I mean you don’t have to like it but not considering soccer a sport is silly. What, exactly, is it missing? Honest question.

Those dudes are straight athletes IMO.

I just watched 05...who is on of the top U15 soccer teams in the country...on his “off” training day, run 4 - sub 3:00 800s and 8 - sub 14 second 100s. Topping it off with a bunch of plyometric exercises.

I know this...I couldn’t do that **** when I was his age and I played every sport imaginable. His soccer coach is a training fanatic. And these kids haven’t been on the field in 2 months and may not be on the field for another 2 months.

Definitely not a “sport” though.

I would have swore this thing was going to make me rich when I was in middle school, I even kept it in the box.

Oh, so you played high school sports 44 years ago?

My bad.

Late to this specific post, but I think we’re all old enough where a certain level of respect is in order for people in their 50’s/60’s who’ve had honest hard working careers and raised families. The bashing of people like btodd and bgcatfan, guys who’ve paid their dues, is just a bad look. If you don’t like their posts, then put them on ignore. But show a little respect otherwise.

I usually agree with your posts, but can't agree with this one. Hell, the POTUS is in his 70s and is the definition of a shitposter. As is catsfanbgky, who takes an innocent GYERO jab and replies with a book report. Every. Single. Time.

Most of the Olds on this board can't take the least bit of hazing in stride (see: wildcatdonf, who had a meltdown and e-mail exchange with the mods when he won the 'Ugliest Avatar Award' some years back, or WettCatt, who got another poster fired from his job in real life because he was called out for shitposts.)

If you want respect solely due to age on this board, you can post in the D-League and get your 15 likes per post. Let us know how GhostVol is doing with the ladies.

Counterpoint: no.

If you’re expecting a layup, don’t vacation with Richie, and don’t post in GYERO. Maybe try KSR After Dark, hoss.

-so im working to expand my music "footprint". i find a modern (bbdk approved) rap/hip-hop artist i dig(RTJ)...unbeknownst to me they are collaborating with my favorite "rock guy"(Josh Homme, qotsa) for a track on their next record. The universe is weird.

Went on the boat yesterday to snipes, probably again today. Beach to finish Where The Crawdads Sing this morning, one of the best books I ever read, highly recommend. Coffee and back on the water.

Isn’t it out middle aged responsibility to call all new music “garbage” and dismiss its merits at every turn...especially in front of the younger generation?

That’s kind of how you keep them in check, right?

I’m not backing off ****!!! Soccer wasn’t a sport when I grew up and later became the poster boy for participation trophies for people like PTI that couldn’t play any other sports!!!!!
Hunted when I was younger and fished all my life but don’t consider it a sport. It’s what 90% of us did to eat back then and I still consider it a hobby.
I also don’t need a pass or give 2 fu@ks what anyone else thinks. If you don’t have thick skin then gtfo!!
Met up with several here before a game years ago at the Hyatt and later 80 Proof made reservations at Redmond’s and we got drunk on shots. Bunch of great people that I saw again in New Orleans in 2012 but they wouldn’t remember it because everyone was drunk celebrating. Haven’t had a drink since right after I first met them but would buy anyone here a drink or 30 if I ever saw them again!
Go Cats and leave soccer, frisbee golf, synchronized swimming, lacrosse, etc. to the Snowflakes were it was intended.

-these dudes are all 45+, killer. Its more that the genre is something i haven't explored since public enemy, nwa and eric b and rakim.

-i can get not enjoying watching soccer on tv. Didn't play until I was 18 in an adult league...on a team with some hs buddies a few of which played in college. Its *incredibly* fun to play and a helluva workout.

^that last sentence should be obvious, but in trying to be age/culturally inclusive in the spirit of new gyero.

Remember all of those yellow I support the troops ribbons from 2001? And then they just kind of went away and no one gave a **** about the troops anymore? That’s basically the same thing that is happening with the new heroes essential workers campaign. In 2 years no one is going to care. But it’s super woke right now so I guess that’s good?

Soccer’s biggest sins are that it doesn’t translate as well to TV as football and generations of Americans didn’t grow up with it.
