That's where we're headed, for those of you cowbois spiking the football after last night's win against average Arky.

Please. Defend it. Explain how we are going to run the table in the SECT and NCAAT. If we lose one game in each we're at 12 losses.

The longest winning streak this year has been 4 games. This team's potential is, best case, to win the SECT which means best case 11 losses.

This will be the THIRD WORST season since Cal has been here, unless we make a wildly improbable run in the NCAAT.

It’s not defending it. It’s called rooting for your team instead of constantly shitting on them. Is it really that hard to understand? If you are a fan of a team then you root for them regardless of the situation. It’s okay to disagree with decisions or voice your opinion with what you think should occur to better future outcomes, but it’s not ok to give up, **** on the coaches, players, administration and organization. So many of the posters on here need to take a step back and realize what they’ve become.

It will never be the UK basketball of previous decades, the world has changed and so has the game of basketball. NIL, transfer portal and the NBA money has made it to where the “way it used to be” is no more and never will be. The sooner people can grasp that and get a grip on it the better. Either way if you Love Kentucky basketball then you root for them through the good times and the bad, not only when we are elite. I’m not saying turn a blind eye to obvious issues, but regardless of the issues it’s still your team so be a fan not a whiner. /End Rant

Not defending this bad year (yet again), but all one has to do to see a shift in dynamics is look at all of the other schools' records this year. It's a bizarre year when you have top 10 teams with 8+ losses, and the best teams still have 5-6 losses. Usually we see the top ten with no less than 4-5 losses.

Again, not making any excuses for our debacle. We have an HOF coach being paid $9m per year at the most basketball-focused school in the country. We should be up there with KU and Houston and well ahead of crap programs like Alabama. But again, this is a weird year, and I put the reason as NIL and transfer portal mixing up parity.

But I'm here to root for the team to go as far as we can. Not sure why that's so hard for some folks. This isn't lowered expectations. We all had Final Four expectations at the start of the year. This is called recalibrating and doing the best we can with what we've been dealt, and supporting our team when they have a chance to perhaps make some noise (and yes, bitching if we flop).

Definitely more parity than ever but we should be thriving in this environment.

Sounds like you've accepted mediocrity. I will never do that.

I can root for UK basketball while at the same time recognizing that this year has been an unacceptable result. Some of us are nonlinear thinkers. I guess you aren't.

It's not accepting mediocrity. It's not lowered expectations. As I say above, we all had the usual Kentucky Final Four expectations at the start of the year. Many of us doubted we'd be as good as the talking heads said we'd be. But we still had those expectations. Then when failure and a small rebound comes, we had to recalibrate and hope for the best. That's what fans do. They say "well, ****, we didn't get where we thought we should, and it's probably this coach's fault, but the least I can do is stand behind the program and hope for success in the NCAAT".

They don't play this guy (they'll probably blow it in the playoffs!!!):

First off, I wasn't talking to you.

Second, I admitted no such thing. But AGAIN, I notice that you NEVER scold the cowbois when they spike the football and castigate the Cal critics after a win. You are always one sided in your replies.

Who **** in your cheerios?

Nobody is like “oh Cal is great again, that win makes this a good season, now we are a favorite to win it all again”.
But let us enjoy a win, a win vs one of our biggest SEC rivals, a win vs a good (not great) team we shouldn’t have gotten without any PG.
Geez!!!

I’d put this season close to the 13, 14, and 16 seasons. 13 had a valid excuse for the finish, and the committee said would have been considered for the tourney if not for Noel injury. 15 revived themselves with run to the finals, and 16 had many of us favorite Cat but also an obvious team weakness.

Will this team finish strong like 14. I doubt it. But it’s possible. In any one game we can beat any team; and can lose to any team. So it’s like flipping a coin on heads 6 times in a row (1:64 odds, 1.5% chance).

Yep we could make a run. But we haven't shown that capability this year. Did we have any winning streaks over 4 games in 2014?

So, beating Arkansas AT their place with both of our point guards OUT isn’t a remarkable feat because we beat an average team? An average team who is #14 in the NET/RPI? Wow.

Its probably true, but they just came off a big win yesterday, let’s give them the credit they deserve. Yesterday was a really fun game, and the cats stepped up big time Kentucky can win the SEC tournament, now in the NCAA I am not expecting them to make a deep run, but you never know, yesterday showed me they will fight and won’t be pushovers, so I am taking the “ let the game be played” approach. Can’t complain about this weekend, Kentucky stepped and showed the potential they have

There’s always one (or ten) wet blanket the day after a great win, they live in a world of misery. I choose to live in the present and understand that this team, regardless of the number of losses has the opportunity to do big things in both tournaments. I will enjoy watching and rooting them on and that’s not settling it’s called being a Kentucky fan.

Yeah but Kansas stays at the top every single year with seemingly zero top nba prospects.

If it can be done at Kansas it would be Indiana of us to think that well that’s just the way it is now. Can’t win a tournament game but once every 4 years maybe if we are lucky.

NIL is a huge disadvantage in football for us I believe, in basketball it should be yet another reason we rise to the top of the sport.

Of course I think rooting for Kentucky non matter what is best for the fans, but if fans accept, “well we can never be as good as we once were,” then the last four years will feel like the Glory days.

The sky was falling:

When Rupp didn't win a title and made 1 FF his last 15 years as coach.

When Hall couldn't close things out his first several seasons.

When Sutton nearly gave us the death penalty.

When Pitino lost to Michigan, Marquette and UNC.

When Tubby could never return to a FF.

When BCG couldn't replace Tubby.

When Cal couldn't replicate his past success.

Tale as old as time...UK Basketball will be just fine, just like they always have been. This is just a challenging spot, one we've been through many times.

No one is happy with the overall trajectory this season has taken. Not one person on here accepts mediocrity or thinks the last 3 years has been business as usual at UK.

It was an impressive and gritty win and as I maintain from yesterday a lot of UK teams would have lost yesterday without their point guard and number 2 pg.

All that said, ready for calipari to go yesterday but I can only control what I control. That is cheering on the cats while still acknowledging the overall issues. The more I look the less I see a clear replacement though. The wife beater is out, the murderous loving coach is out IMO, and I still don't like how old muss is. I think this job is a younger coaches job and an 8 to 10 year job. All of this is irrelevant anyways as we know who the coach is going to be at least one more season.

There's no defending 10 losses. But I'm not going to address 2 more losses until and unless they happen. I think we win the SEC tourney. I will certainly be there cheering for it.

We should not be sitting on 10 losses right now. Wheeler should have been benched long ago. We shouldn't have a short bench with 2 scholarships open. This is a poorly designed roster with below UK expected talent.

But we are the team we are and I'm going to pull for this team to win. We are playing really good basketball right now. There's not a team out there that I would be scared to play. That's as much an indictment on college basketball as a whole as anything. But you play in the season you play in. I'm glad the field is not as strong when we don't have a powerful team. I much prefer that we going in kicking the doors open vs sliding in the already opened door.

Again, we are who we are and we are in the time we are in. Let's take advantage of it. I saw this team in the Bahamas. Those are just glorified practices though. They are pick up games with referees. I saw this team in London. We did not look good. But we won.

I saw them wednesday night and we didn't look good. Those are the only times I've seen this team live. I'll see them friday night. I expect to see a completely different team than I saw in London. We always get the most fair whistle from SEC officials at the SEC tourney. UK is the only game in town. The hotels, restaurants and bars all want UK to stick around.

It's got to be pretty miserable counting losses that haven't happened.

Here we go again. Last 4 years, '20, '21, '22, '23. '20 was a great team rounding into form. Won the SEC regular season by 3 games. I thought that was a certain FF team. They didn't get to play. '21 was historically awful and no one says differently. '22 was a very good team. A 2 seed in the tourney. Blew out UNC and Kansas and UT. Yes, it ended badly. But that was one game. The story of '23 hasn't been written yet. It was certainly looking bad. But things have changed. We are a good team now capable of beating anyone.

And there has been only 2 tournaments in the last 4 years. I guess whining about not winning a game in either of those is just not strong enough?

Getting a “I piss in my own cereal to have something to ***** about every day” vibes.

Most of us are disappointed with the total body of work for the season. Yesterday was a great win - won in a tough environment with a short handed team. The staff and players deserve praise for YESTERDAY. Some of us are capable of comprehending both.

Everyone is 0-0 now. Will this team make a deep run? Probably not. Can they? Maybe.

I feel like some people think UK basketball is only 1948-58, 1975-78, 1993-98 and 2011-15 constantly. We’ve had our fair share of also-ran years, years we were good but not great, and few bad years. Our success (FFs and titles) has always ebbed and flowed and seems to come in clusters. Hopefully a hot stretch is coming soon with either Cal or his replacement at the helm.

One was canceled because of Covid the other was the worst season in UK HISTORY lol.

The simple point which you refuse to refute is the loser mentality of, “well things are just different now so guess we can’t win it anymore.”

Why are other teams ranked and going to win this year? Do other teams have built in advantages that Kentucky doesn’t?

“Here we go again.”

You truly think since 2017 things are just wonderful here because we could have won if things went different?

Kentucky had a great regular season in 2022, but you understand that this coach has constantly pointed out that the season doesn’t matter it is to get us ready for march? So if you haven’t won a game in march in over 4 years things are ok?

Welcome to Bloomington.

Kansas has 4 titles. They have won a lot of games since 1980 due to having Larry brown, Roy and now self (KU has had better and consistent coaches the past 40 plus years and it's not debatable) but have only won 3 titles in that stretch.

When u stop and look at things now, we should be 26-5. Period. We would be a 1 seed and probably have a shot to win. But our so called coach **** the bed most of the season and we lost games we had no business losing and looked bad doing it. He needs to leave after the season ends and I mean the next day.

Damn man. No real UK fan is defending Cal. We want his *** gone. I agree they will have 12 losses likely. That is not UK basketball.
But root for the team the players at the very least when they get a victory on the road with no point guard.
I got news for you. Arkansas isn't good UK isn't good. Not one team in college basketball is truly good.
Enjoy the wins. If you can't even do that. Why do you even watch?

I think your inability to celebrate a hard fought short handed victory on the road in Bud Walton tells me you certainly are not a non linear thinker. You can celebrate a hard fought victory and still be unhappy with how the entirety of the season has played out. I doubt anyone is happy with how this season played out after the expectations early on. That doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate our team.

We’ve won several “big” games this season and we’ve lost several terrible ones as well. It’s not about being okay with mediocrity, it’s about cheering for a program you care about no matter what. For your first instinct after yesterday’s win being to jump on here and immediately downplay and bash the team and fan base tells the story about you. /facts are facts
