Trump downplayed it, said it would disappear, and that the media coverage was a democratic hoax. All of those statements have been proven beyond argument to be false. This is the same mainstream media who said intelligence agencies reported Russia interfered in our elections for Trump. Our intelligence agencies confirmed this and Trump and the Fox News faithful called them liars and democratic plants. Now, you are using the same agencies to counter your point that China under reported their numbers and now you believe them. Which for the record, I believe them too just like I did then. We are social distancing, getting more folks tested, isolating more key hot spots with the hydroxychloroquinine with the zinc sulfate and arixthromycin treatment regimen looking more promising in successfully treating the disease.
3. The destruction of the economy. If you think the fallout from CV is bad, wait until you see the ramifications of 30-35% unemployment adding in an upward spike in drug addiction, alcoholism and suicides as a result of men and women losing jobs, careers, and over a third of their retirement savings. We cannot allow this shut down to extend into the summer or the ripple effect could be catastrophic from an economic collapse that would affect mostly the lower and middle classes as the top earners will have multiple assets to cover their losses.
4. Fundamental changes to our society. Church, school, sports, charities, business, recreation, travel, etc. These represent the ways that Americans find meaning and fulfillment with their families and friends. I understand that we are trying to contain an invisible enemy and keep it from spreading, but at some point, these governors, mayors and government bureaucrats will need to exercise their critical thinking and problem solving skills and quit using a “one size fits all mentality.” Yes, quarantine NYC and other epicenters where the virus is most prevalent. Those areas where folks have fewer rates of infection, let those businesses and other facilities begin opening back up and keep stressing hand washing, social distancing, etc. Stop telling citizens to report on other citizens and threatening churches and other groups with fines or jail time if they meet together outside. And please don’t start calling for nationalizing our hospitals and a universal income in response to some of the mistakes that were made in the early days of trying to deal with this virus. This is America. Freedom to assemble, to worship, to choose are fundamental rights. Don’t let the bad judgement of politicians be a clarion call for social reconstruction.

They’ve just instructed all EMS crews to stop bringing patients in cardiac arrest to the hospitals. If the medics cannot resuscitate them right when they arrive, then they are instructed to withhold CPR and immediately declare the patient dead.
As in Italy, this virus will kill more than just those people who actually catch it.

Sweden also typically has a smaller household size in terms of the number of people living in each residence as over half of Swedish homes have just one resident.
However, the # of cases and deaths in Sweden is increasing rapidly, and they have more deaths per 1 million people than the USA, ranking 9th in that metric for countries with over 100 reported deaths. It’s just that they barely have over 10 million in population for the whole country so their total numbers are small relative to much more populous countries so it doesn’t look as bad to the naked eye.

Sure, I guess it's true that it doesn't yet measure up to the 1918 H1N1 pandemic that killed over 50 million people (which, btw, serves as a great example of what happens when you don't take all these precautions that guys like you have been bitching about in recent weeks) ....or the 14th Century bubonic plague wiping out half the population of Europe.

First: Ther is no travel ban to China from the US. The US has placed restrictions with multiple loopholes, which also weren't put into effect until Feb 4th. However, Italy did implement a travel ban to and from China in January and it has not helped at all as they currently lead the world in mortalities. How was it a hoax if it proved to be correct? I seem to recall the president saying at 15 comfirmed cases, we would be at 0 in no time and this was going to be minimal impact in the US. That sounds far more like a hoax to me considering we currently have more cases than the 2nd and 3rd ranked countries combined and are 3rd in the death rate. And that same guy claiming the democrats were making this a hoax, is now having to publicly say we will be doing will if we only lose 100,000 but even admits it is likely to be 240,000+ lost. You do realize the US does not have a travel ban to and from China, right? They restricted it in some cases, but many loopholes still exist. And that was put in place Feb4th, not January, which is just when it was recommended. Now China does have a travel ban of anyone coming into their country, but that wasn't a US policy.
Also, Italy did implement a travel ban with China in January and they now lead globally in corona virus related deaths. But don't worry, we will catch them very soon and be 1st in global deaths related to it.

Italy is being extremely generous with their Covid death numbers, other countries with low death rates are only counting those that died from actual Covid related illness as Covid deaths. Germany and South Korea
NYC is following the Italy standard, if you die and test positive it falls under a Covid death.

Actually, in the US we are seeing much higher numbers among younger people being impacted seriously by this disease. IIRC, we have the highest number of fatalities among younger age groups than any other country at this point.
H1N1 killed that many over a roughly 13 month period. We are now losing over 1000 a day just in the US alone from Covid 19. We will be over 6000 deaths total today, and we only had 1 death this time last month. Trump is even openly admitting we will have "done great" if we only lose 100,000, but he expects it could top 240,000 thousand. This is going to rival some wars for total casualties.
