WKU is the replacement game

Seems like Zags and OSU were the closest P5 teams to saying yes. Cal even offered home and home to both.

is what it is.
Yea nothing we can do. Can’t force someone to play us and don’t blame them for not. Just a bummer to lose a rivalry game and replace it with a game that doesn’t help us seeding wise whatsoever.

Also feel bad for the fans that bought tickets expecting it to be Louisville.

Most of the tornadoes were December 10th. Bowling Green was probably the 11th.
I live in Bowling Green. We were confirmed to have been hit by 3 tornados EF-3 and 2 EF-2 Tornados 3 hours after Mayfield was hit by theirs. Many people don’t realize how bad Warren County got hit. 17 confirmed deaths including a dear friend of mine that we buried this past Wednesday. Bowling Green was hit as hard as anybody but hasn’t gotten as much press as Mayfield due to the EF-5.

I considered Morehead for a bit. But that would literally have put me like 4 hours from home and I was helping my Mom with my Dads issues (they were just starting up). So I just didn’t feel comfortable being that far if something happened.
Love the area. I have lots of family there going back 170 years; wound up at EKU though.

Feel bad for the people who shelled out big money for UL game to have it replaced with garbage WKU and have no option for a refund.
Honestly, ignoring that WKU just beat U6. WKU may be better than U6. I think end of year they could be a bubble team if not win their Conf tourny. No it's not replacing with a Duke or Villanova or Gonzaga, but I think WKU is like adding an NIT level team.

I saw the tornado hit Bowling Green on TV. I was just so scrambled that night I don't know if that was after midnight or before, not that it matters. I think it was barely after.

Sorry about your friend.

As a resident of Western Kentucky, I love this. Bremen strong!
I went through Bremen today. The tornado had to max out there. I've never seen so much devastation. It is not as widespread as Dawson springs but it is extreme where it hit. 3/4 mile or so path.

I'm all for helping the tornado victims. The game itself I hate. **** Rick Stansbury and those militant Western fans.

My Mom was a prof at Austin Peay when I was a kid. I remember loving the basketball games. The cheerleaders would chant:

Let’s go Peay! Let’s go Peay!

Would have much rather played Louisville. Play a hated rival vs playing a talented mid major team that can beat you if your not on your game. Ask Lousiivlle.

Heck. I remember Matt’s. I still live in Henderson. Those were fun times. I wonder if Al is still alive.
I’m originally from Henderson and live across the river now unfortunately with a bunch of Hoosiers. I don’t know if Al is still living or not. My dad used to tease Jimmy for wearing the hat like Bear Bryant on the sidelines. I sure miss those fun times.

I like the matchup. I’m a lifelong Wildcat with a degree from WKU. I was a student at WKU and in Rupp when Chris Marcus and Patrick Sparks beat Tubby and the Cats in November 2001. I wore a UK hoodie and a WKU hat to that one.

I’ll be wearing all blue on Wednesday. Taking my dad to his first game in a long time. I’m bummed we’re not playing UL, but this isn’t as bad as Bellarmine would’ve been.

Cats better come to play. WKU plays almost exclusively zone. Better me knocking down perimeter shots.

Tornado relief is nice, game is blah. Might as well have played Alice Lloyd or Sue Bennett, same difference.

There was a thread on this board Saturday afternoon proclaiming WKU the best team in the state. Now that we’re going to be playing them, there are posts claiming they’re not a worthy opponent lol. I swear some of you have no idea what’s coming out of your mouths next.

As others have said I like the tornado relief part but not the opponent. It's one of those games where if you win you were supposed to and if you lose its a bad loss. I'd rather play instate teams in place of other mid majors and not a big rival.

It may have been the best we could come up with or it might have been Cal just being full of it saying they couldn't get anyone else. We already know he doesn't really want an early season true road game for his next batch of one and dones.

I'm curious that if we promised a road game next year and followed it with a neutral site game the year after, would we have gotten a bite? That's the same deal we were going to do with Michigan but in a different order. That plus the good publicity for your school for helping with the tornado relief should have gotten a bite I would think.

We better win this one or Cal will never hear the end of it from a lot of fans

There were lots of folks confirming we had tried multiple other schools. Cal wasn’t blowing smoke this go round.

I like it! WKU is pretty good. We better come to play.
They have a 7ft 5in center which is the tallest player in college basketball this year. He is very agile and has good ball skills. I can't wait to see him and oscar play each other. I watch them beat ul.

It’s ridiculous and people complained we don’t play in state schools and that they expect us to get Gonzaga or someone on 3 days notice of Christmas week to come play a home game. SMH.

Bad week and a half man. It’s been rough down here.
I feel ya Mayfield native myself. The destruction was so widespread. It was a category 4 bordering on 5 from Fulton to Muhlenberg county! 3/4 of a mile wide when it hit Mayfield. We lost 21 people here. I sadly lost a friend Robert Daniel jail guard at the candle company here in Mayfield and a friend in Muhlenberg county. Matt Ferguson. Just the saddest situation possible for almost half the state

Sorry for your and their loss, sad that they were working for a nice small company to meet demand for Christmas and that happened. Never seen anything like it in December this late, I hadn’t heard about the storms but I remember thinking that day it’s so hot that a massive front had to move in around here.
