There are people who say get your priorities right, it's just a game. On the face of it, I agree with that, as I get older and watch my kids get older, it has become less important over time. But the flip side of that is sports is a supposed to be a pleasant distraction from real problems but it's not an escape, it's another reminder of the terrible state of things and one more thing I'm reminded of that I have no control over. The only silver lining is that there are things that people of all the walks of life, political persuasions, race, religion if they are UK fans can completely agree on something and there's some comfort in that.
