I’ve been amazed at the number of attorneys who can’t even bother to throw on an old blazer or sport coat for motion docket (let alone a tie). I’ve softened some of my views on proper public dress amidst our “new reality,” but court is court, folks.

You're looking at it wrong, imo. If the courts don't see fit to even be open and are willing to suspend jury trials indefinitely, etc., why should attorneys staring at some ******* screen full of autism worry about putting on a tie?

Court is a formal place of rules. Pretty hard to take that seriously when there is an executive order demanding that attorneys work from home if possible and witnesses are calling in, clearly being coached, and on occasion aren't even the person they are claiming to be.

I’m too much of a car guy to drive a piece of ****. I take care, maintain and keep my cars because I love to drive and crank jams.

But that 2000 Land Cruiser I bought with 15,000 miles is a car I should never gotten rid of. 16 MPG was indeed a factor but that thing drove over anything. Beast. Unbreakable. Unrivaled reliability.

Post-Cruiser, had an X3, Infiniti QX60, and now I moved on and bought a brand new whip during pandemic - which I really enjoy. Financed at 0.0%.

Investment? No.
New car smell? Priceless.

Wife’s car, though.

I have a ‘13 1 Series vert that’s paid for, 40k mi and has the last reliable engine BMW has made...naturally aspirated inline 6. Still a blast to drive.

So car guys- what is the best sub-premium SUV out there for a family of 3 plus golden retriever?

Honda Pilot is a very reliable, spacious, easy to drive SUV for a family. Pretty boring as well.

Been looking at the genesis SUVs coming out as they seem different in their styling and it seems like all SUVs look the same now, but will probably give it a year to see feedback.

My favorite car I ever had was a 92 Toyota Tercel 4-Speed that I bought for $500 with 200k miles and it ran to 297k before it gave out. The next car I purchase will likely be an 80's station wagon.

New Rogue which just came out. Or the new Pathfinder that comes out next April.
Speaking from a position of selfishness.

4Runner is the top dog-mobile because of roll down rear window.

Probably not best ride for kiddo and wife passengers.

Ooof

You don’t see too many of em, but when you do...it’s the most classic prettiest beast on the road.

All the premium soccer moms seem to be getting the Lexus GX460....which has turned into a god awful hideous beast with the awful front grill and stuff.

I feel like WCC needs a Subaru. No offense.

-dont sleep on Subaru. Daughter has a 13 forrester...my dad just bought a 20 forester. Fantastic cars...built on a small truck platform. The outbacks are really nice as well...the 3.6 litre is fun to drive.

Nike for life. Cruised around the neighborhood in a brand new pair of vomeros. The goats.

I like the look of those new tellurides, wcc.

I love that this conversation is making PTI furious. Bunch of middle age dudes, with good jobs and safely invested 401ks just talking about their whips. Enjoy life friends.

Rudd hit the nail on the head, Chad. If you value reliability, safety, good looks, great traction, and solid naturally aspirated V6 engines, Toyota is the only way to go.

If you’re getting a 4Runner, my only advice would be to get a limited, for the full time all wheel drive. The manual/traditional four wheel drive in the other models will drive over anything, but on regular driving on slick roads around town, it’s kind of a pain in the ***. In rear wheel drive, you’ll lose traction on anything slippery. And four wheel locks the center differential, so you’ll bind up in turns, even on wet surfaces. No real happy middle ground on sloppy roads around town. That’s not a problem in the limited because you’re in all wheel drive without the center diff being locked.

If you can find a limited with decent mileage, I think that would be the play. They’ve been virtually unchanged since 2009, aside from tech updates, so it doesn’t really matter what model year you buy.

The Highlander is super solid also, but as Rudd said, more suited for mama. Not that it’s a chick car or anything, it just kind of disappears in the crowd.

/long/Toyota truck geek.

and a last quick edit - I’ve brought all three of my boys home from the hospital in my 2010 4Runner trail, so I can attest to its family friendliness. It’s not just a bro machine.

In-laws have a 16 Forrester and a 15 Outback, the Forrester suuuuuuuucks. The Outback is fine but it’s just a long car.

No clue why they have 2 suburus though, they’re not hippies or lesbians.

I just started running the first of October. The only running I had ever done prior was if I played a sport. I dabbled with couch to 5K about 7 years ago but didn’t care.

I have ran at least 2 miles a day since the first of October and began working out also. MWF is gym day. TRS is running day. Running day is usually 3-5 and sometimes more miles.

My furthest run was 10 miles on 11/28 and my fast 5K time is 28:05. Nowhere near some of the runners here but I’m proud of myself.

With that said, what are some of the items that I need or you recommend? I’m just running in some 2 year old Nikes from Shoe Carnival. My goal is to run in all the Louisville events (triple crown or whatever) and the Mini Marathon as long as they aren’t virtual. I have zero interest in a virtual run.

My goal is to run the mini in less than two hours which I think is doable. The ten miles I did on a whim took 1hr 51m. I’d like to do the 5K in 25 minutes or less.

Any tips or gear recommendations? I really dislike treadmill running but will do it when the weather is really bad. I live 1.5 miles from the Parklands so it’s nice to just take off and go.

-did you just call my dad a lesbian, anthony?

-i wouldn't pick a Subaru to be *my* daily driver..but they are incredibly capable/safe. Wouldn't hesitate to buy one for the wife.

-not the first time ive heard about issues with Forresters of that vintage, cricket. Viv's is a tank. Dad's is too new to know if they're still a problem.

For those of you with sons over the age of 10, are boys still into cars? I wasn’t crazy about them or anything when I was a kid, but I bet I knew almost every make and model and definitely had an opinion about them. My interest in cars fell off a cliff after high school, and now don’t really care too much at all.

-those are awesome. The diesel engines are basically a tractor motor...can't break em, simple to maintain.

What are the advantages of a GPS watch over using an app on my phone? Currently using Nike Run Club
It's on your wrist so you can see the data. HR is important if you're trying to speed up. If you just want to enjoy the time outside, the app is fine, but I haven't tried the Nike app. I use strava because it's good for cycling. It also has a real time beacon feature so WS can see where I'm at vice-versa. Good safety feature.

<-- Is absolutely jealous. If I was still working for "the man" (the super easy very high paying job I used to have), I'd be driving something considerably nicer. But building a business completely from the ground up required some sacrifices. So a cheap ***, cash bought old car it is.

For funsies:

4Runner
the new Bronco
X-Terra (I may be one of the few people who actually like these things, and you can get them in a manual)
Any full size truck that's NOT a 4-door

No freaking thanks on the Subaru. People that buy those *love* them. I don't get it.

I think Chad could pass for a lesbian, it’s all about how you identify these days anyway.

The cayenne is indeed dope, and drives like a damn sports car. Couldn’t believe how that thing handled on the track in Vegas. Not very big though. Huge price range depending on the engine and trim.

Love the Pti hate for the Ons. They are extremely comfortable, seems they’d be fine to workout in. Loves mines.

Wife informed me today the steak knives I told her I wanted and purchased are now not my gift. She has picked out something she knows I want, and asked me to guess. Bourbon-no. Meat-no. Lake house-no. I have no idea what this can be.

Christmas Vacation is the GOAT of the genre.

False on the Pilot reliability, IMO.

I’m all in on the Koreans and love the Genesis’ “Batman The Animated Series“ SUV styling. I may pick one up when there are CPO’s available.

I maintain a spreadsheet to remind myself of how much our vehicles are costing per mile (and on an estimated “per minute”) based on yearly depreciation and anticipated maintenance.

It is a sobering dataset to say the least and keeps my car fever at bay.

The Tellurides are nice, honestly I wasn’t too happy getting it but it’s been a pleasant surprise so far.

Rides perfect, great on gas, and plenty of space when we travel.

-loved the xterra...they stopped making them, sad.

-quantrell had a 16 taco w/ manual transmission...took it for a day when i was in the market for a new ride. Really fun to drive...super quick, pretty sure i couldn't do a manual transmission full time, think it would get old after the nostalgia wore off.

The manual transmission is great in the Sunday sports car, but pretty impractical for the modern everyday driver, imo.

Find yourself a couple good country roads, predrive them to look for obstacles or Smokey’s, then set on fire...imo.

It’s amazing how cheap horsepower is these days. I mean, you can get a Camry with 301hp for a very reasonable price, and without offending pti.

I had the occasion earlier this fall to take a friend’s new Honda Accord Touring out on a great road, route 10 in Campbell/Pendleton counties (phenomenal driving road if you’re in the area), and holy **** - just a phenomenal and beautiful driving machine. For like 35k.

Not going to confuse it for the good doctor’s Porsche or anything, but we are in a golden age of driving.
