If this is the type of roster were looking at for years to come I'd rather have Rick Pitino than Cal. Unpopular opinion around here I'm sure but Rick is probably one of the best coaches I've ever seen. If Cal goes another not so good season I feel the tide will start to turn on him ala tubby and BCG. It's truly hardy or bust hes the only player that could change this team from pretender to contender at this point. Cal not making changes at assistants will he make changes to his coaching philosophy? Probably not, but I dont blame those who have hope. I too used to defend Cal as had as nails, its become too much at this point. You cant say "UK eats first" and were the "Gold Standard" or "Envy our past fear our future" with these classes. Cal missed on at least 2 national championship wins imo. Man I hope he turns it around this year I just don't see it. For those saying "Wait til the class is finished" This isn't like adding Jamal Murray or Herro or Knox theres no real 5* splash outside of Hardy. That class is done. Transfers are a supplement not an answer. We'll see what product Cal puts out next year. I wish him the best.

K is 74, Pitino is 68, Cal is 62. If Cal retires early it isn't because hes going out on his own terms.
I'm willing to wait to see how this year shakes out before I get too upset about Cal.

College basketball is such a mess these days, sometimes I think it might be best just to stop following it altogether. As if this one and done crap wasn't bad enough, now we've added the transfer circus where basically every kid is a free agent if he wants to be. How is any coach going to be able to build and maintain a roster with this level of chaos? Good teams faced the risk of losing talented starters to the draft. Now they have to worry about also losing their reserves to the portal. It makes planning ahead very difficult. You could be a championship contender one year and a complete dumpster fire the next. The days of being a "dynasty", where a particular team is really good year after year are over, for anyone.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I like the idea of Askew coming back. I don't think he'd be the starter (if he would then I'm not sure why he thought about transferring) and if we can get him for 2-3 more years he could be a very solid player
Except Pitino has proven he can take 3* and below talent into much better form than Cal. Idk if Cal has what it takes to coach anymore. Idt he even cares at this point hes made in the shade in terms of contract im sure he feels hes "earned an easy ride" well losing at UK is never easy.

On the juco side of things, Steve Eck (Hutch) and Steve Green (South Plains) are fixing to get out of the game. Eck is rumored to retire and Green rumored to take an administrative position on Mark Adams staff at Texas Tech. Those two are juco legends.
The NCAA better figure out what direction it’s going to go in especially with the NIL and transfer rules or it’s going to watch its product ultimately die.

Totally agree with this. I still believe the G-leauge won't gain traction ppl think it will but it is what it is at this moment.
I hear you and obviously can’t say for sure. I don’t believe he’s lost it. High level performers don’t generally “lose it.” They may get off track but they usually get back on with some mentors and tough love. I don’t believe most high level performers get comfortable with money and stop driving hard. At some point (doesn’t take as much as one might think), it’s not about the money any more. It’s about the competitive nature.

I never want a shooter to transfer, but I'm not in the camp that blamed Cal for Juzang. Wilt was a terrible fit for the scheme and I wasn't terribly upset that he left TBH. Baker is more of a mystery, but I think he would have been better off staying at UK than going to AZ only to transfer again. Some of these kids just don't seem to think they should have to work for their minutes IMHO.
im with you dude. Season ended a month ago and nothing positive has happened. No steps in any direction. By this time stoops had fired Eddie gran which is the equivalent of firing two assistants on this staff. This after the worst season in our lifetimes cal keeps chugging along. Cal has grown stale. I idk if he even knows what to do. I’d take pitino in a heartbeat. Hes probably got 7 good years left and would win a title in 3 years. We have a reject ad who cannot hold people to account. He gives extensions but can’t reprimand or demand change. As a matter of fact I think Barney owes us an explanation for why there are no changes being made. Him and cal should have been held to the fire to have a presser in which they take some tough questions. What’s happening with UK basketball right now is akin to playing with fire. It’s like cal has some dirt on Barney.

Pitino sucks. He was at Louisville 16 years and zero titles. He lost over 80% of the time to Cal and UK including twice in the NCAA tournament when it really counts. He is a proven cheater and was fired at Louisville for his program providing prostitutes to minors and paying recruits. So how many championships did Pitino miss on in 16 years at Louisville? How about 16. If you think he is one of the best coaches you have seen then why did he not do anything at Louisville? He also gave the middle finger to UK fans after losing to Cal at Rupp. Nice hero you have there.

It is better for both UK and you if you quit watching. You put too much emphasis on UK basketball. If UK wins a title this year will your life be much better? Will you get more money in your check. Will your family get a new home or a new car. I learned to not worry about something I have no control over. Life is too short to let college basketball take over your life. People always seem to gloss over the little fact that Iona had also made the last four NCAA Tournaments before the one with Pitino this year.
Pitino's had an all time great coaching career, no doubt.
But it's not like he took over a team that was trash and made them a tournament team.
He just won the MAAC Conference Tournament, as Iona had already done four times in a row before he got there.
