You need to zone Bama

Dude we leave teams more wide open in zone than we do man. I would be afraid to see it. And we can’t rebound out of it with this team so far this year.

Because all of their 3s come off penetration and pitch
Then deny penetration and stick to your man floating on the 3 line and don't collapse.
Because man ain't working. We need to try something new. I don't want us to just take a beating and shrug our shoulders
It would be way worse with zone. Zones are built to collapse in not guard the 3 line. You use them against non 3 shooting teams. Now you can sprinkle one in a few times but exclusively going to it would be suicide.

Cats went zone last possession of first half and Bama turned it over

Try to take away penetration and dare them to shoot a 15 footer

Make Bama do something different

Exactly. Maybe we can get some turnovers and easy buckets off of them. Lord knows our offense needs help tonight

Playing zone should stop penetration and you know where the 3 point shooters are

But it’s counterintuitive for simpletons to comprehend

Lol well why don't you tweet at Cal the "simpleton" and tell him that. He never zones so its pointless to ask.

I agree zone is designed for poor shooting teams, but when you're getting torched in man and can't keep anyone out of the paint, try something new.

We went zone there. If we try it and it doesn't work, oh well. At least try. I'd also like to see some traps and pressing, but that's a pipe dream

You have to take Bama out of their comfort zone with ball pressure, traps, etc you don’t have to guard the midrange they refuse to shoot it there

Why would you zone a team that shoots 30 3s a game?
Because you can match up much better when you're not chasing & switching. It's really backward to think zone means open shots. Why? In today's game with dribble penetration & spacing it's much easier to get 3s against man than zone. Go back & chart it any game and see which one allows more 3s per minute zone or man. It's not close especially when you play extended matchup zone defense.

if the narrative of college sports hadn’t changed you could accuse brooks of point shaving. this is an especially bad game. he’s a solid player too.

The problem is everybody on this team thinks they can block shots. A ball fake and they jump out of the gym trying to block it. That's why the zone won't work.
Stay on the floor and send them to Jackson and stay home on the shooters.

They scored 6 points on our zone in 6 mins
& two of those were off junk steal on a rebound. & that's with us playing a soft 2-3. If we ever learned to coach an aggressive extended matchup 3-2 with our length we would be one of the best 3 point defenses in the country- no question

Alabama had wide open looks out of our zone. Wide open. Wide open. Wide open. Just wanted that to be clear. If we kept playing zone we would have lost by 40. There is a reason why he went back to man to man.

Not a good game. Really disappointing...
