I don't blame Cal. I think he knew it was 50/50 at best, and rolled the dice. I'm critical of Cal, but give him a pass on this one. ...that's unless knew he wasn't playing. You talking about Cal.......or Sharpe???

At some point, Cal knew he wasn't playing. How early he knew that is debatable, but Cal should have played him this year and when he didn't play, he should have dismissed him. Instead, he made jokes about getting there early to watch him warm up. We have a clown show for a coach and our program deserves better. A lot better.I don't blame Cal. Agreed! At some point, Cal knew he wasn't playing. How early he knew that is debatable, but Cal should have played him this year and when he didn't play, he should have dismissed him. what a terrible take
Because the clown had NO. INTENTION. TO. EVER. PLAY. CBB. Period!I guess I need some clarification: IF he graduated in May 2021, as the story is claiming, then why didn't he play at UK this year? He could've been here in the fall, played an entire year of major UK basketball, landed even better NIL deals, and developed even more.
Why didn't that happen?
Yep! Don’t worry, Cal assured the admissions department all was good! The University had to know when he graduated. You don’t just show up at college without a diploma and transcripts.
Cal deserves some blame but he couldn’t of known they were going to lie about when he graduated, now cal should have had a back up plan and gone and locked up nick smithThe amount of UK media trying to spin this is hilarious to me. I’ve seen Rowland about the only one saying it’s BS. TJ Walker is slurping Cal right now.
No, you are correct! Cal won’t give a damn! And you seem content defending the moral -less scumbag! Ignore it is, CaltardLMAO. I'm sure Cal will be heartbroken to find this out
And rightfully so.This will be a hot topic until Cal either wins another Title or leaves. Might as well buckle up.
The dept reviewing this will know but they can't legally pass that information to Cal.The University had to know when he graduated. You don’t just show up at college without a diploma and transcripts.
And therein lies a big part of the problem.LMAO. I'm sure Cal will be heartbroken to find this out
He graduated in may 2021.
Huh?The dept reviewing this will know but they can't legally pass that information to Cal.
What are you talking about? The dept reviewing this will know but they can't legally pass that information to Cal.

What are you talking about?
Umm, they would know if he was eligible, therefor Cal would know he was eligible.People are looking for an excuse to blame Cal, saying he should've known Sharpe's graduation date.
The issue is student documents, such as transcripts, are reviewed by admissions, subsequently compliance, to determine admission. None of this information can legally be relayed to Cal or anyone else at the university.
The only thing that would be relayed to Cal would be whether or not the student is eligible to play.
It would be illegal for admissions to pass information to Cal about anything reflected on Sharpe's transcripts or other documents.
It would be a violation of FERPA.
My first post, that ya'll didn't understand, was simply saying the dept (department) reviewing this (transcripts/diploma) will know but cannot legally pass that information to Cal.
THIS, by God.There is no way in hell you are admitted to a university without that university knowing you graduated in May of 2021.
This makes no sense. Where are you getting this from? Coaches certainly know about grades but they can't know about a graduation date? Huh?People are looking for an excuse to blame Cal, saying he should've known Sharpe's graduation date.

His argument is that FERPA prohibits dissemination of PII, Personally Identifiable Information, from students without their or the parents' consent. This includes educational records. This makes no sense. Where are you getting this from? Coaches certainly know about grades but they can't know about a graduation date? Huh?
What is your deal? There are no winners in this situation for Kentucky or Kentucky fans. Who is happy about any of this but you and Ed987654321? I have no idea why you even bother posting.Congrats to the haters. Is this better than a first round loss to you?
That's ********. Calipari as an employee of the University of Kentucky is permitted to have that information. I don't know where you people get this stuff. The dept reviewing this will know but they can't legally pass that information to Cal.
Notice I didn't mention a thing about Kentucky fans. I agree with you. Never said one thing about Kentucky fans. I just mentioned the haters. They like to pretend to be fans but they are not. They like to hide in the blue mist but they stand out as not being fans at all. What is your deal? There are no winners in this situation for Kentucky or Kentucky fans. Who is happy about any of this but you and Ed987654321? I have no idea why you even bother posting.
That in fact is not true. I'm not even sure that the clearing house gets that. I think al you get is above the line or below the line. Hell I don't think parents are entitled to this information. That's ********. Calipari as an employee of the University of Kentucky is permitted to have that information. I don't know where you people get this stuff.
Of course they know, its a part of the recruiting process. His point is absurd. They may get specific permission but the coach certainly knows. His argument is that FERPA prohibits dissemination of PII, Personally Identifiable Information, from students without their or the parents' consent. This includes educational records.
The problem with his LOGIC is that if the parents objected to CALIPARI knowing Sharpe's graduation date, that should have been a RED FLAG for Calipari and he should have confronted them and resolved the issue one way or another.
So Cal either knew and didn't care, or he didn't know and wanted plausible deniability, or he's just an absolute moron.
That's not how things work. The admissions dept giving Cal information related to his players is a violation of FERPA.That's ********. Calipari as an employee of the University of Kentucky is permitted to have that information. I don't know where you people get this stuff.
So you're telling me that Calipari cannot legally know for certain whether a player graduated in May or December of a year? That's not how things work. The admissions dept giving Cal information related to his players is a violation of FERPA.
Just because Cal is an employee of UK doesn't mean he's permitted to have that information. It stays within the bounds of those who need it to use for admissions purposes, compliance and admissions.
Cal or any other university employee cannot waltz in and ask for student information. Again, it's a violation of FERPA.
Half of my entire work experience has been in university compliance across 2 universities. FERPA is one of the first things you're trained on.
Shoot, if your sibling wanted to know information on your transcripts or any other student documents you've submitted, they're not allowed as it's a violation of FERPA.
FERPA is basically HIPAA but in the realm of higher education.
First off, we’re on the same side. And it’s a good post, but it’s overlooking the main thing just like the rest of the post on this. Cal doesn’t give a **** . He isn’t for UK. Doesn’t matter when or if he knew because he didn’t give it the first thought what would play out. He knows fans for the most part don’t think outside the box, so he lets it snowball to his benefit. UK fans are being played like a fiddle, not Cal. The sooner it’s understood how he works, the better. But it’s getting late in the game, and fans are still arguing over the wrong points. All good points but not THE point, the one that brings change. Oh hell, I give up. Carry on.At some point, Cal knew he wasn't playing. How early he knew that is debatable, but Cal should have played him this year and when he didn't play, he should have dismissed him. Instead, he made jokes about getting there early to watch him warm up. We have a clown show for a coach and our program deserves better. A lot better.
Correct, unless the student relayed it personally. If not that information stays within the department that reviews student documents: admissions, registrar, compliance, etc.So you're telling me that Calipari cannot legally know for certain whether a player graduated in May or December of a year?
So if this is the case (and I truly believe you), how did Eric Bledsoe's transcripts get leaked to the media by Richard Pitino back in 2009? How would the coaches have had access if FERPA is supposed to keep that information under lock and key?Correct, unless the student relayed it personally. If not that information stays within the department that reviews student documents: admissions, registrar, compliance, etc.
From the perspective of the coach all they care about is whether or not the student can play. Compliance telling Cal a student is eligible to play doesn't violate FERPA as it doesn't give out personal information.
Now the story is conflicting dates of his graduation that Cal was made aware of in October, that’s why he didn’t play. Not draft stock, the handlers told his parent the May dates were rock solid so now he’s free to go. So Cal saying all that BS about 100% coming back all year, was BS.At some point, Cal knew he wasn't playing. How early he knew that is debatable, but Cal should have played him this year and when he didn't play, he should have dismissed him. Instead, he made jokes about getting there early to watch him warm up. We have a clown show for a coach and our program deserves better. A lot better.
Here comes the massive PR campaign to save Cal and UK.
