Awesome, enjoy being 19-13 next year and failing to get your big guy drafted again. Do you think he’ll go low level pros to get out of college basketball or transfer to LSU in 2022-2023?

Kentucky flat out turned him down. I think Calipari is a jackass for doing so, but it’s spitting in the face of our mercy to come here after our staff told Cockburn to go back to Illinois.

Kentucky will eventually right it’s ship, Illinois will always be mediocre.

Durens skill set fits an archaic offense and defense. He's an old style 6'9.5" center with crazy long arms but no outside shot and a questionable motor. If anyone was expecting AD 2.0, he's miles from that.
Was anyone expecting AD 2.0?

I was just expecting a top 2 future pick, because, ya know, Cal wins almost 10 games MORE per year when he has one of those on his roster. It matters, but I do like this conglomerate of future G-League talent. The Sweet Sixteen appearance will be a nice response to a 9 win season, and I'm not even being facetious.

This one can. lol

He hasn't been lighting it up since he's been hired at Memphis. Once his recruiting runs dry, and it will, he will be fired.

He's bad at what he does. FedEx is certainly delivering in recruits.
Well then we should use our resources to deliver in recruits. You'd think we didn't have Nike backing our play by the way some of our fans write on this message board.

He’s a younger, black coach that identifies with the kids. That’s hard to recruit against. We also have a log jam…if you want to play a ton of minutes, you can in Memphis.
There is no logjam. Ware is a project. Collins is a project. Oscar is a solid, but not elite big.

There was tons of minutes at UK. The logjam excuse is just more deflection. We got outpitched. Again.

Don’t get all the angst over not taking Kofi. Great player, yes. But did you see Illinois and him get completely shut down last year in the tourney. He was totally ineffective.

Sad and misinformed, I dare you to go look at Kofi’s stats for both NCAA Tournament games last year and get back with me.

It’s open season in college basketball and we’ve got knives in a gunfight. I hope the CFk2 fans, Cal, and the rest that advocated for the NIL are never forgotten when UK is unable to retain its position in the future. If you ever said “I don’t see a problem with them making on their likeness” please don’t vote in national elections. It’s a scary thought.

I can tell you unequivocally schools like Memphis have deep pockets, are very corrupt, and do not care if they play in dark areas. If Kentucky continues to recruit like it’s 1997 and believes they’re gonna kill it with a wall of NBA players in a practice facility or Cals draft record - you’re in for a rude awakening.

Many have literally advocated against the betterment of their own university basketball team and don’t care. Why on earth would ANY UK fan advocate against a the methods that made us the greatest program of all time?

It will eventually come to light what Memphis is actually doing right now and I’m pretty sure the “get around” of the rules to do with big name money being directly involved is going on at other programs too. We’ll see soon enough.

Hiring Larry Brown was no accident. He’s not just there for X’s and O’s or recruiting. The fact that people actually believed that blew my mind.

Some of the same fans telling us we don't need Duren were telling us we didn't need Bridges, and RJ, and Brown, and Tatum, and Zion, and Hardy, and Reddish, and Wiseman, and Cade, and Isaac, and Young, etc.

Just remember, folks, "we're going to be fine." We don't need elite players.

Same group that said you don’t need experience to win. Just raw elite talent and SWAGGY Cal.

I feel like UK fans are going to get played by a lot of recruits in the future. They are going to get their twitter following up so they can get big NIL deals.

I like Toppin and think he will be good but just don't see the star type thing some are seeing.I think that's more wishful thinking because of his brother.
I agree 100%
I've been on record saying he will be around 7/8 on depth chart.
That being said he and Hopkins have to be big for us to be great. I believe it will be Hopkins. Alot of what that kid does reminds me of mash coming in as a freshman

Unbelievable to me how many people believe this “Cal turned down Kofi for Duren” nonsense. Just a completely fabricated story that y’all took and ran with. You’re telling me I was on this board saying we wouldn’t get Duren, and somehow Cal didn’t realize it too?
That's all this board is good for
Hear one made up story and that's the gospel for years
Lol. Just like cal only cares about the draft and not about winning titles . Lol it amazes me there's a grown man out there that has this little of common sense

Kofi was not a lock for UK and Oscar didn't transfer for sub minutes. Oscar is our starter and will be fine on a team that has strength in the back court. Oscar is big and wide inside on a tam that has good shooting range. Ware will be good for 15 minutes a game and with scoring and shooting at other positions, the 5 spot can focus on low post duties of rebounding and defense. Key is play in the 4 spot. Ware needed a year to develop but he is going to surprise as a contributor.

Oscar couldn't start for West bygod Virginia nor play for Huggy Bear. Yet we are going to be ok with a 6'7" center who can't stay out of foul trouble.

I Love your optimism. Sure hope you are right on this one.

Just wondering, but why is that "weak"?
Because Cal is basically either waving a white flag or a red flag concerning this year's collection of players.

Basically letting fans know they "may" not be great, but he likes them anyway. We will soon start hearing that they are all great kids and they really care about the team and winning. We are just young and inexperienced. Just wait till we put them through Camp Cal and "tweak" a few things.

We will be fine. You guys are crazy. Bunch of basketball Bennies.

IMHO, Duren has shown himself to be far too much of a me-first type of guy. He could have committed to somebody 2 months ago and taken part in 8 weeks of practice with his team, but instead chose to hype himself up and be a drama queen.

And Kofi wasn't much better.

My gut feeling is that the current roster has great team chemistry and guys who are all on the same page. And I think this team has enough talent that it doesn't need a superstar, because it has a lot of guys who can step up on any given night.

Even though some on here just can't handle the truth, Cal is no longer the "cool" coach that he once was with these 5 star recruits.

Since Drake bailed and WWW rode off into the sunset, Cal has just become a crabby old coach that screams and hollers at these superstar heroes.

Do you realize that these kids were in the first or second grade when Cal won his one and only championship?

Can you just imagine what kind of cut up video opposing coaches can splice together of Cal's sideline antics and how he interacts with his players?

Pretty sure there are some parents and players that just don't want to deal with Cal along with sacrificing minutes, shots, and scoring to play in an outdated offense that does nothing to prepare them for the NBA.

Cal's run as top recruiter is over in my opinion until he can show something on the court that makes players want to come to KY.
This pretty much sums it up right here. One more thing I might add is how UK is still a must have offer for the top players but now we're simply getting played for having our name on these kids lists. Terrific.

Several were determined it was going to be Miami

Was pretty clearly not going to be UK, which is the most important thing.

And yes it's amazing the case against penny is still pending. They have an actual smoking gun where he paid actual money himself. This is maybe the easiest case they had the last 30-40 years

I don't understand the whole Penny is a "players coach" BS, hell, Cal has put 40 kids or so in the league, think he knows players at this point!
Yea Penny hasn't got in to the NCAA tournament yet and has had the talent to do so, Duren had to say something, nothing would have been better than that. Lot's of coaches are players coaches, that's a silly thing to say turning down a chance to play for a hall of fame coach. I never though he would come here anyway.
