Who is angry man? Are you genuinely that weak of a man that harsh criticisms typed out on a Kentucky message board made literally for discussion makes you think it’s “anger”? LOL.

Really dude? Nobody is angry man. Instead of gaslighting, projecting and dismissing facts and numbers as “MuH yoU’rE ANgrY!” maybe try and refute or rebut his (and majority of the fan bases) points? But you can’t, can you?

Sidebar- I’m not angry.
Boggs is a good dude.

Funniest thing about this post is that "ok, I'll say it" made me expect something to be said that so many others are unwilling to say. Just look around for a sec and you'll see about 100 other posters saying similar things. Yep, this last season sucked. Case closed.

The other funny thing is that the op claims to be an optimist.

Here's what I see. UK fans are a spoiled bunch. We will complain if guys leave. We will complain if guys stay. We will complain about freshmen. We will complain about transfers. The only thing we do consistently is complain about whatever is happening.

I'm not making any guarantees about next season, that much is sure. All we can do is wait and see and "actually" hope for the best for our coach, our players, and our staff.

There you go, another opinion. :D

I hear you and obviously can’t say for sure. I don’t believe he’s lost it. High level performers don’t generally “lose it.” They may get off track but they usually get back on with some mentors and tough love. I don’t believe most high level performers get comfortable with money and stop driving hard. At some point (doesn’t take as much as one might think), it’s not about the money any more. It’s about the competitive nature.
Exactly. Everyone knows Cal has a huge ego, I don’t think he wants to go out with the fan base tearing his yard up and forcing him to move. I’m sure if it gets bad enough some crazies will come out and do something stupid. I think he would rather go out on top and say I told ya so. That’s just my opinion tho.

I agree, people want upperclassmen, he’s trying to get some, the want hold overs, we have a couple. We want guys for a couple years. Had a few but they didn’t do so well. I honestly don’t know what he can do aside from signing the top 3 players and get 3 of the best transfers every year now that will make the majority happy.

Some won't be happy with him no matter what he does. I'm convinced of that. He does deserve criticism for this season, no doubt, and I have criticized the departures of guys like Juzang, Hagans, and Montgomery who really had nowhere to go but left anyway. I think Cal needs to find a way to change the culture that says "if you stay at UK for more than 1 or 2 seasons, you must be a failure." But as I say, some wouldn't support him in anything at this point, outside of maybe a title next season, which is unlikely. I'm just waiting to see what happens, personally. I'm done complaining. Just hoping for good things now for all involved. That's all.

He does need to change, he needs to get rid of it’s not for everyone. Make it for everyone. He’s starting to look to the future more, but he needs to get the guys to stay who need too. Now I know he can’t make them but try and stop the transfers of guys that could help.

This is probably the new way of college basketball. With college hoops seemingly becoming more and more insignificant and elite recruits opting for g league, overseas, etc, combined with the transfer market putting a competitive team together is going to be a challenge for every single program. Kids don’t care about the history and pride of playing for a college powerhouse like UK, UNC, KU, Duke anymore. It’s all about hitting the quickest route to get paid. Because of this I don’t think you’ll consistency from any programs and all programs from here on out will be up and down. Gone are the days when the blue bloods rule the game I suspect and it’s sad to see.

Except Pitino has proven he can take 3* and below talent into much better form than Cal. Idk if Cal has what it takes to coach anymore. Idt he even cares at this point hes made in the shade in terms of contract im sure he feels hes "earned an easy ride" well losing at UK is never easy.
yep the 96 team was loaded with 2 and 3 star talent lol.

If this is the type of roster were looking at for years to come I'd rather have Rick Pitino than Cal. Unpopular opinion around here I'm sure but Rick is probably one of the best coaches I've ever seen. If Cal goes another not so good season I feel the tide will start to turn on him ala tubby and BCG. It's truly hardy or bust hes the only player that could change this team from pretender to contender at this point. Cal not making changes at assistants will he make changes to his coaching philosophy? Probably not, but I dont blame those who have hope. I too used to defend Cal as had as nails, its become too much at this point. You cant say "UK eats first" and were the "Gold Standard" or "Envy our past fear our future" with these classes. Cal missed on at least 2 national championship wins imo. Man I hope he turns it around this year I just don't see it. For those saying "Wait til the class is finished" This isn't like adding Jamal Murray or Herro or Knox theres no real 5* splash outside of Hardy. That class is done. Transfers are a supplement not an answer. We'll see what product Cal puts out next year. I wish him the best.
Do you have anything else you need to get off your chest? You can say UK eats but not first. You can say UK is not the gold standard. OK. How is your constant bitching and complaining helping the situation. If complaining on this board helps relieve your stress then I guess that is a good thing. Hope you can get some relief this year. However if Cal wins the championship this year it won't change the attitude of you, Jeff and Kyfaninnc. You guys will still find something to complain about. So go to it and enjoy.

College basketball is such a mess these days, sometimes I think it might be best just to stop following it altogether. As if this one and done crap wasn't bad enough, now we've added the transfer circus where basically every kid is a free agent if he wants to be. How is any coach going to be able to build and maintain a roster with this level of chaos? Good teams faced the risk of losing talented starters to the draft. Now they have to worry about also losing their reserves to the portal. It makes planning ahead very difficult. You could be a championship contender one year and a complete dumpster fire the next. The days of being a "dynasty", where a particular team is really good year after year are over, for anyone.
This post is foreboding and speaks of what may well be a simple reality. Programs may become fragile houses of cards through no real fault of their own, for the most part. It will be interesting to see how things unfold over the next several years. The biggest thing is that lifelong and die-hard fans may lose interest.

It is better for both UK and you if you quit watching. You put too much emphasis on UK basketball. If UK wins a title this year will your life be much better? Will you get more money in your check. Will your family get a new home or a new car. I learned to not worry about something I have no control over. Life is too short to let college basketball take over your life. I want you to be happy and not depressed all the time.

You attack people that attack Cal and/or the program. How is that any different? I'll answer it for you. It's not putting money in your pocket either.

No you don’t. Stop lying.

Idk how many fans say that **** after saying some dumb **** like that...I want Rick and he’s a better coach but I wish Cal the best and hopes he turns it around.....lies!!! The lies you tell!!!!

I’ve seen one poster admit that no matter what cal does he’ll always want Cal gone. Some other posters need to admit this instead of posting the same dumb argument over and over. Yeah everyone that watches UK knows the problems but we still have the same arguments by the same posters. **** gets old real quick.

Loook at me I hate Cal too....hey hey over here I want attention.

9-16 season brought out all the cry boys.

I think the majority of the "concerned" fans that post here are more worried about the future rather than being upset about the past (especially last year).

I also think the majority of the "optimistic" fans choose to look at the past (2010-2015) and are reluctant ( choose not to) acknowledge the current trend of the program and accept that last year was a disaster of epic proportions for UK basketball, and want to give Cal a pass because of his previous success and HOPE that Cal can pull us out of this nosedive that we are currently in.

I was always taught that HOPE was not a PLAN.

When you have serious problems in any organization, you must have a sound plan to correct those issues.

I personally think Cal is floundering on coming up with a viable solution to get out of this mess.

I HOPE I am wrong.

Exactly. Those who are concerned are so because of the current broken model John Calipari has (warranted). The downward trajectory of the program moving forward. Losing players mid season (quitting) transferring or declaring for the draft no matter what. Yet another year of losing majority of our scoring. John Calipari no longer getting the elites (and hasn’t in several years). We lose our players at an insane turnover. More than any other team in college basketball by far. The fact that we are relying on random and obscure transfers to field a team.

The future of the program doesn’t look super bright tbh and the same Calipari regime squad will continue to screech and holler “but muh 2009-2015!”

Then go be a fan of some other program and take your bitching to that board because you will never be pleased regardless.
Nada. I was "pleased" for decades when Rupp, Hall, Sutton [partly], Pitino and Tubby [partly] were running the show. I was "pleased" all those years Kentucky and Indiana squared off on the court on an annual basis. I was "pleased" all those decades when the overwhelming percentage of players in the UK program actually completed their degrees. Calipari was a clown at UMass, was a clown with the Nets and was a clown at Memphis [including when he sh#t his britches in the championship game against KU]. I have never liked the Calipari hire - largely because he sucks at X's and O's in addition to being a jagoff as a person.

"However if Cal wins the championship this year it won't change the attitude of you, Jeff and Kyfaninnc. You guys will still find something to complain about. So go to it and enjoy."

You're about as bat sh#t crazy as a Nebraska football fan with these arguments. From a crappy, self-inflicted 9-16 dumpster fire to a national championship the following season. 🤣 Calipari jock-sniffers will always be Calipari jock-sniffers.

* My apologies to kl40504. This stuff ain't life or death, it's just basketball. Out-of-season basketball at that. Please interpret my posts and comments as jibberish from the sidelines. 🏀

Some ain't ready for it but Cal, Pitino and Coach K going to join Roy Williams in the retirement home.

We should be trying to find the next hungry legend.
But the next legend doesn’t already have a bunch of final fours and a bunch of wins at the garbage school that he coaches at.
🙄
That is literally what the Cal swingers say about every coach mentioned as a replacement.

I am ready to take a chance on a young exciting coach.

I’m a Fan of Pitino’s coaching for sure. Always have been......He’s a hard assed, loud SOB too.

That said, Pitino would be recruiting the best players he could get too. The coaches that can land the best, go after the best. So that wouldn’t change much, in my opinion.
Except Pitino hasn't been able to get the best

The point of what I was saying with "actually hope for the best" is that I really don't believe many of the people who say they hope for the best for Cal. I think they actually hope he fails and leaves.

I would also add, and I'm sure folks have heard this one before, I do believe we all actually hope for the best for the program. I actually believe the majority of those who are ready for Cal to be gone actually believe it is what is best for the program. I just don't think many (I'm sure this doesn't apply to all) realize what they really want is to just win right now. I want that too, by the way, of course. But I think most haven't fully thought through what Cal being fired or immediately resigning would do to this program. I think most folks calling for Cal's head are just angry people swinging blindly at the air, having experienced a very humbling and frustrating season- and one for the ages, for sure. What would happen if they got their wish today? They'd be thrilled for ONE DAY and then they'd have to put on a happy face while they watched the whole thing fall apart, almost instantaneously.

Consider... if you think we've had some bad years with players leaving, how about an entire roster? If Cal was fired today or if he was forced to resign or even if he voluntarily left without demanding his buyout, what would the immediate impact be? The entire team would leave. The 2 transfers we've signed for next season would immediately re-enter the transfer portal. The guys who might declare, would declare, and sign with an agent. Chances of getting Jackson back, now zero. Chances of Mintz or Sarr returning, now zero. Brooks, certainly gone. Toppin, gone. The incoming freshmen would ask out of their LOI's and those waivers would be granted. Whoever we got to coach would have to start from scratch.

Further, the chances of bouncing back next season (from our worst season in 100 years), or even the next 2 seasons, would be nil. We are talking about jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. And if you hate Cal's recruiting, just try dealing with the recruiting of whoever follows the hall of fame coach we just ran out of town.

And if you want those 3 and 4 year players at UK, guess how long it will take before those guys become the cohesive unit that Gonzaga and Baylor had this season? Yep, 3 or 4 years. What are we until then? Average. We would probably be looking at a minimum of 2 more seasons of mediocrity and listening to those national analysts say, "this is not the kind of talent we're used to seeing in a Kentucky uniform." (do we have that kind of patience?) And what about that 3rd season? We might be a top 25 team that season, with an outside chance of getting to a Sweet 16 with some breaks. If those guys stayed the full 4 years (what are the chances of that these days? the best would likely declare no matter what), we'd get to have a huge senior day and maybe have a shot at a Final Four if all the team stayed and if the guys are truly talented enough to make that kind of run. And then what? We start all over again, recruiting 3 and 4-year players, and it's like the days of Tubby again, who had lots of great senior days and a good team about once every 3 or 4 seasons.

Truth is, whoever came in would have to hit the transfer portal hard, since recruiting is basically done for this year. They'd have to sign a bunch of transfers from wherever they could find them just to put a team on the floor next year. But who would come? The power is all in the hands of the players right now. We'd lose the ones we have and then we'd be looking at 2nd and 3rd tier transfers. He'd be piecing together a makeshift team for next season and then hitting the 2022 class hard for 3 and 4-star kids guaranteed to stick around for 3 years minimum.

I'm sure I paint a dim picture, but I remember the days of Tubby when we couldn't compete nationally and were rarely in the conversation for top recruits, when we had great senior days but not a snowflake's chance to actually make a Final Four, and forget a title. I remember hearing Dick Vitale wonder aloud on a UK broadcast how our talent level had sunk so far, and having to begrudgingly agree with him. I remember saying to whoever would listen "if Tubby could just get someone else to recruit for him, he could probably coach them up." You can't squeeze orange juice out of lemons.

Whoo!! That's a lot to digest.

Based on what you just wrote, when will it be a GOOD time for Cal to leave the program. And he WILL leave at some point, just like Rupp,
Hall, Pitino.....and all the rest.

Cal is actually holding a portion of the fanbase hostage for fear of the program collapsing as he walks out the door, leaving the program in ruins.

Again, that day will come, also. And it will be no different than when the others left. There will be a 2-3 maybe even 4 year time period to rebuild the program.

Cal faced the same problem you speak of when he followed BCG, but he was able to rob Memphis of their entire recruiting class and reload with talent immediately.

It still took him until 2012 to win a title, so it didn't happen overnight with Cal and all that talent.

It sounds like many assume that last year was an anomaly for Cal and that he will immediately get us back in the hunt next year.

So, you are also assuming that Cal can take a whole new group of players, mold them into a team, and get them to buy into his Stars eat first system.

Based on the trend since 2015, Cal has not been able to do that for whatever reason.

What do you think Cal will do different this year that he did not try last year?

Will the Transfers be more talented? Hopefully.
Will Cal play them ahead of his 5 stars?
Will Cal play them ahead of returning players? If there are any left.

Some folks better get mentally prepared for Cal leaving if next year turns out like last year.

Looking at UT, Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Florida's potential for next year, it could be another rough season for UK and Cal.

If it is another bad year, then what?

How many bad years before something HAS to change?
