Jay Wright is a terrific basketball coach. If you are trying to tear him down to build Cal up, that’s a losing argument. Every sensible person knows Jay Wright is at the top of the game.

It seems like that’s what you’re saying 🤷‍♂️

No not at all. I'm just as upset with the end result as you and everyone else is.

I just feel like when these things happen, it's not really an indication of what will happen again in the future. Virginia losses to a 16 seed and comes back that very next season and wins a national title.

I like what we did last offseason. We brought in guys like Oscar and Grady through the transfer portal. We supplemented those transfer guys with a good recruit in Tyty.

I feel like if Cal continues to go in this direction, he could have success here.

He hasn’t won a title in 5 years. That’s below the standards of this board.

…his best days are behind him. He’ll never win another one.” <—— Rupp Rafters watching this performance from Jay Wright’s team if he were coaching at UK.
With the injury to one of his best players and a final four appearance? I’d hope not.

It was a very good season for Nova. A final four is always a fantastic season.

How many guys did Virginia bring back the next season after losing to the 16 seed? What kind of continuity did they have that helped them go from a 1 seed losing to a 16 seed to winning a national title?

I agree. It certainly helped them.

Who knows tho. We haven't had anyone announce yet. Maybe we'll get some people back that was unexpected.

But it's not just UVA.

You got coach K losing in the first round in 2012, comes back and makes an elite 8 in 13. Then losses again in the first round in 14 and wins a title in 15.

So while it certainly doesn't take away from what happened to us in 2021. It doesn't change how awful that loss was. It also doesn't mean that 2022 and beyond are going to be awful as well.

Nature of a one and done tournament.

Doesn't mean it will be better either.

I’m not sure what you’re asking me. What was Wrights resume before all his final fours and national championships? That’s your question?
He’s trying to discredit Jay Wright by saying until his national titles and final fours his results were not stellar. He is then going to say well he would have been fired here while completely disregarding that Villanova is not UK. He will then completely disregard Cals career before UK which is a more valid comparison. It’s a complete logical fallacy they all fall into.

This is the problem. Many of us have been pointing out the downturn in recruiting and quality of play for 4 years. And every year that goes by it’s just “welp, nature of the tournament.” It literally doesn’t matter to some of you guys what happens.

Nah of course not.

But I guess that's when you just look at the season as a whole ...........26-8, top 5 offense. I mean we blew the doors off two of these teams that are still playing. And you make a prediction on what is more likely to happen.

Literally NO ONE on the planet aside from us cares that we blew the doors off Kansas and North Carolina in December and January anymore. No one!

I don't get why people keep bringing that up.Clearly those team improved and we regressed badly. It actually makes things seem worse.Hubert fing Davis got his team better prepared than Cal did.

Kansas best player is going nuts.... hate to say it but even though UK beat the breaks off KU they are the better team.. I'm starting to think that night in Lawrence was a perfect storm somehow
Didn't they have a guy out when we played that is back now?

To be a grown man hanging off Cal's balls is a scary thing.
To be a grown man kicking them isn't becoming. I swear a lot of you people have to be women the way you whine and carry on! No disrespect to women, but...

Actually I see much more whining on this board about how mean some fans are to poor Cal.That sums you up well.....

I'm not a 'get rid of Cal' guy at this point but playing this card to act like grumbling is absurd doesn't hit the mark to me either. There is clearly a first 5 years with Cal superperformance and since then has been underperformance. It's the 'well, he was one shot away that year...' or ''it could've happened this other season, but...." All of that is what we were doing with Tubby. It's clear the old Cal formula when he came in with recruiting at that level isn't returning and it's not clear what he's going to be able to do coaching with transfers and a freshman or two coming in. I can't act like there aren't some issues. I mean, the first 5 years we got the toughest draws in the tourney too. Since then we have caught a ton of breaks except for the Monk year. My concern is that it just doesn't feel like he knows where he's going from here with how to do things now.
