While it seems that he probably won't get drafted, I can't imagine him coming out with this now means there's a good chance he's coming back.

Smart on his part. Every player should do this. It is free feedback from NBA personnel. If he doesn't hear what he wants to hear, hopefully he is smart enough to return and improve his draft stock for the following draft.
That’s true but in his case we already know what that feedback is. He not getting drafted. That’s not going to change

Yep, sounds like coming back to UK is plan C
If that was the case, why not just go ahead and declare and then got overseas or G league if undrafted? G LEAGUE and overseas are already options for him if he wants them. Logically, it makes far more sense to do it the way he is if he plans to return.

I don’t understand why this needed to be announced.. It’s like duh! We know you are going through the process... I feel like he’s at his ceiling.. Can Mintz get any better then he already is? I think ultimately he leaves and is a G Leaguer lifer or a Europe bound...

Lol. How many kids has Cal been honest with, especially these marginally talented players, when it comes to advising them about the NBA?

Cal will support his decision even if he knows the kid is making a bad decision for himself. Players first.

The list is pretty long of the players that Cal should have advised that they needed to come back for at least another year, and didn't even though Ray Charles could see they weren't ready for the NBA.

All the other kids were caught up in that OAD hype and grew up with ppl in their saying “go get paid”

Mintz is the opposite of this.

This is the way....just so tired of not knowing who will be on the team and who won't.
You can go ahead and pencil Mintz in on next years team. If you pay very close attention to the announcement and wording, it's plain as day his plan is to get feedback and return for next year with hopes of making an NBA roster in 2022 vs settling for overseas or the Gleague now.

These guys leaving the door open I think they are getting everyone's hopes up. I really don't think he or Jackson come back seen this story way to much. I'm just ready for some much needed good news!

Thanks, but I will wait. This is what we get to do as fans of UK basketball nowadays, wait and see. Worst team at UK in a century and we're having to wait and see who's returning. What a time to be alive.

Just recruit like he's not coming back. Get 2-3 more guards.
Mintz made a decision that he believes in his best interest. Good for him. Now, Cal you BETTER make a decision that is best for our program and following. No waiting to see what happens with him. There have been some impressive experienced point guards in the portal whom we have seen go elsewhere or have not landed as of this moment. Go get Carr now.

Well that's obvious since he is a 5th year senior. I hope you are right on this but the one big reason that he is like the OAD.

He wants to get paid to play basketball, and the clock is ticking for him. His window of opportunity is closing rapidly. I am sure he is feeling that pressure. He probably had the best year he is going to have last year and I'm sure he knows it.

He's going to get evaluated (smart decision) to find out what he needs to work on next season that will increase his chances of playing pro.

Also it would be used as an unofficial tryout for Europe ball. I say he goes there. Not much more he can prove being a 5th year senior. I'd go get paid, by anybody, rather than waste another year with no upside.

That's only if you choose to. It's pretty clear to see what is actually happening if you just pay a little attention.

Do players usually hit their "ceiling" at age 22? If so, that is news to me.

I think we all know how this is gonna go.

He won't get the feedback he wants, goes undrafted, but he wants to get paid,

so he goes overseas or to the G league.

he is nearing 24 years old.. he understands his shelf life is limited. I bet he ends up over seas. Hope not but I bet he does.

Not really my point. This will drag out for a few weeks and just continue the uncertainty of the UK roster.
This really plays no part in the uncertainty. UK knows Mintz will be back at this point. The uncertainties are around who will be coming to play the primary PG, and which of Jackson or Brooks will be back. Neither of those have anything to do with Mintz.

Have to agree. If he isn't good enough to be drafted another year of college BB won't raise his stock. But, a year as a foreign pro or a G league player might.

He wouldn't be drafted if there were 3 rounds.
He's played 4 seasons of college basketball so he's already been evaluated.
He not good enough to get a combine invite or even be flown in for a team workout.
The only reason he's entering is to see what offers he will get professionally.
Just because he hasn't officially signed with an agent doesn't mean a potential agent isn't making calls on his behalf.

That's your opinion. Fact is UK has to act as if he won't be back. Can't have anything set regarding him because of the uncertainty. It's becoming a tired act at UK.
I really like Mintz. Has nothing to do with him personally.

UK went from “We eat first!”, To “We don’t know when we’re going to eat again!”, pretty damn fast!

I don’t know a single person affected by CV-19, but UK’s MBB program sure has a nasty case of it at the moment. UK won’t sniff the AP top 25 next season with or without Mintz, but he’s not returning anyway.

🤦🏾‍♂️ Yes... a player of Davion Mintz talent has maxed out on his potential. What we saw at the end of last year is the best of Davion Mintz.. seriously how good do you think he would become with another year at Kentucky?
