And this —
WHAT. A. JOKE.
Now THAT does piss me off. You play him.
And this —
WHAT. A. JOKE.
My gosh people. It is basketball. It is not like we are sending him to the front lines of a war. It would not have hurt seeing if Sharpe could play a few minutes. When Tyty goes down and when Wheeler goes down and the lead is dwindling and then we go down, I totally understand fans wanting Sharpe. It will be this way the entire season whenever we are in trouble.
Conversely I totally understand him not playing in this game.
Ideally you gradually play Sharpe this season and if he does well, he gets more and more mins as we go along.
Putting him into a game vs the number 2 team in the country on the road, when we don't have Tyty and we don't have Wheeler and everyone expects him to come in and save the game, isn't the right situation IMO.
Fredrick hurt really hurt our bench and I thought either Hopkins or Collins might be ready to play but they just aren't ready at all.Mintz is really streaky and Allen is just having a rough time. It's why so much hope is being put on Sharpe. It's true. We don't have a great bench.
We get absolutely nothing from Allen, Hopkins and Collins.
Ware plays sparingly and when he does he almost never does anything well.
And Toppin while he has moments doesn't have many of them.
This team cannot deal with players going out for significant periods of time. At full strength, this is one of the best teams in the country. But there's a significant drop off once the starters are out for any period of time.

For who? Incoming players get months of practice before they play and even then it takes a bunch of games before they can be relied on to contribute, just because he came a semester early doesn’t make him anymore readyI still think he HAS to play this year, though.
I don’t know what you mean by “for who”? For Kentucky. The team he’s on right now.For who? Could he suck any worse than the rest of our bench right now?And what if he completely sucked?
I mean if the coach says the kid isn't ready to play, he's not ready to play. That's good enough for me.
And this —
WHAT. A. JOKE.
He was responding to me saying he should play this YEAR, not this game. I think you agree with me on that.Exactly.
Heck even our superstar freshmen took several games to get into the flow.
We didn't lose this game because Cal refuse to use Sharpe.
I don't think anyone was intentionally trying to stall in this game.
What happened was Tyty got hurt and once that happened, our offense stalled out. We weren't trying to play that way, it's just what happened. There was no movement without the ball, no nothing. Just Wheeler pounding the ball into the ground for 25 seconds.
The most consistent lineup that’s been played the past two weeks consisted of tyty, Grady and mintz…isn’t that 3 shooters? If you’re team only has three total shooters, since wheeler and brooks don’t count, then how often can u put all three on the floor at once? Use your headWe are too easy to defend because Cal wont keep 3 shooters on the floor .
Same old tired, hackneyed arguments you Cal slurpers always use.And what if he completely sucked?
I mean if the coach says the kid isn't ready to play, he's not ready to play. That's good enough for me.
For who? As in who does it benefit? Like why does he HAVE to play when he hasn’t been given the same amount of prep time as a usual incoming player? What about his ability means he can come in and dominate given 10% of the prep time of everybody else?I don’t know what you mean by “for who”? For Kentucky. The team he’s on right now.
LOL ,, you put Allen in with Hop and Collins , man those guys actually get in games , then say Ware plays " sparingly" I think Ware should in with Hop and Collins and just leave Allen out of this mess .. he doesnt play . But you are correct ware is no where near SEC material .It's true. We don't have a great bench.

Well … I didn’t say dominate. I mean more to contribute. Not dominate. I don’t put those kind of expectations on the young guys. I do however think a dynamic player and projected top 10 pick should be able to contribute for 10-15 minutes per game, if nothing else to spell the high minutes guys. For who? But he’s not projected that high based on what he can do now, it’s based on the possibility of what he can do in the future. So his draft status is irrelevant to what he can contribute to this team now.Well … I didn’t say dominate. I mean more to contribute. Not dominate. This is our only chance to see him as I don't care how he does in the NBA next season. But he’s not projected that high based on what he can do now, it’s based on the possibility of what he can do in the future. So his draft status is irrelevant to what he can contribute to this team now.
Well, okay then. I hope he’s a really good practice player then because that’s likely all we’re ever going to see from him.But he’s not projected that high based on what he can do now, it’s based on the possibility of what he can do in the future. So his draft status is irrelevant to what he can contribute to this team now.
Hell just froze over. I agree with you 1000%Is absurd. Your best player goes out with injury and the whole offense changes.
Good growth lesson.
#2 team wasn't ish until then
So then you’re really only wanting him to play so u can see him play? That’s why I asked the question who does it benefit, if u only want him to play so u can say u saw him or get a good look at him those aren’t good enough excuses to put a player out there who most likely isn’t readyThis is our only chance to see him as I don't care how he does in the NBA next season.
And in my opinion that’s a mistake. Auburn was ripe to be pressured today. I think their guards have shaky handles. But when Cal only plays 7 or 8 guys it makes it hard to pressure. Not saying Hopkins, Collins, or Allen should have played a lot today because they haven’t been used enough to be prepared. But Cal does not and will not ever use his best attribute. Being able to recruit a full bench of tremendous athletes that can pressure opponents and wear them down.Collins and Hopkins really hasn't gotten into games lately.
His last 5 games was
DNP
3 mins
3 mins
5 mins
DNP
Hopkins last 6
2 mins
6 mins
15 mins
4 mins
1 min
1 min
Both plus Allen basically never get used.
lol noBut he tosses Hopkins and Ware out there.

No, we want to WIN GAMES, and since we're just about out of guards, it would seem that him playing MIGHT give us a chance to win, and MIGHT is better than WON'T which is what we'll see if he DOESN'T play.So then you’re really only wanting him to play so u can see him play? Oscar is our best player and we don't get him the ball enough.
At this point I want to see him play so Cal can prove that he intends to play him at all.lol no
Exactly.
If Sharpe's first college experience was this game, and he was overwhelmed by the moment and lost, would the "objective" eeyores on the site have been happier with Cal?
Of course not. They'd just be crapping on Cal AND calling Sharpe a fraudulent five star on top of it.

Don’t you think it’s a little unrealistic to expect someone who has never played college basketball before to be able to help us win games after 3 weeks of practices? Again, incoming players usually get months of prep and even then they look like trash in the first few months of the seasonNo, we want to WIN GAMES, and since we're just about out of guards, it would seem that him playing MIGHT give us a chance to win, and MIGHT is better than WON'T which is what we'll see if he DOESN'T play.
Didn’t the Stokes kid for Tennessee do exactly that a while back? Maybe I’m remembering wrong.Don’t you think it’s a little unrealistic to expect someone who has never played college basketball before to be able to help us win games after 3 weeks of practices? These are 5 star guys. Something is wrongI'm so on the fence with this. I do agree that Hopkins and Collins should play more. Tho I have to say that neither has given me much confidence they would be any good.
Hopkins played 1 min and the only thing I can remember him doing was fouling on a 3 point shot.
I do agree in general tho that Cal should use the bench more. As the season has gone on, Hopkins and Collins mins have dwindled to the point of nothing. They have basically been forgotten about.
I looked it up and you’re right he didDidn’t the Stokes kid for Tennessee do exactly that a while back? Maybe I’m remembering wrong.
Why is that? He seems to be similarly skilled to Jackson last year. Feels like these kids not only don’t get in games but don’t get much work in practice either.Collins definitely can’t play right now.
