I grew up in Florida and I remember my first semester at State watching some of the wackiest commercials I have ever seen in my life...that Wasson’s commercial, Pap’s place one with the lady that reminded me of the Grandma from Beverly Hillbillies, and Denvil Crowe....and who could forget Les Cash and Peso Little? I’ve lived in 3 other cities since I graduated and I’ve never seen anything like those...minus the Juan Lafonta commercials in New Orleans. Are these types of ads still on tv in Starkville?

Paps Place commercial is one of the best

You can find the paps place commercials on YouTube

One of the great values of the internet is the ability to archive legendary commercials such as this

Crazy crinkled up face (I recall a car salesman): "...I wouldn't lie to you"

I’m sure the Pap’s Place one still runs. I haven’t seen Denvil Crowe in ages, but the Delois Price gag is still going strong.
Wasson’s closed long ago despite the catchy song.

My favorite local commercial of all time is for Red House Furniture. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vnOyMSEWNTs

I won't lie to you!!! Premier Ford, Bill Russell, still going strong, but now he has his dog in the commercials with him.

My folks moved to Batesville from the Delta several years ago. Said there is this crazy old couple on the morning show that can't sing worth a flip, I said that's Buddy and Kay!!!

I wouldn't buy a car there just BECAUSE of his commercials, or at "Call Arnold nooooooow"

I saw the Denvil Crowe commercial about 2 weeks ago. First time in many years. When it I heard it, instinctively started singing just like when I used to see it 100 times a day.

Imagine seeing that on tv then turning on your radio and immediately hear a guy singing "Black Prairie Tractors where Massy Ferguson abounds....". I really hope an ad agency isn't responsible for those two but, I bet they are.

“The I wouldn’t lie to you “ snippet is a different guy than is doing the commercials now. I’ve heard that the original guy passed away and they replaced him with the one now who looks like the original.

Just what I’ve heard when talking about these stupid commercials. Not from that area though, so I really don’t know.

Oh, Peso Little actually died a few years ago. He was replaced by "Big Mark Downs".

I’m shocked no one has mentioned that adult store in Columbus. Can’t remember the name of it. But when a lady that looks like a grandmother is spouting off about adult movies and sex toys, it really isn’t the effect I’m sure they’re shooting for.

Didn't the Wasson commercial just repeat "Wasson, Wasson, Wasson" over and over again really quickly? I think the imagery was snap zooms of their sign.

It is exciting! It's University Mall...It's in Columbus! It's University Mall!

The old University Mall jingle still pops in my head a lot. Although I may be wrong about that first line..."exciting" doesn't seem like the right word.

No way Buddy and Kay are still alive. They were on when I was State from 84-87. They were old then.

Last I remember it was, "GOOD FOOD GOOD FOOD GOOD FOOD GOOD FOOD LOTS OF FUN LOTS OF FUN LOTS OF FUN LOTS OF FUN AT WASSONS!" repeat twice. It was really bad.

I think we need a Delois Price appearance on a TGIF or HumpDay thread. I had a thing for her. She seemed naughty.

What gets me is the new commercials are him today yelling about how many trucks he has left at this low price, come see him today, etc... then at the end they cut to that original "I won't lie to you" clip from 20 years ago. I guess they just don't want to record him saying that again.

Is Ricks Furniture still in business? His commercials were wacky as well...

but nobody can beat the Pap's Place commercial. The Premier Ford "I wouldn't lie to you" clip is at least over 25 years old. It's funny to see how much he's aged.

I don't remember the tv commercial but the radio commercial was so bad that it made me intentionally not go there.

Where in Florida? Did you ever watch “The Family Man” from around Melbourne? I could watch that **** for hours. “It’s late at night, you’re in your robe, come on down and buy this probe”. Hahaha
