Yes and reason being, AU has dropped 2 of 4 and barely won at Mizzou and Georgia.
Auburn is trending downwards and it warms my heart.

And that’s a big fat joke. The power 5 teams they played were neutral site games and the rest of their Q1 games are at mid major opponents and mid majors at home.

Meanwhile, we're @ Auburn, @ UT, @ KU. @ Alabama, @ LSU, LSU, UT, Bama, @ Arkansas.

This is what I have been saying, the quad system is flawed.

Zags are 3-1 vs yesterday's Top 16. Avg . win +15.3 points. Loss (-3) to Duke.

UK is 2-3 vs yesterday's Top 16 (although both wins were VERY impressive ie +23 points). Losses (-10 avg.)

You are right though Jeff its not clear cut at all because Baylor has struggled in the 2nd half of the season as well.
That said they have played a tougher schedule than AU and if Baylor wins out which would include wins over KU and Texas I think they have the inside track to the last 1 seed with UK garnering the 3rd #1 hopefully.

Are you going to sit here and tell me that beating SMC and San Francisco, is the same thing as playing @ Kansas, @ Auburn, @ Tennessee, @ Alabama, @ LSU and @ Notre Dame?

Also, the arenas Gonzaga plays in, are like 5-10,000 seat arenas, how tough can the atmosphere possibly be?

If you even try to say that Gonzaga's quad 1 games are even close to the same level as UK's, I'm just going to laugh.

Why wouldnt UK deserve the #1 seed in the south in the above scenerios?

Baylor has injuries, they lost their best front court player for the season and that loss to Alabama is going to hurt.

Auburn would need to lose 2 at least 2 more to fall off the 1 line and Baylor has 5 losses, with a game against KU looming.

This might come down to the conference tournaments.

I agree ... UK should be on the 1 line right now. And of course I'm not going to take the position that GU's games Jan/Feb compare to P5 or Big East. At least against those schools (or equivalent) that you've mentioned.

Gonzaga's "schtick" ... given their conference is to play top level P5 schools OOC (usually neutral made for t.v. games in NBA/NHL arenas) or in the Round of 32, Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four or Title games. In other words, the Zags avoid the bottom half of the P5.

Which make Ken Pomeroy's point even more effective (i.e. Top winning percentages against P5/Big East opponents since '16/'17).

There isn't another option vis a vis conferences to play in, and Gonzaga has done a good job of figuring out how to effectively schedule. But they still have to win games.
