What I Need Right Now

I don't usually post the day of a loss. I know myself well enough to not do that. I will not post except for this. I do not want Cal gone. Okay, that's out of the way. What I need right now is not we are young, the schedule is too hard for these guys. Rather what I need is a coach who mans up and examines himself and his program honestly and recognized systemic issues and addresses them head on even if that means not using the same model he had in 2010 and with elite players. It's 11 years later. What worked then is not working now.

If Cal would step up and say something is wrong with what I'm doing system wise, we are not good. It is my fault and the guys are not playing well, but they and myself and my staff will work our tails off to get it right. I am so sick of the schedule talk, the young talk, the snarky remarks etc. Who controls that? If Cal thinks this fan base and the Lex press won't turn, he's very wrong. Anyway, that's all I have because the rest just is not forum friendly.

I agree. It begins and ends at the top. These are young players who have never played together, who need SOLID, Constant coaching. They may be five stars, but right now, they need to be treated like they are still learning how to play the game because they lack basic fundamentals. I am at a loss for words for the lack of elementary understanding of the game and also, how they seem to consider this just another AAU season. That has to change and that is Calipari’s responsibility.

There's no way that happens. Too stubborn and arrogant.
I do want him gone. I want him gone because he won't do any of what you posted.
GT is a bad team but they looked great tonight.
This way of doing things is done. The problem is the guy who created the problem doesn't think there is a problem.

Cal said on his very first post game show, "If you're not finding joy watching the team, then he's doing something wrong". It doesn't look like many are finding joy nowadays. It's around the 18:20 mark. Link

Just after KU. He's gotta do it. Or this thing goes to a whole different level if we keep losing, (I see nothing that indicates we wont). The whole different level will be a nasty fan base and a potentially nasty press that may be tired of his act.

He is condescending to fans, reporters, media, other coaches and most likely to the refs. Cal was/is despised outside of Kentucky and that is slipping away now. He git away with it when he was winning, he was swaggy Cal. The swag left for the NBA.

you'd know that better than me I guess, but its one thing to be ambivalent about a team that is mediocre and develops into an elite 8 level talent, but look at this board right now, the pendelum has swung - and I have to believe that is indicative of the BBN fanbase overall - which in turn should ignite the media.

KSR last year had a shot across the bow early in the season with bad play which was the first time I could recall they openly questioned Cal's system, and I'm sure they are less than diplomatic now. I have to believe the flood gates are about to open.

He also said he wanted to pass UCLA in NCAA Championships before he left UK. What happened to that coach with a chip on his shoulder to PROVE to the world he was the man to do it too??!!!!

When he said a few years after he arrived that the UK job was like the Presidency in that it ages you quickly and that 10 years was about the longest a coach should stay here, I worried that he would leave. Now I see what he was talking about, but he has forgotten it. He has become jaded toward the portion of the fan base and media that question his moves, he's set in his ways even though he KNOWS they aren't working anymore, he LIES about injuries and player's playing status and he is contradicting all of his tired cliches that all UK fans have heard ad nauseum.

I'm not saying the national press negative "press" won't hurt too, but I do feel local means more in this case.

I think this board is a snapshot of what many off board people feel. IDK how accurate but I'm sure we all know several disgruntled and genuinely concerned fans right now. This just has a different feel to it. All of it.

I'd rather Cal retire, pay someone 5 million a year to coach and spend the other 5 million buying refs and players. lol....... oh god, we're worse than teams about to go on probation so cheating doesnt sound so bad right now

I'm with you man, I want to hear those same words, but I listened to his presser and I'm just stunned, he is nowhere close to taking the blame for anything beyond the schedule, which is already very soft.

He's not going to change a thing.

Regarding the schedule, it's beyond asinine for him to even bring it up. We lost to Richmond, a bad KU team and a horrid GT team. That schedule is not hard. We are Kentucky. Come on Cal, do better. And frankly, him mentioning it during in presser is what prompted me to start this thread. I need honest Cal not Baghdad Bob.

We did win the SEC by 3 games last year with a 2 seed. We need to let this play out a lil. It’s early. Yes we look terrible but let’s be a lil more patient.

I like that outlook. At this point it's hard to see the wins consistently. I hope it does get turned around. I just feel something different right now. We shall see.

You see a distinction between what people post on twitter and what people post on here in regards to UK basketball?

I know with Twitter, I'm seeing Bozich, Goodman, Crawford, etc - and what they are saying about the loss.

We're about to find out how much Cal can take before he blows this whole thing up. This team is going to lose a lot of games, they aren't even close to figuring this out, in fact, they looked worse today than they did Tuesday night.

If Cal gets this team to the NCAAT, I'll be fairly impressed. That's how down I am after watching the first 4 games and when I tell myself that Cal caused this and refuses to take the blame, recognize it or change it, that makes it so much worse.

Cal likes to talk about the kids hitting “rock bottom “ . I think thats what it will take to get his attention. He will have to hit “rock bottom “ to even notice things have slid . If then ! He’s going to have to have a just a horrible, terrible season. Worse than the 2013 nit season that had Noels injury for an excuse . I just think he believes he is above reproach .
