I think Cal trusted someone he had dealings with before and he got used. At some point did he realize it? Of course he did but it was too deep in. Should he have sent Sharpe packing, no. Other coaches would have used that against him in recruiting. When Cal met with Sharpe in February I think they agreed he would play. But Sharpe told Washington about this and he squashed it by telling Cal again Sharpe would play next year, but not this season. Plenty of blame to go around. If he does stay in the draft I’ll be glad this saga is over. Finish the roster and get ready for next season.

At what other program and with what other coach would something like this happen? Cal just keeps inventing new ways to prematurely send guys to the NBA. As if the constant revolving door of one and done players wasn't bad enough, now we have a none and done! Cal is allowing these guys to abuse our program for personal gain. This program benefitted zero by having Sharpe here. Untold money was spent to recruit him, then he was given a scholarship, NIL money and allowed to practice and workout with the team for 6 months while he plotted his NBA scheme. Sharpe was a 100% taker. He never contributed a single thing to UK. So hell yes, I blame him for this! He has turned our proud program into a damn joke and a circus.

I think one thing we all can agree on is that we are ready for this to be over.

Your math is wrong.

Who's in charge of the program?

Anyone who has responsibility (I'm guessing you don't) in real life knows that if the crap hits the fan, the one in charge is responsible.

Cal was in charge. He's responsible. Your false choice option that "other coaches would have used it against him" is silly. Cal is the same coach who watched Whitney, Green, SKJ, Wynyard, Baker, Matthews, Fletcher, Allen, Hopkins, and other walk because they were disgruntled. You think he cared about what other recruiters said about him then?

That's a BS option, concocted by fans like you who avoid the actual historical sample size of Cal letting down dozens of previous players. But now, according to you, he suddenly is afraid of what a rival recruiter might say if he -- GASP -- asks a player who refuses to actually play to leave the team?

That's an unrealistic option you're presenting.

Blame him for a kid that really didn't do anything wrong? He took the money. Millions. Only a rafters hypocrite would say he wouldn't do the same.

The problem isn't that the kid took the money, the problem is our coach at some point knew the kid was gonna do it and participated in the fraud anyway. To the detriment of the university he is paid to coach.

First, you got no information. Just an opinion based on zero.

Second, so what?

So you are cal and it becomes clear Washington is lying to you. What do you do? Pack him up and put him on the curb? If he’s enrolled that’s probably not even possible.

You tell him since you will not be here next year you need to help the team you are actually on and play now. If you can't do that fell free to workout somewhere else and prepare for the combine, and defore you say that would kill us in recruiting what has perpetrating this fraud and becoming the laughing stock of the country done to it.

Absolutely. Hell they did press releases teasing he may play the same day he signed NIL deals.

He can be dismissed from the team. Being on the team and enrolled in school are two entirely different things. Cal let an outsider (in Washington) seemingly dictate the situation. Personally I firmly believe this was mostly Cals idea to get sharpes’ commitment. Once it became clear sharpe was eligible and not going to be here next year, to save face cal tried talking Washington into letting him at least play some of which was shot down.

to suggest cal got played as bad as you think he did, portrays someone who has no business being the head man in charge of KY’s basketball program.

1. Who is Washington that people are referring to ? Sharpe and his family/posse are one in the same to me
2. Coaches dismiss players all the time in year…Cal parted ways with Cam Fletcher, Hagans was in same situation, etc. Cal should have smelled a rat from the start…but after the Sharpe family showed their colors…it was a no brained to dismiss him from team. But when you’re trying to be a cool dude instead of doing the right thing….this is an example of what happens

Cal is a desperate man and desperate men make bad decisions. He’s a shell of what he used to be..other coaches, parents, players, and fans know this. The days of 2010-2015 Cal are long gone. He’s clawing and clamoring to get back on top but he’s only floundering in the process and making himself and the program look foolish and incompetent. I agree that you take a chance on the kid.. but as a coach, I decide what you do or don’t do-no player decides whether they play or anything else related to what is best for the team. Giving the players control is Cal’s downfall and the single attribute that will cause the program to continue its decline.

The taking of Sharpe isn’t the problem. It is the mismanagement of the information and how it was presented to the super active fanbase.

If there was NIL $$$ involved can you really call it NIL? That is a slippery slope.

Rarely does anything in life have fault resting on one person's shoulder.

Is Calipari at fault some? Sure, I think mostly from the PR side of things.

However, I put much more of the blame on the Sharpe clan. I think it's pretty clear that he and his handler(s)/family repeatedly lied from day one throughout the entire process.

Why not both? Sharpe is terrified of competing and would rather get by on stress-free shootarounds to showcase his supposedly elite generational talent.

Hey but we got a number1 recruit. None and done for 9 mill a year. I’m not sure dude could coach a high school game
I blame Cal for the intentional deception. He should have just been honest from the start.
