Danny Hurley is the kind of guy you have to make a play for, though he is highly unlikely to say yes. Jay Wright is also the kind of guy you have to offer, though I think he has lost his motivation to coach and will also say no. Donovan, with 2 national titles and 4 (I think) final fours at a non-blue blood program is also a guy you have to contact. Donovan could be a maybe. For him, I think the timing might be right to return to college basketball. I think Scott Drew would accept but you don't offer him until the other three guys who have each won a couple of natty's say no.

I think the two most realistic options at this point in order of preference would be:

1A Donovan
1B Drew

If it goes beyond those two, we are probably in trouble.

If we have to go below Scott Drew then this will be a disaster. Getting told no by the one most don’t even want would suck.
Move to Rajon Rondo at that point. Kidding.

But I’m really not that worried about experience. Sheyer will win a title in the next five to seven years.

Matt really has been out of the loop and last to know on anything UK bball related. He is just throwing crap out there. No **** we are gonna contact these guys.

He's taking info straight from the trilly discord it sounds like. I'm not on there but based on what people are posting from it, they're way ahead of whatever Jones posts.

Jones stealing info is just par for the course.

I think the first legit possible yes is from Drew. No way Hurley leaves now. I just don't see Donovan wanting to deal with college crap.

I think people need to stop poo pooing Drew and start talking yourselves into him. He isn't a sexy A lister, but I think he gives us what we actually need, and what many of us have said we want. Stability, focus on team, continuity etc.

Yeah, that tweet sounds a lot like someone just pretending to have inside info when he’s really just repeating the same stuff being said by others.

Order should be.

Dan Hurley

Scott Drew

If that list is real.

MB should already know the chances with each from backchanneling with their reps. This seems to be a mostly solo search by him and I am not confident in his recruiting abilities.

Nothings really ‘solo’ ….its just that you don’t see the ‘committees’ with ex-jocks anymore . ‘Bama didn’t even do that when saban left, and they probably could’ve had 90% of college football coaches and a few NFL

I would prefer rick 1000x over Drew. I get he did a nice job with Baylor- this is a different gig.

MJ should stick to stupid pregame speeches and making fun or backwoods callers. Really hope the new coach sees though his arrogance and doesn’t give him the time of day either (while winning).

I mean he is giving a western fan/uk hater (billy) a platform as we speak to talk about the coaching search lmao. And some of you still eat it up smh

Please don't hear what I'm not saying, but there are many bubbles that people live in.
A lot of us born in Kentucky live in the UK bubble.
Like we should, we are prone to be proud of the bubble, but we are also prone to think that other's outside the bubble would like to be invited to join the bubble.
We're finding out that there are bubbles outside our bubble that like us, are happy living in their bubbles.
Turning down an invitation isn't necessary a rejection but a response of "I'm happy with the bubble I'm in".

I don't see Donovan in play here. I think UK wants a coach in here sooner rather than later. The Portal players will be scooped up and leaving UK on the outside looking in.

There are some young hungry guys below Drew that just may work out with us. But we are not there yet. If you need your psychiatrist on speed dial, so be it.

It’s not a solo search. Mitch is good with the boosters advice. How do you think we ended up with Cal?

Based on Drew’s personality, what he values in life, and his previous comments about how coaching basketball isn’t a top priority for him I expect him to say no.

With Donovan the portal would be absolutely crucial , as he has no players or recruits to bring. I don’t see him in play here

It is not unheard of for coaches to accept a new coaching job before their season ends. I know of examples in college football and basketball, and bet there are pro examples too.

Just saying we heard much more from other involvement then. Lee Todd was known to be fully engaged. He was a huge Cal proponent (and really disliked BCG).

He said it was a guess. Well if you go on Twitter, every person that’s on there has the same guess. Nobody knows a damn thing. It’s all speculation, the only people that know anything is Mitch and his bosses. They will let us know what’s going on when they let us know. Before that happens all this BS we hear on Twitter and YouTube is all just for clicks. The media people know that Kentucky moves the needle. That’s the only reason why they’re talking about it. They don’t know a damn thing on what’s going on.

If you only care about next year, then yeah he moves down the list some.
IMO, you have to look at the bigger more long term picture. No he's not a 20 year hire, but we've not had one of those in almost 90 years. But 10 years is a reasonable expectation.

Portal plus retain some of current and retain a few of our commitments will work.

I’m completely against offering Hurley just to be told no which he clearly will do.

It’s the optics of going to ask out the 10 but then making the 7 feel good about your proposal despite her seeing what you just did. 😂

This twit still have a business? Probably all politics at this point.
He’s more successful than you can imagine. And over 300,000 Twitter followers, so yes he is as big as ever. Sorry his politics hurt your feelings.
