I was initially worried about Purdue and their bigs vs Oscar, but they are not a good defensive team at all. We don't lose to bad defensive teams.

Like our path. Tennessee got hosed. That said, Tennessee as a 3 has an easier path than Duke as a 2. A&M got completely hosed. Michigan has no business in this tournament. None. Virginia Tech rolling through the ACC and smacking Duke around to get an 11 seed? K. The committee was pretty bad this year.

* Not sure how anyone major program could hire Sean Miller. Good coach and all but the Florida job is perfect for a slew of good up and comers out there. I mean thats a top-10 job in my book.

* Its selective memory but every time we have had an easy path or one opens for us we seem to screw it up. Tough roads and or a bad draw seem to have always motivated Cal.

* Have enjoyed watching this team all year but it just doesn't feel like they are elite. Good enough to beat anyone but not good enough to overcome another competent team's A game when we aren't at our best.

* Good start to the week by seeing the remnants of a guy that tried to cross 264 at 6am... I know LMPD has had a rough last couple years but is it too much to ask that we put up a tent, cover poor dude up or something?

* So Louisville announcing KP this week I assume? I mean that is the only play for those idiots and they absolutely do not deserve him, but whatever.

* Ol Rob Harris needs to get Bouknight/Berezowitz treatment. One thing I like about Mark Stoops is he doesn't seem to tolerate dumb public crap unless you are a stud hybrid QB/WR/RB or our ace recruiter. As it should be.

~ For a coach who is defense first, with such an older team, we are garbage in the half court.
As an observer who has no clue how Cal actually builds his defense behind closed doors....

Our defense tends to be good only if we have an elite rim protector. I'm sure Cal would prefer that we're better guarding off the bounce, but in years past, it didn't matter because the dribbler would run into a 6'11 pogo-stick.

To that point, Cal also seems to prefer having off-ball defenders lock on perimeter shooters, rather than help/chip the lane. There seems to be no bigger sin in his book than leaving a shooter (or at least that's the excuse for players he doesn't want to play).

Even setting all of this aside, I actually think one of the leading reasons our defense breaks down is Wheeler. He's easily our best on-ball defender, but is ridiculously undisciplined at times.

Edit: I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention that this team is not really built to guard multiple positions. IIRC, somewhere around mid-season, Cal experimented with our perimeter defenders switching everything. It went badly...

So my wife observed a super slow speed police chase outside her office today. She said she's pretty sure the cops could have outran the speed the guy was driving. [laughing] In the ongoing war zone that is Lexington, I'll take any crime story that results in an arrest where no one was harmed.

dang - it looked like 26 police vehicles and a line of 53 praetorian elites lined up in the street behind them - that’s a lot of resources for Schlomo Sam there

Bilas has us, Gonzaga, Kansas and Arizona in his F4. Gonzaga over Arizona. Had UT and Auburn advancing to the elite 8 I think. He's been pretty big on the SEC all year.

Weird, I don't feel as confident as I did after the first UT game but everyone else seems to see what this team is capable of and is disregarding everything either due to injuries or the grind of a legit conference.

We may not be elite but no one else is either.

Hell, I have seen pundits pick a banged up turnover prone Arizona team who was blown out by Colorado two weeks ago,

AND

Kansas lol

as champs.

Maybe the SEC was just that good.

I think more ppl have significantly underrated the depth and quality of SEC coaching than any other factor

For some - i think the idea of SEC football dominance AND being the best basketball conference.....is too much to bear

It’ll be WONDERFUL to beat up on others again as opposed to our conference cousins

That would be worse hire than Mike White. Boynton would probably be fired already if he didn't hire Cade Cunningham's brother.

Gotta think Murray's coach Matt McMahon will get a serious look by these SEC teams with openings. Buzz Williams to LSU doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but Buzz getting snapped up by Florida makes a whole lot of sense if Strickland is looking inside the conference again.

I just can't convince myself that a Rick Barnes-coached team can beat a Jay Wright-coached team in the 2nd weekend.

Scott Hall/Razor Ramon dying sucks. I'm going to flick a toothpick in someone's face today as a tribute.

Kansas has 10 wins this year with margins of 10 points or less, and several of those were 1, 2, and 3 point games. They've squeaked by all year. Just don't see how so many can be picking them as a title favorite.

Doesn't even seem like their own fans are fully buying it. Mostly just a product of a generally easy road.

Literally everybody sucks this year - everyone’s road seems easy - and everyone’s fans are unsure about their own team. This tournament is going to be wild.

I think krazy said it...my initial inclination was to go with Zags, UK, UT, and Auburn.

I just think the SEC was easily the best conference but with the randomness of the tournament it won't work out that way.

I don’t see any of these SEC openings being filled by huge names.

I look for guys like Todd Golden and Murray State’s McMahon to be the ones with the most attractiveness.

That 2019 UT team’s performance in the tournament cemented me never picking a Rick Barnes team to do anything
I know you what you mean. Tennessee lost to a 3 seed as a 2 seed in the S16. Shocking, indeed....

(Assume you meant the 2018 tournament loss to Loyola Chicago....)

It is rare that a school can hire a coach and it be a terrible decision for both the school and the coach. Mike White to Georgia is such an occasion. I can't decide if this is a worse choice for Georgia or Mike White. I'm leaning toward White. At least Georgia got a decent coach.

If White took a job at bad Big 10 school like Tubby, that would make total sense. But why would he want to stay in the SEC but go to a terrible job where no one ever wins -- and just so happens to be your previous spot's biggest rival (in football anyway)?

Is there anyone with “storyteller” as a description of themselves in their LinkedIn profile that isn’t an insufferable person?
No, because everyone who can effectively spin a yarn uses raconteur.

- All these coaching vacancies opening up and if god has a sense of humor, Kenny Payne will end up anywhere but Floyd Street.

I was referring to when they were #1 in the country at one point, had Grant Williams, that Admiral guy, that good point guard, beat our really good team in the SEC tournament and then didn’t get past the sweet sixteen and almost lost in the first weekend. That team was really good and did Jack ****. Not any worse than this years UT squad that people have picking to the final four. Believe they went to overtime vs a 10 seed.
