Frankly Im on the fence regarding Mintz.

Initially, I was too. However, after doing some research, I think it is a good move. He adds some much needed depth to the roster and I honestly think he will be a nice surprise for those who are skeptical. I see him contributing nicely next year.

Talk about broad and inaccurate. Julius Mays played at Wright State -- the Horizon League -- and was two inches shorter and not as athletic. And by the way, he's hardly the person I'd blame for what happened in 2013.

Davion Mintz started in the Big East for a decent team -- a league arguably better top to bottom than the SEC in basketball the past couple years. His statistics in key areas - 3-point percentage, assists to turnovers, etc. -- are better or comparable to Hagans, the starting guard on the SEC Champion team. He has no giant, glaring weakness. He's an adequate defender. He's fairly athletic. He can shoot. I've watched full games: He makes good decisions.

But leave that all aside: Here's my main point with the Richards analogy: It is demonstrably true that the people who are constantly negative on this board are WRONG MUCH MORE OFTEN than the people who are generally positive. The objective evidence of that truth: Eight teams in eleven years that were Elite Eight or better -- or in the case of this year, SEC champs, ranked in the Top Seven by AP with every chance to make a run.

it doesnt matter what conference you are in. if obi toppin had a few years left but wanted to play for uk, would you say..."but he played in the A-10?" of course not.

all i'm sayinig is that you can take a rock, throw it at the grad transfer/transfer market you will likely hit a kid like this. which isnt to say its a bad thing. you know what you are going to get. its about what role and purpose you are looking to fill.

if its to be a bench guy, play 10-15 minutes per game, hit two shots, dont hurt you....great.
if its to play 20+ minutes and be counted on to be a top 5-6 man on the team....season is going to suck. which isnt his fault...just the position the team is in

We are replacing a turnover machine and zero level scorer with a High assist low turnover player who can make layups - floaters and 3 pointers
We got better the day Hagans left this program

3 assists to 2 turnovers.

I mean yeah Hagans was a better player and Mintz was one of the worst players on Creighton...but yeah Mintz is better lol

When it comes to PGs, I want to see a guy that can get to the rim when it needs to happen. I see a shooter in those clips.

Everyone has a good highlight tape.

His numbers are BAD. And people are just flat ignoring them...

Go to the set of numbers that says "Advanced" and see that he was pretty much at the bottom of their team in every category.

Had 10/9/6 in a W against Villanova as a Sophomore when Villanova won the title (against best PG in country). Had 19/8/4 against Villanova as a Junior. Had 11/6/5 career average against Villanova. Also as Tucker pointed out his advanced stats were "very good" in some categories! Plus on top of all that I guess Cal thought he was good enough lofl!

1. I use a whole season, not a few games. Outliers deviate from the mean. He had some good traditional numbers...but the analytics and WINS/LOSSES say he really wasn't very productive for them overall and they were a better team when other players played. Not my opinion, it's what the numbers showed.

2. And it seems when you realize he isn't very good...you go to "oh I bet you're smarter than Cal aren't ya"

I'm actually happy Cal got him because it seems that's the only option he had. Cal is the best coach and I don't want anyone else. My point isn't about Cal...my point is for people trying to put lipstick on Mintz....he's just a 10-15 minute per game guy.

Cal didn't have any other real options, he got the best on the table. He also has a high upside guy in Askew coming in to play too. But Mintz is not a starter for a championship team.

Nobody is saying he is a starter man!!!!!!! He was not the worst player on Creighton like you are trying to say!!!!!!!!

Nobody is saying he's a starter...uh yeah no... there's a lot of guys saying he's a starter.

I'm not saying it ...the numbers say it...I didn't say worst....I said worst rotation player....7-8 of his teammates on an NIT team were performing better. When you play the 3rd most minutes and take a lot of shots....yeah you're going to score points more than likely.

I haven’t seen enough of him to make that determination myself but tend to agree with you from what I’ve seen. I see a 10-15 minute shooting guard rather than a PG from the highlights in another thread. Again, I want a PG that can take the ball and drive it then distribute if necessary. I’ve never been big on a PG that is mediocre at driving yet a Solid shooter. Taking it a step further, it seems he isn’t a lights out shooter either although the clips show it mostly.

I trust Calipari and company. I’m sure he has a reason for picking him up.

Looks exactly like the type of kid Cal likes to yank out after he misses one shot so he can yell at the 17 year old freshmen.
