Kansas has 4 titles. They have won a lot of games since 1980 due to having Larry brown, Roy and now self (KU has had better and consistent coaches the past 40 plus years and it's not debatable) but have only won 3 titles in that stretch.
We have only won 3 since 1980 as well.

Imagine being pissed off after a gutsy win in the road.

“Hey UK won a tough Quad 1 Game in the road with no PG!”
This guy: “Son of a *****!”

Like I’m not happy with the season overall either but unless you’ve got a Time Machine in your back pocket, it is what it is. Let’s roll the dice and see what happens.

Not defending this bad year (yet again), but all one has to do to see a shift in dynamics is look at all of the other schools' records this year. It's a bizarre year when you have top 10 teams with 8+ losses, and the best teams still have 5-6 losses. Usually we see the top ten with no less than 4-5 losses.

Again, not making any excuses for our debacle. We have an HOF coach being paid $9m per year at the most basketball-focused school in the country. We should be up there with KU and Houston and well ahead of crap programs like Alabama. But again, this is a weird year, and I put the reason as NIL and transfer portal mixing up parity.

But I'm here to root for the team to go as far as we can. Not sure why that's so hard for some folks. This isn't lowered expectations. We all had Final Four expectations at the start of the year. This is called recalibrating and doing the best we can with what we've been dealt, and supporting our team when they have a chance to perhaps make some noise (and yes, bitching if we flop).
I think the NIL and transfer portal, as it is have changed college basketball big time and college sports are different the past couple seasons than ever before

Sounds like you've accepted mediocrity. I will never do that.

I can root for UK basketball while at the same time recognizing that this year has been an unacceptable result. Some of us are nonlinear thinkers. I guess you aren't.
But why post this now? There’s been plenty of other times (and according to you you’ll have chances once we lose in the SEC/NCAA tourneys).

Are we not supposed to enjoy a huge win in Bud Walton? Just don’t understand the point of wanting to be negative today of all days. I’d prefer not to be miserable

How do you explain Kansas? They have managed to keep their Program on top. They have faced the same headwinds as we have.
Recency bias my man, Kansas has had plenty of bad years as well. It’s happened throughout the history of any blue blood program. There are stretches of mediocrity and/or downright bad seasons. That’s how it works, at Kentucky, or Kansas either one.

Kansas **** the bed on a yearly basis in the tournament for a long while. Our fans would have had a fit. It’s all cyclical

Afraid not poncho, sure every program has a bad season here and there, but, 10 loss Cal is still here even though we ran Tubby out of town for getting 10 losses consistently. Cal has lost our records, he has made us the laughing stock of College basketball.

Let’s do a little math for you @KYCAT78 . Kansas all time winning percentage is 72.9%. In todays game there is 31 regular season games and on average 4-5 post season games per season.

So let’s say 36 games on average. Take their 72.9% average winning percentage and you get what record? 26-10🤷🏻‍♂️. So with the amount of games played today historically Kansas loses 10 per season. Like I said recency bias is why you feel Kansas consistently stays on top. It’s simply not true. /facts are facts numbers don’t lie.

First off, I wasn't talking to you.

Second, I admitted no such thing. But AGAIN, I notice that you NEVER scold the cowbois when they spike the football and castigate the Cal critics after a win. You are always one sided in your replies.
There are baiters on both sides .
This is not the Kentucky I grew up with.
Wins were the norm and a loss was a rarity, especially at home.
I remember the days when you didn't want to be the opponent after a loss.
You knew you were going to get rolled.
I really appreciated and was surprised at yesterday's win,
But It pains me that we lost to Ark.,S.C and Vandy at home.
Bad!

That's where we're headed, for those of you cowbois spiking the football after last night's win against average Arky.

Please. Defend it. Explain how we are going to run the table in the SECT and NCAAT. If we lose one game in each we're at 12 losses.

The longest winning streak this year has been 4 games. This team's potential is, best case, to win the SECT which means best case 11 losses.

This will be the THIRD WORST season since Cal has been here, unless we make a wildly improbable run in the NCAAT.

I'm glad a numbers guy said this. I had a person look me dead in the eye and say I couldn't state that because I wasn't an experienced accountant.

Like, seriously? i mean I get CPAs do a lot more with numbers than most, but math is still math, and you can absolutely use it to bolster your own bad viewpoint. There is a reason its called "government math" after all.

If you want to see the most lies look at politics. They constantly change approval ratings in both parties by sampling the demographic population that gives them the desired results.

OP is proof that some folks ***** because the sun comes up. If we run the table, we'd still have 10 losses. Would that still be unacceptable? How about if we win the SECT, and then lose in the NCAA, and have 11? Admittedly, winning the SECT, and an early out in the NCAA would be disappointing, but we'd have some hardware. If we have a great week in Nashville, I'll feel much better than I did in January.

One was canceled because of Covid the other was the worst season in UK HISTORY lol.

The simple point which you refuse to refute is the loser mentality of, “well things are just different now so guess we can’t win it anymore.”

Why are other teams ranked and going to win this year? Do other teams have built in advantages that Kentucky doesn’t?

“Here we go again.”

You truly think since 2017 things are just wonderful here because we could have won if things went different?

Kentucky had a great regular season in 2022, but you understand that this coach has constantly pointed out that the season doesn’t matter it is to get us ready for march? So if you haven’t won a game in march in over 4 years things are ok?

Welcome to Bloomington.
I don’t think that at all. I’ve been to every FF that UK has played in since 1978. Have you?

I’ve been to 32 SEC tournaments. Have you?

I don’t refuse to acknowledge anything except the blind hatred for the coach.

But since you asked “since ‘17?” Yes, very good team in ‘19. Lost in the E8 to a team we had beaten twice. ‘20 was a great team. Won the regular SEC season by 3 games.

Last season was a very good season. Earned a 2 seed.

You are entitled to your own opinions and your own misery. You are not entitled to your own facts.

Ok coach Cal. Didn’t know going to games meant you are automatically smarter than everyone else.

Kentucky lost to a team they just beat by 20 points without their best player, that’s dissapointing.

20’ and 22’ very well could have turned out the same. Disappointment.

This season before wheeler got hurt we were certainly heading for an NIT, disappointing.

2021 was the worst season in Kentucky history: disappointment.

You are entitled to your opinion, but also not entitled to your blind following of the coach either.

If you think the last 4 years are something to be proud of, and I just am a person who hates Cal because I am an idiot then I guess we just are too far off to have a conversation, because neither of us are rational apparently.

It’s not defending it. It’s called rooting for your team instead of constantly shitting on them. Is it really that hard to understand? If you are a fan of a team then you root for them regardless of the situation. It’s okay to disagree with decisions or voice your opinion with what you think should occur to better future outcomes, but it’s not ok to give up, **** on the coaches, players, administration and organization. So many of the posters on here need to take a step back and realize what they’ve become.

It will never be the UK basketball of previous decades, the world has changed and so has the game of basketball. NIL, transfer portal and the NBA money has made it to where the “way it used to be” is no more and never will be. The sooner people can grasp that and get a grip on it the better. Either way if you Love Kentucky basketball then you root for them through the good times and the bad, not only when we are elite. I’m not saying turn a blind eye to obvious issues, but regardless of the issues it’s still your team so be a fan not a whiner. /End Rant

I'm not defending anything. The SC and UGA losses are inexcusable. I feel like Cal didn't actually try to coach or gameplan for a large chunk of the season. I've been very critical of him. He deserves every bit of that criticism.

He changed. We're playing some of the best basketball in the country. Tennessee and Arkansas are both hard places to win. We won at ARK without a PG. He's coaching. He's game planning. He's drawing up out of bounds plays.

It's so annoying and frustrating that he refused to do this earlier in the year. But we're looking good going into the SECT. I'm going to root for us to play good basketball and be ready for the big tournament.

No one needs to or should defend the losses or the 3 year slide we've been on. I can root for this team and not be happy with what has already happened. Right now, I'm going to enjoy the ride.

Cal isn't getting fired regardless of what everyone posts on this message board. We can all stand up and hold hands and say "We don't accept this!!!!"

But it's not as if that's some magical spell that will vanquish an underacheiving coach. He's going to be here next year.

yeah and they would trade a loss to us to be in the tournament also.
What? We were already in the tournament. That loss, may or may not effect our seed line. Luckily, we did our jobs at Bud Walton. But let's not pretend that wasn't a crappy loss.

I'm just going to LIKE all your posts and use that as my default response to all threads from here on out this season, my friend.

Damn well said in every.single.response.

couldn't have said it better myself.

But I will add that at this point :

(and please, everyone, pardon my runt rant, yet again......)

I'm just going to try to enjoy the journey no matter what happens, take it all with a grain of salt. I'm on the flip side of surviving a brain tumor neigh on 26 years now, still fighting the good fight with the residual tumor left over, not going down without fighting till the bitter end. I'm also STILL LITERALLY STANDING and WALKING after being in a wheelchair for over 7 years from a terrible accident breaking my back.

And I got OUT of it almost 5 years ago, thank you Jesus my savior !

Doctors literally telling me ....

#1 I'll never walk again ? PFFFT
#2 It's a miracle I can walk again ? hahahahaha

YES, miracles can and do happen. My life is chock full of them.

So why not a miracle ending for OUR BBN and Kentucky Basketball, making a miraculous comeback on a otherwise downer season from the heady expectations at the start of yet another journey ??? It would be an epic pleasure, and I could even poke fun at myself for being such a downer !

Hell, I'm all in no matter what. No matter if Cal stays coach even though I got tired of him a LONG time ago and have since mellowed on him.

and why?

Because many things are more important than a GAME

But I'll never throw in the towel for Kentucky basketball, that I have followed and loved for my entire 54 years of life on this mortal plane of existence.

And will until the day I die.

Go Big Blue 'till death, baby !

Personal attacks always show you have nothing else.

I didn’t call you an idiot. I didn’t say I was proud of the last 4 years so you are correct that you and I cannot have a conversation.

As for Cal, I think it’s time for him to move on. Not because he can’t coach, he can. But because of the players first stuff.

Good on him for that. He said that’s what his mission is and he’s followed that mission.

He can go do that somewhere else. I want the UK coach to be program first.

So you are saying the supposedly #1 program on plant earth can no longer compete with the blue blood due to NIL money, NBA money, transfer portal, etc. ??? If anything this should help the #1 program, not hurt it. Stop making excuses for continued poor performance. I think the work is "adapt to the new environment". If you just look around, you will see a lot of coaches have adapted too well and are eating Cal's lunch not to mention breakfast and dinner.
