This should be interesting.
This should be interesting.
Agreed. This just seems outta control at this point. Evidently, bc of NIL and fear of lawsuits, the NCAA is effectively hamstrung from limiting transfers.I’m in favor of one freebie, but this is getting ridiculous. You’ll have guys play 4 years at 4 different schools.
Agree. This is getting stupid.I say you get two max. One freebie. Then the next one you must sit out a year.
I don’t think it will hurt football at all. The transfer portal has been a gold mine for our football program and I don’t see that changing.Agreed. This just seems outta control at this point. Evidently, bc of NIL and fear of lawsuits, the NCAA is effectively hamstrung from limiting transfers.
Pertaining to UK, I think this will prolly not hurt, even possibly help, basketball. Football I could see being negatively affected tho.
Seems like the NCAA has basically just given up. Everyone just do whatever you want now, they’re done trying to maintain a sense of order to all of this.
Thanks westernier, I'll notify all the dictionary producers to add a new word. Dummier has a good ring to it.I think this world is getting dummier by the minute !
It’s not a sustainable model. No idea when the implosion will take place, but it is very likely to happen at some point in time.Yea this is just a free for all going forward.
A little depressing to see how far things have gotten. I am supportive of players getting $$$ but wish it was set up more as a salary cap. When SC is bringing in the #1 recruit for likely $1 Million + you have an issue on your hands.
Actually on any dead ball.Next they can transfer at the first T V timeout
Hey Boy don't unpack my gearHave gun, will travel
Honestly, the gap between the power schools and mid majors may now grow so wide that eventually they’ll have no choice but to separate them.I don't understand why the bcs schools even bother. They should break off and form their own alliance.
I agree. You should only be allowed to switch companies you work for once every five years too.Stupid recommendation.
Article mentions that the ncaa has pretty much approved all requests for multiple transfers so this isn’t all that huge of an huge issue IMO. Just one of many recent signs that the landscape is so rapidly changing it may be completely unrecognizable very soon. I hope not.Someone brought up players transferring multiple times the other day and I looked up a couple of players who've transferred twice to try to find out what their status is for this season. I know you're supposed to sit a season but I think these guys are just getting waivers anyway. Wake Forest and Oklahoma each have one, and both are projected to play this season.
What’s could happen is that by allowing all of this freedom, which is probably the correct thing to do anyway, the players will drive down the reason their sport was popular in the first place. Then it’ll just devolve into only a few schools having certain teams with much popularity getting the best transfers and recruits and they’ll continually win championships while no one really cares about the sport. Tv money will dry up and NIL will follow suit eventually leading to the complete demise in popularity. Congrats everyone you just exercised your freedoms and destroyed the market for your sport. On the one hand, I would agree that it would be best for the athletes to have the freedom to play where they want to play, and the freedom to leave a bad situation without penalty.
On the other hand, I can certainly see where it would damage public interest in college sports, and make the recruiting process a nightmare for coaches.
I feel the the second point out-weighs the first. Let's not kill the golden goose. Leave it at one immediate transfer.
Oh yeah, it’s definitely gonna widen the gap between the haves and have nots. I just don’t see how mid majors are gonna be able to stay competitive with the big money schools in this new world order. Then it’ll just devolve into only a few schools having certain teams with much popularity getting the best transfers and recruits and they’ll continually win championships while no one really cares about the sport.
Solid take. I agree with everything, except the TV money. It'll always be there, but will be significantly diminished. There's a market for things like AAU tournaments and Big3 type stuff. Which is ultimataely the type of market NCAA might find itself in. Never in a million years would I've thought NCAA basketball could end up down on the level of things like NCAA baseball. But it looks like that's a strong possibility. Seems to be spiraling out and headed off the tracks. What’s could happen is that by allowing all of this freedom, which is probably the correct thing to do anyway, the players will drive down the reason their sport was popular in the first place. I agree they will continue to televise and there will be contracts, but it won’t be anything like the crazy contracts we’ve seen over the last few decades.Solid take. No this will turn into the wild west. The NCAA needs to die so the SEC and B1G can move on.https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...llows-players-to-transfer-multiple-times/amp/

We’re well on our way to that. The Pac 12 functionally dissolved a couple weeks ago. The Big 12 lost it’s two star programs and is actively poaching the rest of the Pac 12/AAC in response. The ACC’s idiot contract and Notre Dame acting like they better than ever being in a conference are the only things slowing down Super Conferences.I don't understand why the bcs schools even bother. They should break off and form their own alliance.

Way over reaction all over college sports.
1. I can get behind allowing a no sit transfer if the coach leaves or is fired.....that sort of logic allows the players to have same freedoms as coaches.
2. I can even get behind the grad transfer no sit policy...complete an education..you get an award.
3. But why the need for any other no sit transfers....it's really just going to worsen for smaller schools and another source of talent for bigger schools.
Kids coming and going is lessening college fans connection and once that connection erodes more and more...you'll be left with less fans $$$$. The nonsense of NBA with guys like Durant, Kyrie, etc..guys sitting out whole years, etc... is giong to push fans away. So as college starts to go down the same path...it's only going to attract less support.
