Do you envision the likeness money offsetting the G League money?

Cal: Don't know yet...the ground is moving

--How do we remain the gold std.?

--I couldn't watch selection Sunday

--Only gonna watch games where friends are coaching

--You want this program to train and prepare guys for the rest of their life

--Cal thanking Tom for all he does...going to practices, etc

--This season was unacceptable...went thru it in '13

--We are here to compete and win National Titles

--I'm not satisfied

--Let's put this behind

--A lot of happy people we had a bad year

That's it for the year...thanks guys....Go Cats!
Cal no Kentucky fan is glad about this season.

if he actually makes these changes Cal could very possibly turn things around here.

I believe it when I see it though. He’s said a lot of things that he’s ignored or went back on.

to show he’s contrite he needs to let two coaches go. To change the culture you have to change the staff. We don’t need a bruiser and a barbee and we don’t need Justus.

You have no idea what each assistant does or who should or shouldn’t be here.

There is zero chance Cal gets rid of 2 or 3 assistants. No college coach does that as it would be completely moronic.

yeah I’m with you. I am shocked but he’s saying all the right things so far IMO. If he enacts the changes he’s describing it’s exactly what most everyone has been asking for. Let’s see if he does I’m willing to give him the chance to right the ship.
Talk is cheap. My mind won’t change till I see he has changed. I still don’t think he will change, we will see.

Fair enough nothing wrong with that stance IMO.

I choose to assume he’s sincere. Either way we will see how it plays out. No offense, but here’s to hoping you are wrong. Haha

oh my god, cal is changing?!?!?
Nope he isn't changing, same old thing with Tubby "We are going to push the ball" Cal is going to run the same offense as always. Reminds me of a politician promising everything, but just tells people what they want, then doesn't follow thru.

Dude you might as well follow another team. He isn’t going anywhere and apparently some of players you said you would probably not watch again for kneeling, will return. Of course we all know you will be watching next year.
I have already stated I would re-evaluate next year. I May and I may not.

I've been as anti-Cal as anyone. He's at least saying the right things now so that gives me a sliver of hope. Now let's see if he acts on it. If he turns things around next year I'll be happy to eat my serving of crow.
He is still our coach and i have been so upset with how he has handled this year. But, i still bleed blue and want to see our team win and be the gold standard for my grandkids to see some day. If he does what he says it could be the turn that they we have been needing to go forward. I am like you, I will be happy to eat my serving of crow if he can pull this off. GO CATS!

What I find hilarious is a lot of people said he won’t say anything about changing and he will say the same old same old. Now the narrative has changed and talk is cheap. 😂
He has said a lot in his time here that didn't come to pass so pardon me if I aint just drinking the kool aid.
I'm glad to hear him to say what I heard. I truly am. But Gold standard and UK will eat first is still ringing in my ears.

Sounds like the same old crap to me. Going to just let them play pick up games instead of drills and he's not going to watch games unless friends are coaching.

We need more drills, more structure and a college basketball junkie coach who lives and breathes the games.

Prepare for more mediocre seasons.

Oh you mean like how he swore to recruit shooters and no more cant shoot players 3-4 years ago and then completely forgot about it after 1 year? or the many other things he says and never follows through on????????????????

Cal has to show it and prove it.......... just saying it wont work anymore

To be fair, Boston, Allen, Mintz and Askew were all guys who had reputations as being able to shoot it.

Problem is, Allen proved he could do it in game and then cal jerked him around, threw him out of his rhythm and then stopped playing him.

Askew and Boston’s poor shooting can be attributed to not being ready to play major minutes at this level and just poor offensive design, preparation and execution due to playing on an entirely new team.

Boston did start shooting it better towards the end though.

I really think most of our issues boil down to the lack of roster continuity(we dig a hole with bad losses early on every year because we’re young), which he did say guys are going to start staying 3 and 4 years so here’s hoping, and Cal getting tight in close games.

NO coach tries to run a program with a new roster every year either

Agree. This is good stuff. What we wanted to hear. Now need to execute. Make some changes.....we all know what they are/should be.

For the guys that are going to cry “Fire Cal” or “he should resign”.....save it. Stupid, irrational thinking. Not a realistic option at this point.

I think Cal can fix this. But he has to change, has to evolve.

Every coach in history has said a lot that didn’t come to pass. Frankly, we have no choice but to see if it shakes out at this point. Allen and Askew returning are a good start.

If Cal goes back to building rosters the way he used to and mix in a few one and done players, I think we will win more games and most fans would be happy. Cals best teams before he came to Kentucky were veteran teams. His Umass team gave my favorite UK team their first loss of the season in 96. My biggest criticism of cal has always been devaluing veteran leadership. If he does as he says he will, I think it would be great.
What's ironic about that loss in '96 is that Pitino was doing the exact same pig-headed thing that Cal took so much heat on this year: not playing the Kentucky kid to the detriment of the team. I recently watched the replay of that team playing, Maryland I believe, first game of the season; UMass was the 2nd game. Anyhow, jr Anthony Epps, who everybody knew was the answer at pg that year, was the 5th guard used, put in after Md had jumped out on us and we couldn't score, late in the first half. Epps immediately hit a couple of threes and dropped a couple of dimes to get the Cats rolling.

If he'd been the starter by game 2, UMass wasn't beating us in that game. Pitino always treated him like a red-headed step child. He was kind of forced to offer him a scholarship, and resented it. Thought that playing him major minutes reflected badly on his judgment, since he didn't think Anthony was good enough to play at UK. Kind of like Cal and Allen.

Hmm....guess the 2019/2020 team was a brand new roster? Pretty short memory on the clowns here.
No school in the country has the annual roster turnover the UK has.

19-20 roster had a lot of newcomers. Juzang, Whitney, Maxey, Sestina, Brooks, and Allen. Maybe you should try having one ounce of some info before you post.
I would consider 6 newcomers a lot. Teams are allowed 13 scholly players. Six is almost half.

Listened to the show. Not sure what changes are coming and don’t think Cal knows either but I think he knows something has to change. Really the only thing I took from it was what he said last. Truly feel like a comeback is definitely on the table for Mintz and it seems to be 50/50.

Boston had rep as a scorer, not a shooter. His shooting efficiency was abysmal in the EYBL

Mintz was never more than a mid-30% shooter his entire career at Creighton.

Throw in the fact that Cal does not practice generating 3 pointers, and we were doomed from the beginning to be a bad perimeter shooting team.

Running late...sorry!

---Missing tournament happened in 2013...AND AGAIN THIS YEAR. Nice job Coach!

--"14 was much different but ittook time. Like sand through the hour glass...

--I never stopped coaching them. I saw that...that 9-16 record really showed it.

--The ground below us is moving some. New Madrid Fault I guess.

--College basketball is gonna change drastically next 3-4 years. OK

--Team never connected enough. Hmmmm, I wonder why?

--It's only been 4 days...dont have the answers yet. You didn't have them all season, I wasn't expecting much in 4 days so don't beat yourself up.

--I'm coaching at KY...been a heckuva ride. Hmmmm, I'm going to leave that one alone for now.

--This will all play out in the next few eeks. The NBA draft isn't until June IIRC.

I was just thinking the same thing. I think he's exactly right. Players staying longer is a good thought. Working on those last 3 minutes of games for this group is obviously key. How many games was this team in with 3 minutes to go and then wilted down the stretch? By the way, the previous year's team was just the opposite- they had multiple close games but always made the plays to win down the stretch. This year's team never figured that out.

In that regard, the biggest issue was the lack of guys who could just make plays- quick guards who could penetrate and finish or dish. We just didn't have that guy. Clarke might have become that. Boston can create but too inconsistent.

I like what I'm hearing- also needing skill over athleticism is right on the money. Cal has always valued athletes over skilled players but the game is changing.

Now, I agree with others. We want to see this in action.

True tho...........

We finished the year 33.6% from 3. We ended up being an average 3 point shooting team.

What killed us was the 45.5% from 2. That was good for 313th in the nation.

That number was so bad that we would have had better shooting numbers had we just took 100% of our shots from 3 lol.

Yeah, Sarr could hit a 3 better than he could hit a layup. That is what killed us inside. Jackson came on late but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn early. Boston’s poor shooting is well chronicled. You're right. The 3pt shooting isn't what killed this team. It was missing shots 5 feet and in.
