Matt really has been out of the loop and last to know on anything UK bball related. He is just throwing crap out there. No **** we are gonna contact these guys.
No one knows what's going on man. This whole thing is bizarre.

He’s more successful than you can imagine. And over 300,000 Twitter followers, so yes he is as big as ever. Sorry his politics hurt your feelings.
That guy could never hurt my feelings. He's far less successful than I've been, so I laugh at your post. You on the way to Arkansas yet to sit front row at the Presser and gush?

He can coach his *** off.
I really like Buzz, too. One aspect of his recent tenure at A&M is he loses several games that are head scratchers as to how can he lose these. You start to think he has a really good team and then they lay an egg. He did have a nice end of season semi-run. Maybe the resources awe have would get him over the top.

I’m preparing myself for two outcomes that I think are likely and telling myself it will be ok.

1. We won’t get a coach that’s exciting. I include Hurley, Donovan, Wright, Oats and Pearl in that group. Guys that have had success AND have the kind of personality that will excite the fan base.

2. The team won’t be very good next year. We shouldn’t be UL bad, but just over .500 is what I’m preparing myself for.

Those two outcomes are ok. We can still get a solid coach that can win championships here but maybe isn’t an exciting hire initially. We can also be down for a year while the new coach gets his feet under him and gets things rolling. I’m getting myself ready for those two realities and will be excited if we exceed either one.

Move to Rajon Rondo at that point. Kidding.

But I’m really not that worried about experience. Sheyer will win a title in the next five to seven years.
Don't be surprised if Shaka Smart or even Chris Beard shows up on the 2nd batch if the first three say no.

I'd have to also say we at least have someone on the search committee contacting the entire list of names, which likely includes everyone we've thrown about here - even Mark Few - just to gauge initial interest in at least a phone conversation about the opening.

If you only care about next year, then yeah he moves down the list some.
IMO, you have to look at the bigger more long term picture. No he's not a 20 year hire, but we've not had one of those in almost 90 years. But 10 years is a reasonable expectation.

Portal plus retain some of current and retain a few of our commitments will work.
This is exactly what i was going to post. We were going to suck next year anyway, so I'll take a down year all day if we get Billy D for 7+ years. I know we're hungry for wins, but we should be thinking long term here.

Billy D is my top choice. My only concern is that if we wait on him, and he turns us down (again), we'll be well behind the 8 ball and might end up with a tier 2 or 3 hire.

Based on Drew’s personality, what he values in life, and his previous comments about how coaching basketball isn’t a top priority for him I expect him to say no.

Agreed. If he stays at that private Christian school in Texas he can continue to do things with his team that he won’t be allowed to do at a public university.

And I hope he does say no.

No one knows what's going on man. This whole thing is bizarre.
It was just as bizarre during the Tubby-to-BCG and BCG-to-Cal transitions. The internet has made these situations much more dramatic than they really are because thousands of fans spew speculation, which turns into rumors, and then arguments, and on and on.

I mean we all turned into freaking stalkers for days during the Cal hiring period. Watching a door, making up stories about horse farms, tracking planes, staking out the UK basketball dorms and facilities, and who knows what else. There's just too much information on the web nowadays to do that again, although it's not for a lack of trying (see the plane tracking thread from Chicago...).

If we do have to go to the second tier of coaches. Chris Beard would not be a bad choice. He had Texas rolling a couple years ago before all that crap came down on him. He would be my choice if the first tier guys are not there for the taking.

I really think Mitch may pull a rabbit out of his hat. I don't think many people back in 2009 thought we were going to land Cal. Who knows. Right now, everyone is focused on Scott as the only option since Hurley and Oats are out of mix and Donovan having to wait until NBA Season over. I think we may all be surprised.

Less successful than you…. 🤣

What buddy? You think everybody that posts here is below Matt Jones in life? Are you that dumb??

I'm not going to argue with you, but you just brought a HUGE smile to my face. PS, I don't have a single social media account and he couldn't carry my water if you want to talk success. What naivity. Love it, thought. Make me feel more blessed.

As of this morning, Calipari still hasn’t informed UK he is resigning Until that happens, UK has to wait to officially reach out to coaches
Well then, fire his *** so it immediately becomes official!!! He has already voided his contract for talking to other schools, so we would still be able to avoid paying the buyout.

Mitch is not going to hire Chris Beard or Bruce Pearl. He is not going after guys with shady off the court issues. This probably excludes Oats as well

You are only wasting time talking about Beard and Pearl

If Matt Jones is what you think it wildly successful in their career and that he's looking down on every poster here as far as success, goodness help you. UN-REAL.
Really successful people in life don't feel the need to remind everyone else how successful they are in relation to others.

Agree. That's why you don't have any clue who I am, never will and I don't go around trying to get social media followers. I couldn't care less to flaunt anything but we now live in a world where many think career success is defined by social media followers. [laughing]

PS, I didn't start this. I was told that Matt Jones was my superior and I WILL make sure to laugh at that as it's 101% false. TIA

Nothings really ‘solo’ ….its just that you don’t see the ‘committees’ with ex-jocks anymore . ‘Bama didn’t even do that when saban left, and they probably could’ve had 90% of college football coaches and a few NFL
Not necessarily. There’s a whole lot of coaches who would much rather go anywhere BUT a place where they will be put under the microscope daily and have to deal with the level of scrutiny that comes with the fan bases and expectations at top programs. It takes a certain kind of coach with the ability to navigate that. I would say that’s a pretty small percentage of coaches with the fortitude to handle that.
