I am talking about a guy like Toppin. I like him but he is only an average player. He can't shoot very well. He is not really big enough to be a 4. He is not very physical and he often tries to avoid contact.
He also seems to be very insecure and he lacks confidence. Wheeler has the confidence you need to play for Kentucky. He simply is too short. A lot of point guards on other SEC teams can score on him very easily. He is not a Kentucky caliber starting point guard.Reed Travis was also not Kentucky material. He just wasn't good enough.
Chitown, I have one question for you. Who is the person that recruited these players? I believe it was primarily Cal. He must be a poor judge of talent, if you can evaluate the players better then he can. It appears to me, that it has been several years since we've had Kentucky caliber players, based on our record. Sometimes you have to face facts, that Cal is a great recruiter, but a lousy coach. I think that explains Cal very well. I think he would be a great dancer, from watching his footwork on the sidelines during the games. Evidently he missed his calling.

I have said that he has done a poor job of roster construction these last few years. I think that he knew this team would struggle this year. That's why he hired some new coaches and decided to only recruit one-and-done recruits for next year's class.
Cal realizes that he functions best with those types of recruits.
I still feel this year's team was vastly overrated, especially by the media. These players simply are not that good this year. Another coach might be able to get a little bit more out of them. I just don't belive that is true.

Cal is a weak coach and a weaker person of character to blame Oscar just shows how sad his life is.

Explain what "good job" means. Use specific in-game examples. Defend your position.
This is a team that is not nearly as talented as most people on this forum want to believe. They lost to South Carolina partially because 2 of their starters were injured. Everybody was criticizing Cal and some of the players. Cal knows that some of the guys are mentally fragile. He took full responsibility for the loss.
He was able to get his players energized. They beat the #2 team in the country on their home court.
They went on to win 5 of 6 games. Nobody had expected the team to do that. They have lost a few games since then Two of those losses were to superior teams. Injuries have definitely
had a major effect on the team.
He has made some adjustments. He has tried to compensate by giving players like Thiero more playing time. Despite some recent losses, the team is still united. I believe they will play well in today's game. If they win these n ext 2 games, I believe they will probably make it into the NCAA tournament.
