Midrange jumpers have always seemed to me to be the lazy way out. Can't get a shot? Settle for a midrange. Can't create your own? Settle for a midrange. Defense is better than our offense? Settle for a midrange.

Most defenses lay off of those midrange shots and put more emphasis on guarding the paint and threes. Midranges are great for professional players that have honed that skill. But in college, it's just an awful, awful, lazy, incompetent shot selection.

I know people hate on it, but let's be real - Toppin and Oscar both shoot the mid-range jumper really, really well. We've won games BECAUSE of those 2 making mid-range jumpers. Some of the biggest shots of the year have been Cason, CJ and Reeves hitting mid-range shots. While I'm not some huge fan of mid-range jumpers, I just don't understand why so many people hate on them. But then again I'm in my 15th year of coaching basketball, so maybe I have a different perspective than a casual fan

Agree CatFanIL, it's amazing that college athletes can't hit a 15 to 18 foot shot consistently, especially free throws. IMO we just don't have the quality of speed needed to coach quality 3 point shooting. Reeves and Livingston moves well enough to get open and ofcourse Wallace, especially if he's playing shooting guard. When Wheeler is out it totally changes the game for Wallace. I know many don't like Wheeler but when he in there are 3 different ones that can't shoot the 3 well.

Not much complaining about all the mid range jumpers Reeves and Toppin took today I guess.
Yeah but you do know the goal isn’t beating losing record in the SEC, it’s tournament success, right? Shooting a bunch of mid range jumpers isn’t a recipe for winning 6 games in a row. Hell we haven’t won more than 4 in a row all season.

Ok, but you do know when the 3’s aren’t going in, if you want to win you have to shoot something else and not go down in flames making <20% from 3.
