Missing on the top guys has become a major problem with Cal.Hopefully it changes next season but I have doubts.
Even though some on here just can't handle the truth, Cal is no longer the "cool" coach that he once was with these 5 star recruits.

Since Drake bailed and WWW rode off into the sunset, Cal has just become a crabby old coach that screams and hollers at these superstar heroes.

Do you realize that these kids were in the first or second grade when Cal won his one and only championship?

Can you just imagine what kind of cut up video opposing coaches can splice together of Cal's sideline antics and how he interacts with his players?

Pretty sure there are some parents and players that just don't want to deal with Cal along with sacrificing minutes, shots, and scoring to play in an outdated offense that does nothing to prepare them for the NBA.

Cal's run as top recruiter is over in my opinion until he can show something on the court that makes players want to come to KY.

I didn’t expect Duren and I absolutely wish they would have gone for Kofi. But he and Tshiebwe are both too good not to play and I absolutely GUARANTEE that some of the people furious that we didn’t get Kofi would have been complaining about Cal running an archaic offense with 2 big centers and that it’s a guard’s game today.

When do we start eating first again? I'm tired of getting b#$ch slapped by Penny f%%king Hardaway for these great big guys! Wisemen and now Duren this **** is getting old! Cal should've took an All American in Kofi when it was presented to him!

Because we could have had Kofi but Cal goes all in on a player that isnt going to pick us and we all knew it but Cal. He found out today and sends out that “I like my team” same garbage as all the other years when he can’t close the deal.
Same story every summer
Cal likes his team
Team would have been much better with kofi

Oscar, Brooks, Toppin, Collins, Ware, Hopkins. Size, experience and young talent.

Kentucky fans have no reason to cry over the front court, especially when the team was explicitly designed around the frontcourt/perimeter —you know, the up-to-date game everyone here has been agitating for.
None of these can carry kofis jock

Cal needs to quit with the "I like my team" crap. That makes him sound like a rec center playground supervisor. He's done a lot of positive things after the debacle that was '21 season, but this passive Jackie Moon "ELE" bull**** needs to go.
Cal needs to go especially when he winds up running the same old offense

Maybe they don’t want to sacrifice their skill set to play an archaic defense and offense and get yelled at constantly? Just maybe. These types are going to the nba regardless.
Cant be,cal is always ahead of everyone else

He literally has to deliver on what should be a monster haul in '22 based on not just where UK is on guy's lists but where they are in decision making process. UK whiffs on the guys they are on now, you are 100% correct.
Would you please elaborate especially about lively
He is the most important recruit

I think watching duren pick Memphis is gonna hurt the 22 class for UK. It will give pause to the guys many here are counting on. I could a guy like Aharón putting his decision off to see how the NIL plays out now for these guys. Not to mention 2 of the top 2022 players are now off the board so the 5th player in the class is really the caliber of currently being 7th. This was a massive loss for our program in effort to bounce back from last years debacle. Cal can like his team all he wants but he hasn’t seen the teams preseason ranked ahead of us play so he likes what he sees but it’s not relative to anything else.

I like our team too. What’s wrong with that?
Can you really not see how lame it was for Cal to tweet about how he likes his team the way it is on the day Duren chose Memphis over Kentucky? It’s like a guy saying that he’s glad that he was rejected by the new girl he was desperately chasing, because he actually likes his old girl better. At best, it looks like Cal was trying to do damage control, which just acknowledges that he was damaged by Duren and Penny. It would have been much better to say nothing and just go about his business, if he really believes that losing Duren doesn’t hurt.

it is a massive hit to cal when he can afford any more hits. Duren goes to gleague ok. But losing duren to Memphis and if duren rakes in 7 figures for NIL cal will never land another top 3 guy. Barney isn’t gonna let these guys make big nil money

FedEx paying the big $.
Get ready NIL has opened the door for schools with major Corporate backing to dominate. Get ready UK is going to struggle to get guys like Duren. I think many schools who were after thoughts before will become the new place to be. These kids do not care about tradition or championships, the only thing that will matter is getting paid.

I think Barnhart wants to move slowly and ease into the NIL payment system, but he needs to get over it. College basketball is changing quickly, and Kentucky needs to move fast to stay at the top. Barnhart should be helping the players make deals to profit while at Kentucky. Unfortunately, he might want to keep the players separated from the big donors, because he may prefer that the big donors give their money to UKAA instead of paying the players. Incidentally, UKAA pays Barnhart’s massive salary.

People here complained because all we had were one a done’s and now that we have a ton of experience, they complain because we miss on a one and done that would take time away from a multi year player. The IQ here is less than 50 and the hypocrisy is epic.
You are missing the point. Cal literally has to have elite talent to win big, as in making FF. This years team has no elite talent. Unless Cal changes his coaching strategy, sweet 16 is best we can hope for.

Tells you a lot about how some top recruits feel towards playing in college: it's a neccesary evil.

Unfortunately, it seems that pre-2016, a lot of the top recruits needed a guy like Cal to get them to the NBA. But that's just not the case anymore.

At the same time.. the top5 are going to go where it works for them, not to where it helps a college fanbase win a title. And that's never been as prevalent as it is today.

People don't understand this has been proven over the years! Is he really going to change it is Cal we're talking about and I haven't seen anyone as stubborn as him.

I’ll say this, if we get knocked out of the tournament due to foul trouble down low or poor post play then Cal should feel a bonfire under his ***. There’s just no excuse not to have gotten Kofi. Dude practically was begging to come and Cal wouldn’t even take a damn phone call from him.
That has been my point all along. What if Oscar gets in foul trouble ( he will)? Or what if there's an injury? Already had one player be out for surgery.

It's one thing to say when you have a great team, guys who share/sacrifice, but this "they are great guys. etc....." and saying it every year no matter what......it's meaningless. One thing everyone can accept is warranted praise or criticism but empty praise falls on deaf ears just like yelling at players for no reason does.

Cal's got to ditch the canned cliches and come real again. Or move aside and let a real dude get in his chair. The staff he's got now will get him big time talent and that hopefully starts showing up in commitment column by end of Month, but getting hustled and outworked by someone who has a unique and individual pitch rather than a canned sell to each guy.....it's tired.
Cal used to he a step ahead of these guys....now he looks a couple steps behind.

They aren't the same type of player. Kofi is a very good big but IF Cal really wants to change his style of play he doesn't fit the mold.
I agree with all of that, but now it all hangs on Oscar never getting in foul trouble during the tourney and hopefully not missing any games for an injury.

Cal better hope Oscar pplays like an AA this year.

No player wants to come here and listen to Cal yell at them for 40 minutes or possibly be a short leash player while Cal plays his favorites. His antiquated offense and lack of bench coaching will keep the top guys from coming here. He is too stubborn and players notice how we play. I am truly anxious to see who commits to us for next year. I hold out no hope.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but I’ve never liked the “eggs in one basket” approach. We are dangerously thin in the post. I love the perimeter depth we have but it’s gonna be a problem when Oscar gets in foul trouble, IMO. He’s literally the only competent option we have. Ware has a long way to go & Collins isn’t big enough to really bang inside. And, that’s not his game, anyway. Brooks & Toppin are 3/4 players. Maybe Cal meant it when he said he would play 1 in, 4 out. We can only hope he did.
Brooks and Collins will be enough.
