Not sure if this was addressed yet, but what in the 17 was that weird spectacle that Rice's band put on? I have seen them perform at games against Univ. of Tulsa, but that was the weirdest crap I ever saw.

It just screamed "geek"

what? you didn't like fat chick elvis? or anubis and the ground tarp pyramid?

maybe inside jokes shouldn't be allowed to be the halftime presentation.

My first thought was whether or not their halftime show was directed by the old lady from Paps Place.

The guy behind me at the game remarked after the halftime performance, "looks like Famous Maroon Band won the halftime performance for the first time this year"

The M.O.B. Is very similar to Stanford's band. Most people don't get it. But those über liberal institutions go ape **** for that kind of hipster ****.

So you mean Ole Miss' excellent rendition of every high school in America's show (Led Zepplin... come on... I played "Kashmir" in HS) beat out the FMB? I know it's fun to rag on the band... but I really enjoyed listening to "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Gladiator." (no **)

When it started with saying that God was not pleased with the Earth until he made bands, the older lady beside me almost had a stroke. She actually booed and used the term "blasphemous."

I liked it, but they need more members to put out more sound.

And I couldn't hear the violins or cellos at all, but it was kinda cool to be marching around with those.

I liked the guy who was marching holding nothing at all.

I particularly liked the Game of Thrones theme being played instead of O Fortuna, like every other SEC band except Bama. Bama plays Phantom of the Opera and it sounds good.

I have no complaints of our band this year.

So weird. I didn't know the Pyramid was being turned into a Bass Pro until after the game, so that explained some of it to me.

I went to Rice's homecoming game one year, against Texas A&M...

First the MOB made fun of the Aggie military style marching. Then they introduced their homecoming court: They elected some 13 year old Doogie Howser type guy as Homecoming King, and elected a car as Queen. They even drove the car out on the field.

The band was kind of drowned out by a guy playing bass guitar with a seriously kickass amp.

They were quite entertaining, though.

My biggest criticism of the band is that they can work harder to create a distinct identity with the fans. If the band can do a better job of winning the fanbase over, people will realize the band is far better than they are given credit for. Right now, it's the band just has the identity of "being there..." they play "Go State, Hail State," and some cheers, and play some music for a halftime show (even though I personally enjoy a good bit of the music they play... the Hans Zimmer show was REALLY good this year). LSU and bama have marketed their bands better than we have.

One of the things other bands do is play the same cheer for first, second, and third down... and not just "Go, Go" or some other song a jr. high band does, but something unique, engaging, and fun. "Go State" is a great first down cheer, for instance... right now, the band just plays whatever is next on the set list of about 10 defensive or offensive cheers.

If true, that reinforces my opinion of liberals - because it was awful. Our group must have missed the announcement that it was Rice's band because we all assumed that it was a high school band until about halfway through it. I get that their band is small because the school is so small, but as someone next to me stated - it looked low rent. What the hell was up with the Pyramid? They couldn't drop another couple hundred $ to not make it look like one of those PVC constructed trash bag holders that we use at the river during the summer?
