Since there has been plenty of football season ticket talk the last few months, let’s talk about MBK. I noticed that renewals for men’s basketball season tickets have been sent out. Re-upping ours again this year and may even add a pair if we can get them together. Do you guys think ticket sales will be up this year? Also, RESEATING takes place this year. Discuss...

Reseating? They moving the students back?

Mississippi State Men's Basketball the past 2 years hasn't gotten the fan support it really deserves. As someone who's been to numerous empty seated games, it's sad to watch.

I think back to Kentucky this past season and how pathetic the crowd was and how if State had a full arena like usual, they beat Kentucky because it came down to the wire. As much as fans gripe about Men's Basketball, they are equally responsible for the supposed "letdown" of making our first NCAA Tournament in 10 years.

If you've followed Reggie Perry, heard the news about Nick Weatherspoon, and are excited about the progress of Tyson Carter and Robert Woodard, there is no reason not to be excited for the season and I hope more fans see this.....

Agreed 100%. The team really deserved more fan support then they had for sure. I will always remember last years MSU team because they got us back to the big dance, and man it felt good. Yes, they weren’t perfect, and sometimes they were frustrating. That shouldn’t have warranted the fanbase giving up on them after the OM game, but it sure did seem that way. Seemed like people just made up excuses like “they are lazy” and “the product on the floor is ugly” and that wasn’t really true. Very disappointed in the fanbase and especially the student fanbase who have to lead way better.

That Kentucky game was depressing to watch. Kentucky is always a huge draw. Even in the Rick Ray years the Kentucky games seemed way more packed then last Season. I don’t know what the hell the deal was last season, but it’s a bigger problem then I thought. It seemed like once the product on the floor got better the people would come. I still hasn’t happed tho. Hopefully it will be back this year.

The problem is that the "reseating" goes by Bulldog club rank and you have to be in the top 3000 to get a chance to sit in the lower bowl.... I'd say the average age of the people around me in the lower bowl is 75. I have asked dozens of people that sit around me to , if they can't or don't want to attend, put the ticket on the secondary market so that if someone wants to attend, they can buy their seat .the most common response is they don't know how to do it.

I know a lot of you say the "free" ticket exchange is the way to go..I'm sorry but I have been let down so many times by people who I transferred tickets to who didn't show up...but if I made the tickets available on stubhub, they sold and in every instance the tickets were used because someone had to pay something....so until the older Bulldog Club members learn how to make their unused basketball and baseball tickets available, there will continue to have premium seats empty game after game. My solution would be to penalize those season ticket holders who's tickets aren't used...perhaps a $10 penalty for each ticket not used...the penalty has to be paid before they can renew the next year...

Crazy. While I would certainly like the Hump to be full this is absurd. Penalizing like this would kill ticket sales. If there is a penalty make it affect the Bulldog Club ranking. If your ticket is unused in 10% or more games your BC ranking will be affected. In basketball, that's like two games missed. Emergencies happen. In football, 1 game missed (I know this is more than 10%).

So, if I can't use the ticket I purchased, you want to "penalize" me $20 for each game I can't attend ?

That should go over well.

I do transfer men's and women's games tickets basketball, but I did not think I could transfer baseball games.

Yes, I believe you can get season tickets in the new GA areas for $150 a season.

is BDC rank literally "top 3000 donors" or is it a point system where there could be 10,000 donors in the top 3000 points? no, I don't live close enough to bother with BDC donations, my money goes to 3 educational scholarships right now.

I know a lot of you say the "free" ticket exchange is the way to go..I'm sorry but I have been let down so many times by people who I transferred tickets to who didn't show up...but if I made the tickets available on stubhub, they sold and in every instance the tickets were used because someone had to pay something....so until the older Bulldog Club members learn how to make their unused basketball and baseball tickets available, there will continue to have premium seats empty game after game. since this raises its head all the time without regard to sport... seems there are supporters of the program that buy season tickets with little use but for a few games in each sport. why not give these donors/supporters something different than season tickets which they are not using (or selling or giving for use).

as for the seating in the hump.... ha. lets dump ALL season tickets completely for a season - whenever they decided they'll be fixing it. let each game be general admission. sit where you want, first come first served. then reseat as it falls.

I don’t disagree, but one thing I can say with 100% certainty is that the Bulldog Club is absolutely tracking any tickets sold to another individual through Stubhub and such. What they plan to do with this data or ticket scans, I have no idea, but they have been reviewing the data for several years

Completely agree. Men’s basketball needs a giant shot in the arm in the worst way, and I feel like our athletic administration completely missed the mark with its Hump upgrade plans.

I don’t have any issue with adding club seats and boxes, but that was something that should have been done 20 years ago, and the Hump renovation should have been equally focused on the average Joe. I feel like we basically nailed it with the DWS master plan and of course the new Dude, but I’ll say again that we’ve let the Hump absolutely die on a vine. Virtually zero effort has been put into it in 25+ years, and having a good team certainly helps, but it’s a reap what you sow situation for me at the moment

So, you're going to penalize fans for not using a ticket they paid their own good money for and have the right to do whatever they want to with? That's a worse idea than even Larry Templeton could come up with.

Watching the actions on this board are hilarious. People ***** when tickets aren't purchased, they ***** when they are purchased and go unused. They ***** when fans sit there and don't cheer, they ***** when they do stand up and cheer but block their view. They ***** about lack of attendance but also ***** about the long concession lines and having to wait to get out of the parking lot. They ***** about Bulldog Club donations per seat fees and ticket prices, but also ***** about wanting facility improvements i.e. rows too long in Davis Wade, more elevators, rest room improvements.

Carry on, as you were............

I've been trying to do math on what it would take to get in the lower bowl, but the folks at the Bryan building are shady. They won't tell me how far up you have to be to have a shot at seat selection down there. Anyone else have any good guesses?

Another question for the Bulldog Club experts....so if this year is a reseating year - which will be done by Bulldog Club rank, could I or anyone infer that this is the year you would need to give more to increase your rank (and theoretically have a better seating time), then back off that giving in the subsequent 2-3 years since there won't be reseating taking place? Basically a lock-in situation? I find this stuff interesting. Sometimes I wish I was sitting in on the seminars or events given to the athletic departments that explain to them how they can best squeeze the turnip!

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted tbh.

Sports now are competing with people’s TV/couch, and people are increasingly deciding it’s not worth the money/trouble anymore (there’s lots of posts about it on SPS).

The best way to reengage the average Joe fans is to lower ticket prices, lower concession prices, and try to make it more fun than sitting at home on the couch. Giving the most rambunctious fans the best seats in the house not only makes the atmosphere more fun in the building, but more fun looking on TV.

Pretty much all sports are currently choosing short term money / premium options instead of catering to their future long term fan. And the less opportunity young fans (especially in our age of limitless entertainment options) have to experience event, the less likely they are to stay engaged and spend money on sports as they get older.

I get that it’s a big money business, but it seems there’s a balance between making premium money fans and less-rich future fans happy. Just gotta find it.

Auburn's atmosphere changed because Bruce Pearl had the fans buy in. Ole Miss' atmosphere changed because Kermit had the fans buy in. I can go down the list of different coaches who did that and it's the same result. They didn't change because of where they were sitting. Va Tech's students sit in the same place as ours and Buzz had them bought in. They would've sat on the roof if he told them it made a difference. This is the only gripe I have with Howland, cause I think he's a great coach and a great recruiter. He just doesn't know how to engage with students and the common fans in general and it's because he's never had to. When he was at Pitt, it was a big game every night they played, and you don't have to worry about those things at UCLA. I think Howland is great with your big money people, but where he lacks is with the every day fan and students and that's never been his thing either. He's from Southern California, it's just different. It's the main reason why people gravitate towards the women's program, it's not the players because they come and go. It's Schaefer and the way he's able to relate to our fan base. Coaching in the South is just different and every coach across any sport has figured it out. Whether it was Mullen, Calipari, Jimmy V, Stansbury, Dabo, Bertman, Saban, Cohen, Polk, and you could go on and on in any sport. They were able to figure it out and tap into that. It's the old adage I go back to that I heard Dan say after we beat A&M in '14. "It's not win first and the fans show up, fans show up and start believing in the program and the wins happen." Coaching in the South is as much about relationships as it is about Wins and Losses. That's what Ben has to figure out and that's what he has to tap into. When he does that, the atmosphere will be back.

They don't come to the games.

Not sure I would have gone to games as a student 93-96 if we had to sit behind the basket. Those folding chairs on the plywood risers on the sidelines were awesome.

If this is accurate, its pathetic. Its pathetic that a region of the country would need to be glad handed and coddled in order to support a quality basketball team at the university the fans are...fans of.

A buddy of mine is in the 600's and he doesn't get lower bowl. He sits mid court upper level. I'm not sure if that's by choice and he doesn't want to sit behind the goal or all lower bowl tickets gone. I think he gets 4-5 season tickets.

Probably hard to say exactly where you need to be ranked to get lower level. I'm sure there are people with high enough rank who gave up season tickets 7-8 years ago, that may have been waiting for a reseating to buy again --- or others who were just waiting for us to have a good season to buy back in.

Here are points & ranks per the BDC page, as of February. So just say you were ranked 3000 today. According to the calculator you could donate $6500 and jump to 2000 --- assuming the people ahead of you don't make large donations too. Or go ahead and throw in $250,000 and jump to the top 100 - shouldn't have to worry about getting in the lower level then.

1 - 56,536
100 - 3920
500 - 1067
1000 - 605
2000 - 248
3000 - 128
4000 - 74

That has to be his choice. Or maybe even just because of the number of seats he wants together?

I'm not in the 600's and I had four in the lower bowl last year on row 7 offset of the goal in the corner.

ETA: I expect that the buy in of people ahead of me in the past will be greater again due to making the tourney and the ability to jump back in with the reseating, so I expect my tickets to get worse.

Top 3000 won't sniff you a seat in the lower bowl. Try top 500 at best.

Absolutely agree. We should give the students the best seats on the side as the benches. At least the first 8-10 rows with additional student areas upper deck. Almost exactly like Rick Rowdys days, but on the bench side of the court. I want to see the fans on tV. Not old *** blue hairs.
