The goddam ball doesn’t go through the ****** orange hoop enough.
He's trying to be Kevin Durant. But he does not make them.I have tried to watch him when he is shooting, the only thing is see is he is not squaring up his body. Thoughts ?
What movie?Anyone remember that scene in the movie with Bobby Knight where he tells a guy he cannot shoot like that, and makes the guy go to the other end with a coach to change his shot while everyone else practiced?
I always thought that was a huge mistake to try to change a players shot this far in, but this guy needs to change it. The motion takes way 2 long and it comes from very low which will not cut it in college.
Seems like a TN player changed his over a summer, Schofield maybe? It can be done.
I think Cal is telling him to drive it, but he is not fast enough or elusive enough to rely on that, you gotta be able to hit a jumpshot or 3 pointer in college to open the floor for more.
People really hear what they want to. Cal talked about Allen's defense and some misses which he had. He then went on to praise Allen saying he made up for it by making shots and that they have to have Allen out there because he makes shots and opens up the floor. He also mentioned that Allen got the second chance after missing the FT with the lane violation and DA made it or that Vandy shot would have been for the win. I mean let go of the narrative. Cal was pretty straight up when talking about DA and he played him 32 minutes good for the second-most on the team behind just Mintz. Maybe have a listen again. You are right but do you think Cal's unsolicited comment that all the good Allen did was offset by his mistakes. It is one thing for the fans to boo you but it is another thing to be criticized unnecessarily in such a public way by your coach. Considering that he broke a 6 game losing streak for Cal just a couple days ago, he deserved better from Cal.
He shouldn't have been booed. I understand he took a terrible shot, but that's not right.I thought I heard it on tv
That was Cal’s “this is not the university of Dontaie Allen” moment. You are right but do you think Cal's unsolicited comment that all the good Allen did was offset by his mistakes. It was during our first half dry spell when he started playing some 1v1 and forced a couple back to back. Feel for the kid. He’s still playing hard, just can’t find his game. Please tell me that didn’t happen. Did we really have fans booing him?
Too worried about getting his.Always been the best player on the floor and now he’s getting his s* pushed in. He needs to get tougher and humble and come with a better mindset. Shooting is confidence
Yes, his release is slow, low, and takes too long and not physical enough to drive or create space.Anyone remember that scene in the movie with Bobby Knight where he tells a guy he cannot shoot like that, and makes the guy go to the other end with a coach to change his shot while everyone else practiced?

I don't know many (if any) 18yr olds who wouldn't be hurt by their own fans boo'ing them. Even if he can handle it, he shouldn't have to.If these players can handle being berated by Cal, a couple of boos shouldn't harm him.
Combination of things, but he obviously does not have "textbook" form (see Mintz, Sarr) and that may be a lingering issue going forward. Some of it really seems to be not being comfortable in our offensive sets to know where and when to shoot. I'm not a big fan of the offense we run, but there are some decent looks out of it and we are running it better of late...crisper passes and more energetic cuts. Some of it is mental. More time in the gym will fix that. More transition baskets/opportunities would surely help...this is obviously where he excels.I have tried to watch him when he is shooting, the only thing is see is he is not squaring up his body. Thoughts ?
^^^ This is exactly his issue. The kid is 6'7" with long arms, but can have his shot affected by a 6'0" guard because of the long, low release ... not to mention that when your shooting stroke/path is that long (starting from the waist rather than the shooting pocket at the shoulder) you increase the likelihood of being off target and it produces an inconsistent release.Yes, his release is slow, low, and takes too long and not physical enough to drive or create space.
Its always less about mechanics that it is head. Take better shots and you make more. Take them in rythm and the flow of the offense and you make more. Take them with confidence without hesitation and you make more. He's still learning how to do all that. First and foremost needs to lear about spacing and stop driving into traffic and forcing things. Also needs to learn how to pass and get it back in space. Right now thinks he has to dribble his way into a shot and ends up dribbling right into crowds or bad angles etc.I have tried to watch him when he is shooting, the only thing is see is he is not squaring up his body. Thoughts ?
