If Cal doesn't play Sharpe soon...

There might be a time and circumstance to fire Cal by this ain’t it. There’s a reason teams practice 5-6 weeks before the season starts and Sharpe deserves his time as well.
He won't be fired, of course. But it would be grossly irresponsible if he doesn't play. This team is borderline NCAA 5-7 seed right now. If he plays we could be a 2.

...He should be fired.

Sharpe is the best recruit we've had in a long time and we clearly need another guard.

There is ZERO excuse not to play him at least 10 minutes per game to see what he can do.

Don't give me that lousy 'fitness' excuse. He doesn't have to play 39 minutes. He can contribute and I'm sure he's better than Hopkins/Collins/Allen/Ware three of whom have been playing during those minutes where our lead shrinks.

Don't give me that lousy 'BuT hE nEeDs To LeArN TeH OfFenSe!' excuse unless you can actually articulate what offense we currently run other than GOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RUUUUUUUUUUUN!

Don't give me that lousy 'but he needs to learn defense' excuse after I just mentioned Hopkins/Collins/Allen/Ware.

On the other hand, if Cal plays Sharpe NOW and he gets integrated into the lineup and starts contributing, even as little as 8/4 a game in, say, 15 minutes, we could be a FF team THIS YEAR.

Hopefully Cal is just keeping his cards close but IMHO Sharpe should be playing next week.

But I'm suspicious that Cal doesn't want him to play for fear of Sharpe exploding and making Cal look bad because he didn't get to 'train' him first.
Idiotic. Hateful. Misinformed. Blithering.

Sorry, that was the most positive response I could make. That post makes a U6 fan look like a basketball super genius

What offense do we run?
It always amuses me when some fans make the claim that Calipari "doesn't run offense" or ask " What offense do we run?". Coaches have different names for offensive sets and concepts. So instead of giving you a name like Princeton offense or dribble drive motion offense I am going to provide a video which is very informative as to what sort of sets coach Calipari runs.

By the way when coach yells "Go" and "Run" he is not calling sets. What Calipari wants is the players to sprint up the court with maximum effort until they are exhausted and then to sub themselves out. Even College level athletes need this at times as some will slow down without even realizing it.

Hope you and others find the vid helpful.

Yeesh. I rest my case. One of the most inconsistent offensive schemes out there. Pretty much sputtered against Duke and ND. Although, the video shows so many Quickley scores it might as well be named the "Quickley" offense. Too bad he's not here anymore.

Please help I'm confused. What case are you making? In your OP you stated, "Don't give me that lousy 'BuT hE nEeDs To LeArN TeH OfFenSe!' excuse unless you can actually articulate what offense we currently run other than GOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RUUUUUUUUUUUN!". Now you state you understand and recognize what UK is running but find it "One of the most inconsistent offensive schemes out there.". If you know the sets Cal is running, why do you not critique them instead of saying all Cal does is say go and run?

Also, I forgot to address your statement "But I'm suspicious that Cal doesn't want him to play for fear of Sharpe exploding and making Cal look bad because he didn't get to 'train' him first." What sort of logic is this? I get that you don't like Cal. That's fine and by all means say it as much as you like. However, when you just make up insane fantasies of what Calipari thinking I have to call you out on it.

Now off topic a bit. We all get caught up in the "tribal culture" social media from time to time. I have been just a guilty as the next man. It's my opinion that you seem caught in that rabbit hole at the moment and could use a break from sites such as this. Food for thought at least.

If they keep playing like they have been, I say keep him on the bench learning and use him next year. This team is getting better. I think LSU just had our number and we had a off night. , and still had a chance to win!

We are not short a guard, what we are short on is a consistent 4, neither Toppin or Brooks are good enough to be starting at UK. If we had somebody like a Winston Bennet or Walter McCarty or even Scott Padgett we would be a title contender.
Adding Sharpe could help at the 4 if Cal will play a 4 guard lineup.

If Sharpe is as good as we all think he is, then the best five players regardless of position would be Wheeler, Washington, Sharpe, Grady, and Tshiebwe.

Positionless basketball use to be Cal’s calling card. Practice what you preach coach.

Positionless basketball doesn’t just mean playing a Power Forward at the Small Forward spot. Three bigs won’t work in this day and age, it’s not the 1980’s. Four skilled guards together around a dominant big is the way to go.

Size matters, but speed kills.

I hear ya but lets be honest, we could not ask for a better shot at the end of regulation. This is cal’s strength weve seen it since at least 2015 against Wisconsin. Flat comical, simple HOF recruiter no doubt. Bench Coach not even close, imo. Original poster nailed it

You are getting goofier with each passing day. Give the kid a chance to acclimate and then see what happens. He will play but when Cal decides, not you. No one wants to win more than Cal except for maybe, me.
"No one wants to win more than Cal"...I wish I believed that. That's not the most important "thing" for Cal. He's said so himself...straight from the horse's mouth.

Why don’t you take your tired politics to a political board and let those of us who wish to discuss Kentucky basketball do so absent your penetrating political insight.
Because this dude worships at the altar of Politics. He views everything through his political lens and is a reductionist. In his mind, everything and everyone can be placed into categories and their worth determined based on such categories.

Here’s how his reductionism plays out with regard to UK (his logic, if you will):

Calipari kneeled.

All who dislike him simply dislike him on account of him kneeling.

Brilliant, huh?

And what would you know about it? Nothing. You got no data. Both of you are just KY bashing random posters that come to a Kentucky fan site ripping our coach and our program as far as I can see. You expect not to get challenged when you rip on the cats here? Really?

Go to the crack head, err U6, site. You’ll fit right in over there. They love you for what you do. You are U6 hero’s. Or maybe the Auburn site with their wimpy little passive aggressive fawning thing they do. When you sound like a hater from another team, that’s a clue something is bad wrong in your approach.

I don’t understand the argument that Sharpe contributing 8/4 a game is going to magically make us a FF contender. Brooks often has a stat line that ends up being 8/4 a game. Is Sharpe’s 8/4 a game somehow magically better than some other player contributing 8/4 a game?

This is beside the fact that just adding Sharpe does not add more minutes to the game. He’s going to take whatever’s left of Allen’s minutes and then siphon from Brooks and Mintz. 8/4 probably doesn’t even offset the loss of production we’d see from Mintz and Brooks having less minutes. Sharpe is likely better than Brooks or Mintz—8/4 would be extremely underwhelming.

With that said, I can agree with the overall sentiment that Sharpe needs to play. Unless Cal has some magic spell over Sharpe that guarantees he will come back next year, he needs to get on the court. I was disappointed he didn’t play last night.

I said this many times, you are not a UK fan. You want what best? That’s complete crap. Let’s start. You got 25 million to buy him out? No? What are you blubbering about then. You don’t want what best. You are crying. You got no plan to fix what you are wailing about.

You want whats best? How about years like 59 to 77 or 79 to 95? I know the tradition. You cry about something we never were.

Take your whiny crap and move along. You are doing nothing but defending one of your little hater buddies. The program is recovering. Only a fool doesn’t see that. KY is fine. Hell we were thrashing the best team in the country until we lost 2 key players. Now that upset you, I am sure.

When it comes to March, none of those dudes are getting substantial minutes unless injury or significant foul trouble occurs. Cal is going to stick with mainly 7-8 guys, meaning Sharpe, if he is in fact part of that shortened rotation, will be mostly eating up Mintz and Brooks' minutes if he is to see any clock. Probably not so much Toppin's because he just gives you something different than everybody else.

Not sure you read my whole post. I agree that he should play no matter what, I would just hope that he's better than an 8/4 guy. I don't think that level of production changes the team all that much. He may be able to get those numbers more efficiently than Mintz or Brooks, but that only helps so much.

He's not going to play. So it's a moot point. Cal gaslighted the entire fanbase. Not sure if UK Admin knows the truth though.

I'll reserve full judgment until after the Vandy game, but after last night it is not looking good. Very disappointing. I would not care if he stayed and played next year, but I decided years ago to not put any stock into recruits and players about committing/draft decisions. I just assume they all leave or commit elsewhere. Helps my sanity as a fan as unfortunate as that may be.

In my opinion, Cal is not a "serious" coach...in fact, I don't think he can coach...at least not effectively. So my reference to Cal as the Boi Cal or Cal Boi implies my lack of respect for the clown. Not much more than that. I wish I honestly felt differently...but I don't and it's taken me several years to get here b/c I was a fan at one time.

Certainly not here to fawn over Calipari and act like all is well with the Program. It's not. It's a great place for UK fans to talk and exchange thoughts and ideas about the Program. It's a place to ferret out news and commentary that might be backchanneled before hitting other news media outlets. Those type of things. How about you...why are you here?

Stop reading after that lol.

758 wins - 235 losses (.763) suggests otherwise.

355-97 (.785) at UK
Absolutely...as long as he out talents the competition. Now the OAD doesn't work like it used to...see the results post-2015. He either can't coach, won't coach, or too stubborn to adjust to the condition in which he finds himself and a condition into which he's dragged the Program. He's stuck on WHOLESALE OAD which he probably thinks he invented and perfected so his ego won't allow him to give up on it. The game and recruiting has adjusted to his early success and has caught up with him and now he can't out-recruit the competition for the best one-year players. Our best players now are transfers. Of course, IF he made adjustments to "wholesale" OAD and actually recruited a mixture of OAD and good multi-year talent, who could fault him for that? He's still stuck on trying to make wholesale OAD work but the true OAD-type talent is committing to other schools now. He's going to have to adjust or continue to lead UK into lower levels of mediocrity. Criticizing fans like myself who hold this opinion won't change reality. It might make you feel better but it won't change things. Cal doesn't care about wins and losses beyond how they may affect draft status. He's said these things himself. So who wins and who loses? Certainly not the Program, Tradition, nor the Fans...not if you truly care about Championships and sustaining a great college basketball tradition. Unless you're blind...the recent results speak for themselves. Do I wish it were different? Well...yes I do but I'm not so deluded to ignore reality and "wish" it weren't so. I hope he can fix the mess he's created but I don't think he's wired to do it...for many other reasons.
