by six in the spring of 2020.
  • Three years of probation.
  • A vacation of records in which student-athletes competed while ineligible. The university must provide a written report containing the contests impacted to the NCAA media coordination and statistics staff within 45 days of the public decision release.
  • A disassociation of the former tutor.
  • All involved student-athletes must conduct one rules education session on the consequences of academic misconduct.
  • Participation in the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals program review and Academic Integrity Assessment process.
  • A 10-year show-cause order for the former tutor. During that period, any NCAA member school employing her must restrict her from any athletically related duties unless it shows cause why the restrictions should not apply.

Where does this say we have players required to sit?

Autry only being able to play 4 games is a KILLER blow to the DT position. The others hurt here and there, most especially Gay, but we've got ZERO experience at DT outside of Autry.

Seriously who's our academic advisor? And hopefully they are no longer employed. A bunch of football players in a Chemistry class is a recipe for this nonsense. **** why didn't we just let them take Pre-Law while we were at it?

This was my first thought as well. Chemistry? Even intro chemistry for a freshman football player is absurd.

Yikes, so it's confirmed that they have to sit out games?

Not confirmed those were the names given to me. If those are in fact the names I consider that a win. You play them

What is the athletic budget for football and basketball? Seems the 1% would be six figure money. That's significant.

I am furious. I have no sympathy for the players involved, they are lucky they didn't get kicked out of school, and if this team struggles this year then they can look in the mirror and blame themselves for it. I'm fine with how the university handled it, this is bad but it could've been a lot worse.

I'm surprised they were not expelled. MSU preaches student ethics a lot to incoming FR.

couple of things...one, we did a good job keeping this quiet which minimized damage. often the cloud is more severe than the rain and that is the case here, it appears. two, our academic advisers should be vetted far better than it appears they were...people should be fired today over this for multiple reasons. while this sucks for sure, it could have been far worse...i just hope this is the extent of the shenanigans. im tired of all the stupid cheating we do, if we are going to cheat, learn from others mistakes and dont get caught. we are the amateurs of the SEC cheating world. this is just dumb all around. we get nabbed for the dumbest ****....like discounts on pants and online classes.

And unfortunately one of those starters is our only experienced DT. Would have been a lot better had we kept him playing and lost one OL.

Could have been worse. Incredibly stupid on our part. Whoever oversees the tutors should be fired. You just can’t let this happen.

University absolutely shares blame in this. Where is the OVERSIGHT? How could a tutor do this for so many students for so long and it not be known? Do we not have any academic oversight folks in the department to monitor situations like this. Online classes are ridiculous anyway. This kind of situation could never have happened in a traditional classroom. I guess a tutor could do some homework for you but they absolutely could not be taking tests for you. But if you are going to offer online classes to students, and particularly student athletes, then it HAS to be closely monitored.

Nah, we didn't get any easier penalties than we likely would have gotten if we hadn't cooperated. Mizzou got way worse because they were on probation. What we got was disproportionate to the actual offense. The "*** whipping" would have been the cloud over our recruiting because of potential sanctions, not the actual sanctions.

Now, the players might have gotten off a little easier than if we hadn't cooperated. Might would have lost their entire season instead of 70%. But for the most part, the NCAA is continuing their consistent inconsistency with the application of punishments.

So wrong. We got what we asked for and what we should have gotten. We had players cheat and play ineligible. We should have had better oversight to catch it earlier. We didnt and we offered to pay for what we knew we failed to do. The NCAA accepted OUR penalties. Will it hurt us? Probably. Will the NCAA see us as policing ourselves rather than having to come spend the money and take yet another black eye in the media? You better believe it.

You can choose to look at this however you please. But our Compliance did their job well.

I'm pretty surprised the pro ole miss media hasn't been talking about all this for months. Agree, a real good job of keeping things quiet.

3 years probation is not someting to sneeze at.....Got to stay squeaky clean.

Thanks, Mullenz and Cohensz!

I'm sure this **** was in place before Moorehead got here. You have to have better oversight for these things.

Chemistry? Why in the 17 weren't they in Botany or something less intense for a science course.

Oh, and SUCK A DICK NCAA!! Three years is ridiculous after the hand slap you gave Ole Miss. I guess you were still pissed about Leo Lewis.

Are we sure on the "choose which games" thing? Has that ever happened before? Just not sure I've heard of that with college players & NCAA matters. But I'll admit to not having a very good memory on this kind of stuff...

Pretty hard to police a part time student on Work Study making $8 an hour getting $20 to take an online Bonehead Chemistry test for a Football player....

Responsible adults in the athletic and academic counseling departments would have provided oversight. This is embarrassing. This is incompetency on display, big time. Some MF'ers deserve to be fired immediately.

I'll assume you are joking (what with the asterisks and all) and add my complete agreement. If this is the outcome, then it's done, it's over, and we don't have to kill our football recruiting with all the speculation surrounding a potential/occurring NCAA investigation.

This is what responsible adults do when faced with issues - they take responsibility and punishment, then move on.

Dont be a Pollyanna. Students with heavy workloads cheat because there is little reward for not cheating. They are thrown money to come to school barely getting qualified, treated like kings, required to perform on the field and in the classroom nearly year round, and then get offered a shortcut if they will pay for it by a former athlete. It's little surprise that it happens. And you are correct, we should have better oversight over their attendance and performance at school as well.

What we did by turning ourselves in is an effective deterrent. But we have to do more.

Yes it’s been confirmed they get to choose which games they sit out. That’s big.

I've heard 8 of the 10 names (which I'm not repeating), but it seems to be more than 2 starters and redshirt freshmen. Only 3 of the 8 names I've heard are players that I didn't expect to play.

agreed. i'm hoping that those above the student worker tutor the adult or surpervisor was reprimanded. students are going to try to find the easiest path. some don't care if they cheat or not as long as they get the grade. it's the job of athletic academic staff to not let them.

If this is indeed the crew, a few are a really big deal, a couple more are notable, and then about half of those have very little effect on this season. DT could be a total mess. Otherwise we have to hope like heck that we stay healthy this year.

Chem 1 is used for a weed-out course at State usually. Everyone takes it, because when I took it there were ~300 in the class.

Presumably all 8 players won't be suspended for the same games. Perhaps all 8 for the non-conference games, then judicially chosen for the conference games (e.g., no one suspended for the Alabama game).

Heard it was 8 players.

Eight of the nine players participated last season and we declared ineligible thus any wins they played in will be vacated. The NCAA penalties do not involve suspensions, so this must be a university imposed penalty. Has anybody heard if the players have been reinstated after being declared ineligible?

Does this mean we have to vacate our long coveted Outback Bowl participation trophy?

If so, the boycott is so totally back on for realz***
