You must be too young to remember our probation.
The NCAA will give UNCheat a pass, they will drag their feet on KU and others, but on UK they will drop the hammer overnight.

Okay, so Baylor can hang on to Macio Teague, Jared Butler, Davion Mitchell, Mark Vital, Flo Thamba, Matthew Mayer and Flagler, but we can't hang on to Mintz, EJ, Hagans, Richards, Dialo, Quickly, Askew, Whitney or Teague? Don’t you see something wrong?

So, Iowa can bring back Luka Garza for his senior year, but we can't hang on to players like EJ and Hagans for more than 2 years?

So, Villanova can hang on to Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Divincenzo, Paschall, Mikal Bridges and Kris Jenkins, for 4 years, but we can only muster 4 total 3 year players in 12 years???

I mean, there's a problem, right? Seems like it to me.

It's every school in college basketball right now...not just UK.

And much of it is totally outside of Cal's control. It's just the current climate of college basketball. If NCAA continues this transfer rule recruiting never stops...even in college. Brooks was recruited & sold to return to IU. Cal is not running him off.

So, if you want to lay blame, blame NCAA & NBA.

Because he is selling them on several aspects including the tradition of Indiana and player development. I don't know if Woodson will work out but he is doing a lot of things right coming out of the gate. Woodson is doing this while making the University's best interest a priority as well as the kids.

my comments are focused more on the culture around our program, not a specific player or season.

if anything, thanks to Cal, UK is more prepared for the chaos of players leaving - but that doesn't mean that UK has a path to dominance from it.

Instead of being in a situation where we could leverage retaining players due to what our program offers, its fan base, its exposure and the opportunity to play for the gold standard of college ball, we have a culture of you're easily replaced and if you don't like it, leave.

Not speaking of this year-Cal hasn’t retained holdovers from one year to the next since he got here for the most part. Someone posted information the other day in another thread and the average # of years players stay was less than 1.5 for all signees. We won’t win this way and we’ll never stabilize the program for longer term success.

You're talking about guys who at no point until this season had NBA aspirations and most of those guys still don't. Cal told Askew he believed he was a 2 year player and he was brought in to be that. Askew dipped becasue those west coast guys can't handle being in kentucky. Were they not good enough? No they would be great here too but they want to go back home. The situation is completely different.

1.4 years is average. The scarier one for me is that you are almost 3 times as likely to transfer after 1 or 2 years than to stay 4. 11 times more likely to transfer than stay 4 if you exclude the instate kids that grew up dreaming of playing for UK.

Yes, spot on. Good work on the data by the way. If we are getting 2 to 3 of the top 5 kids, the roster turnover would be less of an issue.

I’ve been defensive of Cal in thinking he’s decided to rebuild the program through retention, but if the KB transferring news is legit, then nothing has changed. What I thought was a positive development with hitting the transfer market, would clearly just be more stop gap position filling for next year.
