People pay out civil claims *all the time* for things they don’t believe they did. Especially companies and millionaires that have the resources to do so. Just from an economic/business perspective, it makes perfect sense to settle a case for $100,000 and avoid the risk of a crazy jury awarding 10 million. You can’t start throwing out what makes sense from a logical perspective if you don’t recognize this.

Well, I’m a civil litigation lawyer, so you could say I’ve been through a couple myself. Saying that Kobe paid her to dismiss the criminal case is just you guessing. And it’s not accurate to say that she was truthful about her claim. She admitted that she lied.
What's easy and can make people "go away" doesn't make a company innocent or mean that they don't think they did nothing wrong. They do so because they know most people will go away with a big chunk of money. Or they know they don't have to give money because they'll just "bury" people with their resources.
She didn't admit she lied about the rape. She admitted she lied about why she was late for work and where she cleaned her face.

Um lying and saying that Kobe forced her to wash her face is a pretty massive detail to lie about. By that measure, Kobe never “lied about the rape” either. He lied about having consensual sex with her.

she lied about Bryant forcing her to clean up her face before allowing her to leave. One of her claims was false imprisonment. Lying about the circumstances under which a person permitted you to leave a confined area is a pretty major deal. The fact that Bryant also lied doesn’t change the fact she too lied.
I'm done talking about this. A rich man got away with rape. He cheated on his wife multiple times. Yet, he wouldn't lie about rape? Yet he denied the sex until he knew they knew he had sex. He paid out money. Wondered what he could do to make it all go away. Wrote an apology. Money, power, and fame rule the day. She was a 19-yr old who had some issues. Easy to brush her to the side so the reality of what Kobe Bryant was at that time can be ignored.

When asked by police how she knew Bryant had heard her, she replied, “Because every time I said no he tightened his hold around me.”

Yes, but in men it takes away the main "instrument" they use. Obviosuly there would be ways around that, but if they are already in prison for life after the first time it happens there won't be a second. Sort of like an extra punishment.

The idea that those with money are freed from consequences of crime is not incorrect. But confirmation bias doesn’t validate opinion one way or the other. Civil Cases are not direct indictments of wrong doing. Those unfamiliar with the law just need to get that out of their head.
Kobe may have been fully at fault. He may not have been. I will never know the answer. I’m at peace with that idea seeing him be a good father and an amazing basketball player being what I remember of him, and being of what directs my memories of him. Others may not be able to get over the potentially sinister possibilities. Neither opinion is truly invalid because none of us truly know. Full. Effing. Stop.

I don’t think it’s obvious one way or the other. She apparently had mental health issues, she admitted she lied about Kobe forcing her to wash her face, a witness who saw her afterwards said she didn’t look like anything was wrong, she showed up to her exam and they found a different person’s evidence in her panties. Now there’s plenty of evidence on the other side to point towards guilt. I think he’s mostly likely guilty, but I don’t see it being obvious either way.
