Safe to assume that since I wont physically be at Oaks or Derby this year, the weather will be absolutely perfect.

No need to even look at the forecast until 9am Friday, tbh.

Man I'm sure he's incredible (critically speaking) but all I see is a goofy white kid from Atherton. I don't understand it.

Monday Randos:

- Moving up to Michigan (Kalamazoo) in August…very hard decision which was made easier by the fact home/land prices are 1/3 no less than the national average, cannabis is legal, and I can finally just farm.

About a year and a half to two years ago I walked out of my job for 12 years as a mental health professional, and now I’m finally going to be able to realize my dream.

- Pretty bummed that the white guy from North/South Dakota State or didn’t want to come to a place that would have billed him as the “Great White Hope.”

- Stoops has the football team in a great spot, yet there seems to be little hype about his next recruiting class early. Seems like there is more hype toward the ‘24 class with all of the new assistants trying to make inroads there…which makes sense.

- I’ve developed arthritis/bunion in my big toe, not ideal. Anyone else deal with that? Moderate pain through the day and terrible at night sometimes from just use. (Not fat/inactive)
Congrats on the farm.

I have the same **** in my right big toe. It's a *****. Right in the big knuckle/joint. Thought it was rom pushing the sled at the gym but it's easily aggravated. Tried to get the resident DO to diagnose it Saturday but he was too distraught from eating a Medium Well steak.

Wasn’t Jack Harlow supposed to do riders up last year, but they canceled him last minute after the bartender at the club at waterfront was shot and killed by someone in his party?
Evidently he was accused of bailing on a check at Ruby's after sitting there for hours.

lol of course. Just once, I’d like you to show some civic pride and support Louisville and your various homies.

But I guess that’s too much to ask for a Low Country wannabe whose mind and heart - if not *** - are halfway out the door.

Can I get someone, anyone to stand up for the great city of Louisville anymore? It’s Derby week dammit. You have the twin spires, great topography, the hot brown, the Irish pub triumvirate, the best college basketball TV ratings in America.

Louisville needs some love. ❤️ Greatest city in the Commonwealth.

And Jack Harlow can spit.

This is true.

I'll be honest, the Derby spirit is starting to flicker. Seems the older I get the more it becomes a trip down memory lane, a bit like the holidays. It's fun to think of Derbys of yesteryear and it's hard not getting excited for another when one engages in such nostalgia.

My parents always did it right. Thursday night party. Oaks brunch at Maker's Mark. Party that night. At the track both days. Derby night dinner somewhere. We'd only see them in passing Thurs-Sun, enough for my Dad to drop a $20 on the kitchen counter for pizza and say he "didn't want any shenanigans." One of my Mom's friends was found sleeping on the couch more than a handful of mornings.

The old River City certainly has a way about her this time every year.

Not complaining. I've won a boatload betting against the Reds this season.

I guess if we are going to suck might as well make some cash off of it.

Lol, that's really the greatest thing about it. It's just, or was just, a few days when no f*cks were given. Just everyone in the City getting loose in unison. Hell, I slept on a porch, actually planned it out, at 3rd and Oakdale(then Tyler Ln) several years. Like that was just normal. Tonight I'm going to sleep on the front porch and if that doesn't work probably the back of a truck. The feeling of finishing my last exam on Wednesday and heading straight to the Wing Ding knowing I'm going to sleep about 5 hours over the next 4 days. Man, that's Derby.

I got ya on the light flickering, maybe for the whole week festivities, but Saturday morning... I'll be a kid on Christmas. Hope to get back to Oaks next year. This should make 22 for me, I think.

I'm also done being pissed off at my Hometown for acting a fool in 2020. Time to fix that **** before it gets too late.

SAE used to lead the charge of hate during my Years of renting the home & using the proceeds for a nice splurge vacation (Europe x3 & a couple other beaches)

You can love everything Derby & not physically attend. Just like the Final 4 or anything else.

…but his attitude about it lately is what’s concerning. 🥲 -glad to see he’s coming around a bit.

2001 Derby sticks out in my mind. Just finished my last final in college and my buddies & I from college roll into town.

We desperately needed some food after a debauchery fueled day in the Infield back when Derby Day in the Infield seemed like a scene from Mad Max and The Thunderdome. I’m sure part of it was my impressionable youth but that scene seemed buck wild looking back. Sneaking in your own booze, tits being flashed everywhere, fights breaking out all over the place, stepping over passed out bodies.

We hop in a cab on the way out and all I could think about was Indi’s wings. Cabbie takes us to the Lower Broadway location. This was when Freaknik moved its way up to Louisville in the form of cruising Broadway. We pull into the Indi’s parking lot… Hot damn what a scene. **** was unreal. Anything goes without a care in the world. Felt like a real world Juvenile video.

I believe the walk down Southern Parkway after Derby is one of the few things that hasnt changed much since the late 90's. Hit the backside for a bit- Stop in random house parties, Eating food off of people's grills. Pray you remember where you parked.

Its wild now to look back on the undeserved amount of freedom our parents let us have for those 2-3 days a year. You were just supposed to make a phone call to touch base, leave a message on the machine, and show up again sometime Sunday, late morning.

5-8th grade we held Coca-Cola signs in Wyandotte Park for Derby Traffic and every year in HS cleaned up the infield on Sunday as a fundraisers. I saw some ****.

A good portion of the posters in this thread could do Mel Kiper's job, and a lot of them would be more accurate.
