I like this approach. It is a given that if you go to a school like Kentucky or other Blue Blood schools there will be opportunities for NIL deals that will not always be available at other programs. If someone is coming in demanding x amount of $$ to play for you when you are coming from a smaller school thats a risk. Oscar came and took care of business and is going to be rewarded for doing so.

Not a good take. If Cal and MB don’t get on the nil train fully, we will become irrelevant.

I recall when the 3 point shot first started. Denny crum was one of the top coaches in the country. He did not embrace the 3 pointer and he became irrelevant. You have to embrace change or get left behind.

He is right. This is turning into a bidding war. Portal is turning into a second contract. Apparently we have fools that can’t see that. NIL is messed up beyond belief.
It is messed up but unless the ncaa steps in to regulate it, it is the way it is going to be. UK will have to adapt or get left behind.

Maybe better to get left behind for awhile. We’re going to end up with our own version of the players union

Not what he said at all.

He said if during the recruitment the kid/parents/people want to know an NIL amount or a guaranteed NIL amount that's not something he is going to entertain. I.e., he's not going to pay players to come to UK.
And rightly so!

Serious question: Do we want mercenaries at UK or players who are wanting to play for UK?
Seems like the crowd that screamed "get players who care more about the name on the front of the jersey" have turned into "get players who care more about the number on a contract than the name on the jersey".
That's a shame, it just makes CBB a professional sport.

I am glad someone besides me sees the blatant contradiction going on!

Wow.I'm honestly surprised by this because I thought UK could use NIL better than about anyone.Cal won't change and the game has passed him by.
The greediest coach in CBB is aghast at players wanting to maximize this change in earning potential.

I understand not making guarantees but having a system set up with a framework that takes advantage of our following is just dumb. It will be important for all these players moving forward.

Seriously? You're asking this question, considering Cal had Sharpe on the bench and now he's gone? The very first none and done in the country (and Cal did it), and you have the nerve to talk about getting people who want to play for UK?

LOL
