I mean I see what he's saying but I really dont know what else Cal could have really done this game that he didn't do. I mean it's real easy to just yell ZONE like it's some end all be all but it isn't.

Now if you wanna talk roster management and why were relying on a transfer from Illinois St to be so crucial, or why players are quitting at the end of the year or never playing at all..(Sharpe) or why he's not meeting his obligations off the court post game and just being a douche in general, these are all very fair criticisms. Agreed

But for THIS GAME with the players we had available im not sure what he was supposed to do. 2 of his 4 best players went 2-22 and literally missed like, 17 wide open looks, and they hit 3 dagger there's in the final 2 minutes to win, 2 stepback well contested and one from 26 feet no one saw coming. I mean I don't know what you want him to do about that. AGAIN, if you're wondering why we're relying on an Illinois St. Transfer and having guys with the talent level of Ware playing in the first place, totally fair, and I agree.
Cal lost two national championships to UCONN because of a single guard like that kid today. There was no adjustment when he got hot, just like he did not adjust in the games against UCONN.

If you don't think a 3-2 zone is a decent strategy to try and stop constant penetration, then I don't know what to tell you. Nobody has ever said play Syracuse zone for 40 minutes, but when every basket in a first half is at the rim, you have to make an adjustment and at least try something different. 5 to 10 minutes of zone probably changes this game .

Oscar is a rebounding freak. Yes. But he is such a huge problem in so many other facets of the game. Defense in general. Pick and Roll is obvious. But he literally gets lost like all the freaking time. Constantly.

But not just defense. Dude could score 50 points per game if he didn’t bring the ball down to his knees every time he rebounds it, gets a pass into the post, whatever. His first and only instinct is to bring the ball low. Turnover waiting to happen. Opposing teams know this and are ready and waiting.

He can’t pass to save his life. Can’t pass out of the post at all. Can’t pass out front on top of key. Can’t pass to a cutter. Dude is literally stupid with the basketball.

Lot of issues, but he can rebound the **** out of the ball. But so many issues. So many.

This is why da will never be a coach at uk, not a yes man and he knows the game
Sure would be nice to have coaching talent instead of used car salesmen
He knows, or knew, how to play. There is nothing to indicate he could coach at all. We have many former players that have coached and, some that are coaching now. Why DA over one of those that at least has a record. Let me guess, he doesnt like Cal. That is your biggest prerequisite for the job I suppose.

There's a guy on Twitter using the traps as an example of Cal adjusting mid-game. They gave up 3 easy buckets trying to trap the water bug
He's tried trapping the point guard several games this year, usually right before half-time and end of games and it never works, one would think he would have noticed this by know. I think he just does it to show that he's trying stuff.

Cal does not learn, he gets an idea in his head and it must be right because it is alone in there.

DA has a great point....but there are more

1. In first half....why were we trying to pressure full court that led to open court easy buckets.
2. The trapping of ball....DA clearly made that point.
3. Why sucker yourself to playing Ware in that game so much at the PF (resting Oscar...100%). Ware's man essentially double teamed Oscar and took him out of game every moment Ware played with Oscar. We dind't need Ware's toughness....Oscar was able to control the point nearly on his own. We needed an offensive threat at the PF spot.
4. We reverted to walking the ball up in last 10 minutes......everytime we had open court stuff....we shoiuld have pushed it and forced plays.
5. We should have posted Nowell at 5'8 the entire game. We posted Wallace a few times but when he got switched on Livingston, etc....we never posted the advantage.
6. We were not prepared at all late in game situational defense. We are down 5 under a minute and we foul with 39 seconder in game but 13 on shot clock....and it resets to 20 seconds. Either foul early or play full defense on shot clock. We didn't double Nowell late on inbounds.....we let them easily get the ball to their 88% FT shooting PG....why not force it thru others. We are down 6 under a 20 seconds....we take a drive for 2pts instead of getting a three up. Just total buffoonery end of game.
7. The offensive sets are just abysmal.....we have Oscar in picks at top of key.....can't get him the ball and we just don't move the defense much at all.

But again, doesnt' feel like winning at UK is the priority from Cal or even administration. Short handed roster again (and 2 open rides to use) Best guard playing thru injury again....why not play regular season with a deeper bench to keep guys fresher and actually build some depth in case you need it. But I guess we're stuck with waiting until we have enough money to buy out this insane contract.

I mean to me all that is true but the bottom line is he just didn’t have the studs, I mean we literally had 1 healthy guard, just think about that. Just a terrible job of building the roster, way too PF and center heavy just like last year. The bottom line is KState literally put a team together from scratch this Summer and had a better roster than UK, just let that sink in.

Cal just made a terrible decision keeping Wheeler around then Skyy Clark decommits and we don’t get another PG on the roster, I mean let’s be real, we could of had the little guard for Vandy or KState, just horrible use of his scholarships. We bring in Theiro and UGO and he refuses to play them.

To me this is the travesty of Cal. Either recruit freshman/portals to be 10 deep. This is 3/4 seasons in a row that lack of depth has hurt us at the end. Have to have more players and more options.

Watching FDU play , they just subbed in 4 fresh players , at the 12 min mark in the 2nd half with the game on the line .... begging the question , IF Farliegh Freaking Dickson can sub in. 4 at a time how in world can the Ky Wildcats not do it ?

Somebody said the like on the game thread. Asked something like “when did Kemba Walker show up?”

So the rumors of DA joining the staff are unfounded?
Maybe much exaggerated?

A tad premature?

Purely speculative?

A product of a demented mind?

A gross canard? [WTF is a “gross canard?]

When you watch all these tournament games the coaching part is such a disadvantage for us. The players can't shoot is part of it. A combination of lack of an eye for recruiting fundamental sound players and then so many coaching things like the stubborness to not play a zone or the struggles to get good shots.

This is the VERY THING that will HELP get rid of Cal. When former players start speaking out on how HORRIBLE Cal has become, he will not like it AND his EGO won't be able to take it.

He isn't the only former player that doesn't like the status of our program. I know 2 more BIG TIME former players that feel the same way or WORSE about Cal!!!
I wish the other 2 former players would speak out also.

They have NUMEROUS times to me, but I just won't tell who until they do so publicly.

Let's just say they were NEVER fans of the One-and-Done and are sick of the way UK's rich tradition has been put on the back burner under Cal.

Cal has to be kicking himself. He thought long and hard and came up with Toppin and Ware and they produced 4 points combined while holding the team accountable and empowering them

One can only wonder if he had named CJ and Wheeler captains instead.

Those are some good observations….my two favorite are:
1. Why are we always the worst team in the country in defending dead ball inbound plays?
2. Why do you recruit shooters to the team who can’t get their own shot but NEVER run a play for them with a double screen??? Watch other teams or the NBA they frequently run plays for shooters with a double screen but never Cal.

If 3C's had developed this team properly the 3 Daggers' at the end wouldn't have been a problem, we would have been 20 up. If 3c's would have played a zone at the end the 3 daggers' might not have been there. I will agree that had Toppins or Reeves hit just a below average pace rather than a horridly below average pace we could have pulled this one out.
