Chris Holtman has done a solid job at a school that is 100% football. Loves UK. Nice man. No drama. With UK’s resources and his historical knowledge he would be a very solid hire.
Holtmann would have fans clamoring for the current version of Calipari to come back. He's a highly overrated coach who has Ohio State fans wanting him gone.

For those who disagree...go look up his record. It's amazing he got a job at Butler. Been to 1 Sweet 16 at Butler/Ohio State (None at OSU), never won a Conference or Conference Tournament. But yeah, he's the answer to Kentucky because he's a native of the state. Rupp would be empty by January watching a Holtmann coached team run a set for 20 secs down 6 with 30 secs left in game, then he calls a TO-just to run the play and lose by 4 or 3 if you are lucky.

But if he’d won more we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Winning is what matters.
I understand how you feel; however, I have never been accepting of Cal's behavior even when he was winning. You don't make a lot of friends when you call out a coach for his behavior while he is winning. I have the scares to prove it. Lol

Yeah, I’m not that big on Holtmann either. I mean, he has pretty good talent at OSU and they’re very mediocre. Just don’t see him killing it at UK.

The long game should be grooming someone from the program with the understanding that we will have to take our lumps during the process. Otherwise, we will be simply hiring carpetbaggers to come here for the pay and not much else. They would be unlikely to care about the overall health of the program.

I don’t know a lot about Vogel because I DON’T watch the NBA, but being a UK grad and making 2 mil a year in LA, I’d say he would def consider it.

You are probably right, but I don't think he or anyone like him would be good for the program. We need someone who loves UK as much as we do.
I can see that but the problem is Kentucky outside of pope doesn’t have a network to hire from, Kentucky is probably going to have to go after guys like musselman

Scott Drew is the logical choice. He makes roughly half what Calipari makes at Baylor. That program is stuck in Waco, Texas. You ever been to Waco?
With the coming additions of Texas and Oklahoma, the SEC is poised to become the most powerful conference in both football and basketball. The new deal with ESPN will ensure the SEC eats first. Drew would want to be a part of that.
Add to all of that the fact that Kentucky is still a major player (for the moment) on the college basketball scene, has unrivaled facilities and support plus, always pulls the highest TV ratings.
Offer him $6.5-$7.5 million and get him to Lexington.

On a side note, Dwayne Casey is a intriguing choice but, age could be a problem. And he seems to have become more settled as management versus a sideline coach. That's a minus.
He was done wrong in the whole Emery package scandal. Deserves a better legacy.

You are probably right, but it should be done as a stopgap measure because Musselman will likely be someone who bolts to the NBA or someone who's name is always out there and does nothing to stop it. As with the present coach, it is used in negative recruiting.

Kind of would go the way UF is attempting with Todd Golden. See a talented young guy, roll the dice and see if it works. Golden built USF program back into respectability and had winning record/got them to NCAA's after decades of dormant performance.

So not necessarily a staff guy but someone young to groom/grow after proving he has some coaching chops. Aike has mentioned Henderson from South Dakota State as another in that mold.

Many of us laughed about UNC hiring Davis; however, they might be having the last laugh. If Duke's replacement demonstrates that he can handle the job, we will really be in danger of falling behind the other blue bloods.

In fairness, one run to the FF for a young coach isn't that unique. Tubby made his only run his first year at UK. Davis made his run as a second year coach at IU. (There are probably a few more I can't think of at the moment.) I am more interested in what a coach can do in years 4, 5, and 6.

Would LOVE this, but that shipped has sailed. He got wealthy from being screwed over at UK and has been very successful in the cnba. Now with the Pistons making 7 million a year.

And in the UNC Model, Guthridge made 1 or 2 Final Fours at UNC too. Reward for his service. If we're speaking honestly, the guy many on here have been lauding past 2 yrs (Cronin) would've beaten UNC by double digits if he didn't play stall ball the entire game. Cronin plays everything close and you are bound to get bit by that. He did in the UNC game where he clearly had the better team, but lost because he kept game close, didn't play faster and that allowed 1 player (Love) to take over the game.

Cronin chose to lose playing his way-grind it out--rather than just run them off the court when several opportunities to do that within that game presented itself.

Your description of him sounds too familiar for me to want him here.

I get it the reality is there isn’t a clear answer every coach will have some problems that come with them, I’m glad I’m not the one (Barnhart) that would have to make that decision

Wasn't saying that about Cronin/UK--talking of how Hubert was fortunate to get by a superior team in UCLA whose HC made that a loss. Wrote it awkwardly but the point was those who just assume Davis is going to be outstanding..let's see how it ends up. Kevin Ollie won a title too...he couldn't get a job anywhere right now.

Whomever it might be, it is time that UK starts developing a quality coaching tree.

Why?

You are acting as if we haven't had success for generations.

Rupp wasn't home grown
Joe B was
Rick wasn't
Tubby wasn't (was an asst briefly)
Cal wasn't

So we've won 8 titles and 7 of them came from coaches who had no tie to the program.

Carolina is about the only school who has done it and they just so happened to have Roy Williams who is one of the greatest coaches of all time...better than Dean for sure.

Didn't work with Guthridge or Doherty...still don't think it will work with Hubert either.

Gutheridge coached for 3 years so he could get the retirement. In those 3 years he went to two final fours. I’d say that worked out ok. Hubert is in his first year and is in the final four. He already has a top 10 pg locked up for 2023 class and is probably going to land GG Jackson as well. I don’t understand why you don’t think it will work out.

The next time I want a history lesson I will reach out to you; however, at the moment I am more interested in identifying a coach who can make history at UK in a positive way.

That is fair. I mean Hubert could work out. They could have also just gotten hot at the right time. We'll see.

Thanks for reminding me. He would be a great choice. However, considering what happened to him at UK, it is highly unlikely he would want the job.
I don't believe that for a second. I think he would love to have the job. It would be a great way to end his career...national championship. I have seen him interviewed or have read too many articles where he talks about UK to think he wouldn't want the job...The big question would be that he is in his 60s now...would he want to take on another challenge? I could seeing him having an all UK coach staff.

Cal has done that and is not going anywhere so these constant threads are beyond stupid and pointless.

Maybe Phil Jackson wants to come here, or Bill Bellicheck or Sean McVay or maybe Pat Riley is interested.

Dwayne Casey would be my #1 choice.
My second choice...would be Preston Spradlin. Young. Is a great Xs and Os guy...in-game adjustments, and obviously can coach up the talent he recruits and identifies. He knows what UK basketball is all about.
With either one of these guys you would never have to worry about priorities of first and foremost winning for UK and winning SEC and national championships

You said you were thinking about taking a break from here. It’s not going to get any better for at least another 9 months here.
To be honest it isn’t going to get any better until Triple C is gone. UK fans are really restless especially with these results as of lately ( last 7 years)! If anyone is a fan of UK this is the way it’s got to be because a lot of things need changed!

This growing debacle created by CCC is all the evidence required that UK needs a homegrown coach to get us out of this mess. Unfortunately, this isn't likely to happen because UK doesn't develop former players into coaches. We need a head coach who loves the program as much as the fans so that the program regains the top priority instead of CCC and the players. It is clear that Cal has made UK third to him being first and players second. There is zero reason to believe that this will ever change because Cal has never considered the program and fans as his top priority. Unfortunately, there is a zero chance of a former player becoming the coach at this point.
BlH, blah, blah. Another know-it-all that has all the answers. Whine, *****, and whine some more. Be a real fan and support your team, not bash them.
