Sure can't please some no matter who we schedule. I was at Freedom Hall the night Dwight Anderson became a star. I'm sure the op is way to young to understand the quality players that used to come through there. Austin Carr, Kelly Trpuka (sp) and many other fun players to watch. UK sure could have scheduled much worse opponents.
A quality opponent from a state that produces a lot of talent and a national following. Good TV game for UK. Michigan and ND are schools that UK wants as rivals across multiple sports. Nice schedule adds.

Great addition to the schedule. I still despise ND for the stall ball game in the very early 1980’s. Cincinnati did the same thing in the same time period.
Yeah, I'd rather have [insert random team only I'm obsessed with for some reason] too, but i guess we have to make do with Notre Dame.
I like it for multiple reasons. Good name opponent. ACC school. History of playing each other before.

Was also at that game. Two ND fans were right behind me and my brother. Irish were killing the Cats in the first half, seems like the lead got to 15 or so. The one guy said 50 point win would not be enough.
Second half Dwight goes off and it got awfully quiet behind us. We rushed home after the game to watch the delayed telecast and hear Al McGuire’s “A star is born” comment.
Good times.

While Notre Dame isnt a top 10 team... they are usually a NCAAT team and good. Brey is a coach K disciple so we have a reason to hate them....

Dont like the neutral. Should have done total home and homes. He just haaaad to include a neutral site. Probably pulled for Switzerland in WW2.
You aren't a UK fan if you think this wasn't a great addition to the schedule. ND is one of the top 15 best basketball programs of all time. And Brey is a hell of a coach .
Not sure what OP is upset about. ND is a very solid addition to our schedule. History and tradition, Power 5 conference, has been a constant tournament team in modern era, beats the heck out of another cupcake team at home, etc. What is so bad about all that, OP?
It isn't a "great" addition to the schedule but, it is a good one. Much better than the directional schools and the Little Sisters of the Poor.

IMO it's about the same as adding West Virginia or Maryland to the schedule. ND falls into that same group.

I'm sure most of us would take a perennial power 5 bottom feeder over the likes of teams like Evansville. So a game with Notre Dame (or those others you mentioned) would be a step up from that and be a quality opponent. Sure it's not an elite opponent but those are harder to come by (besides with those neutral site games Cal seems to love). I'd still love to see a home and home with Duke but as long as Coach K is alive and coaching, that probably won't happen.
People complain about having Utah Valley on the schedule, saying they want some Power 5 teams instead. Now they add Notre Dame and it's not good enough either. Maybe Cal can add the Bucks and Clippers to the schedule.[eyeroll]

LOL this helps cal in indiana even more if we have the natural site in indiana, and if you don’t know indiana is a top state for basketball talent.

1. You play in a hotbed of prep talent ( Indianapolis) to showcase your program, and give the example of having a homecoming game for friends and family to prep stars in the area. (Duke/Illinois in Chicago, Duke/St.Johns in Madison Square or Seton Hall in the Meadowlands, Michigan in Detroit type matchup)
2. You avoid a small raucous on campus event for the student body to go bonkers at when you roll into town.
3. You play in a large venue in the type environment that you will in the NCAA tournament.
All positive for Kentucky to roll into Indianapolis as a clear headliner for a weekend.

a top 25-30 team. Definitely not a top 15 team. Their only final four was 78. Not that impressive.

Mike Brey is a really good coach, and Notre Dame is a solid program. This is a good OOC pickup on our schedule.
