Longest we’ve gone in program history without a 1 seed. But you can downplay that as much as you want. It’s also coincided with a final four drought. But I’m sure it means nothing. Nothing means anything to you apologists anymore.
Eh all I really care about is did we have a good enough season to compete for national titles. We are literally right now watching a final four where just 1 team is a 1 seed. Two of those teams happened to be 2 seeds which is a seeding we've had 3 times post 15.
Obviously it's better to be 1 seeds. You not only have an easier road to a final four but you've also proven you're a top team that can contend for a title. But most of them, 2 seeds can say that very same thing.
We were legit title contenders in 17, in 19 and in 21. Obviously that needs to turn into results. But they give out 1 seeds for good seasons so if you are making the argument that we haven't been a 1 seed in so long as if that's some big mark against the program, I'm not sure I agree with that. Seedings are based on what a group of people in a room think. They are largely based on resume and as we've seen in years before there's the perception the SEC isn't as good a power conference as some others and that hurts not only UK but other SEC teams as well.
To me, 2017, 2019 and yes even 2021 isn't the problem here. It's 9-16 in 2020. It's not having good teams in 2016 and 2018 as well. You can't go 50% here. That's the issue.
But if Cal were to say keep repeating 21 or 19 or 17 and kept grabbing 2 seeds would I think he'd make a final four and possibly win another title? Yeah sure why not.
